Windows 8 Finally Surpasses OS X’s Market Share

Windows 8 Finally Surpasses OS Xs Market ShareWhile the Windows platform in general is obviously a more popular operating system than Apple’s OS X and other platforms, the numbers might vary when looking at individual versions, such as Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 8, and etc. Well the good news for Microsoft is that while Windows 8 might not have taken off the way that the company had envisioned, unlike Windows XP and Windows 7 which were both hits, the operating system has finally managed to surpass the overall installation base for Apple’s OS X operating system.

This is according to the latest figures from Net Applications that shows Windows 8 commanding 7.41% market share which is slightly above the overall OS X install base which sits at around 7.3%. One of the reasons Windows 8 has been slow in growth is possibly due to the major changes that Microsoft introduced that resulted in many users feeling frustrated and confused at the start. Microsoft is hoping to change that with the upcoming Windows 8.1 update that will bring back some old features, like the Start button for example, amongst other things.
