Just yesterday we reported that the VLC team had announced that the app for Windows 8 was still in the process of being certified. Well the good news is that if you’re a Windows 8 user looking for an optimized version of VLC for your computer, you might be pleased to learn that the app has since been certified and is now available for download via the Windows Store.
Naturally the app itself is a free download just like other versions of VLC in the past, with the main difference is that it will be optimized for the Windows 8 platform. However the team at VLC are calling it a beta and have reminded users as such, so don’t be surprised if you encounter any bugs or whatnot during your use of the device.
The app will support the same codecs as VLC for the desktop, so rest assured that most, if not all your media should be playable. This includes audio files such as MKV, Ogg, Move, FLAC, and MPC. There is also support for embedded subtitles, background audio playback, and more. (more…)
