There’s an old joke about a doctor giving an elderly patient some good news and bad news. "Give me the bad news first," the old guy says. "OK, you’ve got cancer and you’re dying. Best case, you have a few years left." "Oh god, that’s awful," cries the old man. "What’s the good news?" "Well," says the doctor, "You’re in the best shape of your life, and your dementia means you won’t remember any of this in a few hours." And that is, essentially, the Windows laptop renaissance.

Earlier this year in February, it was reported that a programmer who prefers to be known as “bigmuscle” announced that he came up with the first version of a program that is called Aero Glass for Win8. Seasoned Windows users would know where this particular program is headed – the name itself implies that Windows 8 looks set to receive the cool aero glass transparent look, which was removed in the latest iteration of Windows despite being a popular desktop option in Windows Vista and Windows 7. We are glad to report that version 1.0 of Aero Glass for Win8 has been released, and this particular program will play nice after being integrated with the Desktop Window Manager in Windows 8.
According to the program’s site, “All rendering is done via native Direct3D device. Any colorization settings adjusted in Windows Control Panels are respected. Use color intensity slider to adjust the amount of the transparency. No custom skinning engine used.”
Aero Glass for Win8 is said to work without consuming too many system resources, allowing users to change their window borders without having to change their Windows theme, and it will comprise of a bevy of effects such as “window shadow, caption glow effect, rounded borders or simply change the appearance of caption buttons.”

Despite Microsoft’s claims that the Surface family of tablets was a representation of “no compromise,” many road warriors have found the battery life to be… well, compromised. In order to address said concerns, it’s looking as if Microsoft will be launching a line of Power Covers. In a nutshell, these battery-inclusive Type Covers will snap onto Surface tablets as the existing ones do now, but a bump in thickness (from 0.21-inches to 0.38-inches) will add “significant” life. Interestingly, WinSupersite is reporting that the covers won’t ship until after the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, and the original Surface RT won’t be compatible. Oh, and as for pricing? Mum’s the word, as you might expect for an unconfirmed accessory.
