Nokia Teases Windows Phone Announcement

Does Nokia have a new device in the works that has yet to be announced? At the moment we can only think of two devices that the Finnish company has yet to reveal: the Nokia Normandy and the Nokia Lumia Icon which is a Windows Phone handset destined for Verizon. While it looks like Nokia could be making the announcement soon thanks to a new teaser trailer that Nokia recently uploaded onto YouTube. The clip itself is relatively short and is about 15 seconds long. All the video contains is a sound of a car engine revving and the words, “Have you heard what’s coming?” and “See and hear what you’ve been missing.”

Of course the video could be talking about the Nokia Normandy, which is allegedly Nokia’s take on Android, but at the end of the video, a Windows Phone logo pops up which would then eliminate that possibility. The Lumia Icon, for those unfamiliar, is essentially a smaller version of the Lumia 1520. The device will share most of the Lumia 1520’s hardware specs, but instead of a giant 6-inch display, the Lumia Icon will pack a smaller and more manageable 5-inch display. The handset has been leaked multiple times and has even gone on sale in China, so we’re guessing an official reveal should be coming soon.

No New Flickr App For Windows Phone Anytime Soon

No New Flickr App For Windows Phone Anytime SoonBack in the day of Windows Phone 7, Yahoo released a Flickr app for the platform but has not bothered to update the app since. Heck, even the design of the Windows Phone button on the Flickr website is that of the old one, and given that we’re approaching the release of Windows Phone 8.1, will Yahoo ever come around to updating its app for the Windows Phone platform? Sadly it appears that the answer is no, at least not anytime soon. This is according to a post by a Yahoo product support admin who responded to a question posed by a user back in 2013 (yes it took them that long to respond).

According to the admin, he replied by saying, “At this point, we are focusing our mobile development efforts on iPhone and Android apps. If this changes, we’ll let you know in the forum here.” Flickr was one of the more popular websites for sharing and hosting photos for websites back in the day. However with social media growing faster than ever, websites such as Facebook and Instagram started to overshadow it, which might explain why Yahoo might not see the app as a priority at the moment. In any case there are probably a handful of third-party alternatives if you really want to use Flickr, such as 2flicka and Flickr Central just to name a few.

Flappy Bird Lookalikes Arrive On Windows Phone

Flappy Bird Lookalikes Arrive On Windows PhoneLike it or not, it seems that anything that is popular online these days is going to get cloned. I suppose you could call cloned apps or games a “meme” of sorts of the original, don’t you think so? That would certainly take away some of the negative connotations of a clone or copycat of an idea, since everyone loves memes. Having said that, Flappy Bird, a hugely successful app that took three days to code and is now pulling in approximately $50,000 a day in ad revenue for the developer, has arrived on Windows Phone in the form of a clone – alongside an entire flock of lookalike games such as Birdy Flap, Paddle Fish, FlappyFish, and Jolly Fish. Of course, this is also a Flappy Bird clone that made an appearance as mentioned earlier, which is well ahead of the original game’s version by about a week or so.

Flappy Bird Clone Flaps Its Way Onto Windows Phone

Flappy Bird Clone Flaps Its Way Onto Windows PhoneFlappy Bird is one of those games that no one really expected to take off the way it did, but somehow proved itself to be quite a major hit. Last we heard, the app, despite accused of using stolen graphics, was pulling in about $50,000 a day from ad revenue alone. It is apparently lucrative enough for a clone to be created for the Windows Phone platform where the game has yet to be launched. As you can see in the screenshots above, the clone of the game is literally a copy and paste job as the graphics and gameplay have been copied from the original game.

Then again like we said, Flappy Bird has been accused of copying graphics from older games, so we’re not sure if the original developer really has the right to be mad about that. The app could eventually be taken down at the original developer’s request, but in the meantime for those interested in seeing if the clone is just as good as the original, you can get your hands on the game via the Windows Phone Store. For those who would rather play the original, you can rest assured that it will be making its way onto the Windows Phone platform in the next week or so. In the meantime has anyone figured out what the fuss is over that game?

Samsung SM-W750V Might Feature 720p Display, Not 1080p

Samsung SM W750V Might Feature 720p Display, Not 1080pWord on the street has it that Samsung has a new Windows Phone in the works called the “Huron”, also known by its model number SM-W750V. We recently saw the device in a leaked photo and while it had originally been speculated that the handset would feature a Full HD 1080p display, newly leaked benchmark results have suggested that it would be come with a 720p HD display instead. This is according to the benchmark results from GFXBench where it revealed that the Samsung SM-W750V would come with a 1280×720 resolution, instead of 1920×1080.

However it seems that there is also some dispute between the actual size of the display. Some are claiming the handset will sport a 4.3-inch display, while others claim that it will come with a 5-inch display. While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a 720p HD display, the fact of the matter is that Full HD is more or less the standard these days and we’re sure that customers would much prefer a higher resolution. However if Samsung’s goal is to create a budget and affordable Windows Phone handset, taking the 720p HD route would make sense. In any case hopefully we will hear more about the Samsung SM-W750V soon, so until then take it with a grain of salt, but are any of our readers out there disappointed by the 720p HD display?

Samsung SM-W750V Windows Phone Gets Pictured

Samsung SM W750V Windows Phone Gets PicturedAccording to our earlier report, Samsung is apparently getting ready to launch a new Windows Phone handset with the model number SM-W750V. The handset is also said to be making its way onto Verizon’s network. If there’s one con of Samsung’s Windows Phone devices is that they tend not to look particularly exciting, at least compared to Nokia’s offerings where they are offered in bright and bold colors and feature interesting designs, which is why the description of the SM-W750V was interesting as it was claimed that it would resemble one of Samsung’s Galaxy S Android devices.

Well thanks to a recent post by @evleaks (who was also the original poster of the initial rumor), a photo of the SM-W750V has made its way online. Upon first glance the handset really looks like one of Samsung’s Galaxy S handsets, sort of an in-between the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy S4. If it wasn’t for the Windows logo on the home button, we would have mistaken it for an unannounced Samsung Android device. Of course there’s no telling if this rendering is the real deal, but @evleaks has been pretty consistent so we wouldn’t be surprised if this turned out to be true. Not much is known about the Samsung Windows Phone handset at the moment, apart from its design, but hopefully we will learn more about the handset in the near future.
