Instagram Not Arriving On Windows Phone Anytime Soon, Says Nokia Executive

Instagram Not Arriving On Windows Phone Anytime Soon, Says Nokia ExecutiveRemember how we covered a story sometime last week about Instagram arriving on the Windows Phone platform soon? Well, apparently that is not going to happen, as said Nokia executive, Chris Weber, has shared over his Twitter channel, “Seems my comments on Instagram have been misreported. We are still working hard to make it happen, but nothing new to announce. Sorry.”

Well, that’s that then – with nothing new to announce, that would mean Windows Phone users will just have to wait for quite some time more with absolutely nothing guaranteed to happen. I guess if you still want to harness the full power of Instagram on your device, then it would be best to take the iOS or Android route, and reserve your Windows Phone device for some other purposes. Is using Instagram a make or break app for you that would influence your choice of smartphone operating system, or does it not matter to you simply because you do not want to add to the numerous “food porn” and selfie shots that have long flooded the Internet for the past few years? Which particular app do you think you would consider as “indispensable” on a smartphone, one that you cannot live without?

Alleged Windows Phone GDR3 “Bittersweet Shimmer” Screenshot Leaked

Alleged Windows Phone GDR3 Bittersweet Shimmer Screenshot LeakedYesterday we reported on a rumor that Microsoft was testing the next build of Windows Phone, Windows Phone 8.1 which has also been referred to as the GDR3 update. Well according to the folks at Nokia Power User, they claim to have received a screenshot from one of their sources which supposedly shows us the settings menu of the GDR3 update as pictured above. So what’s with the weird “Lumia Bittersweet Shimmer” name? Well that’s apparently the codename for the next Windows Phone update and is also one of the colors used to describe one of Crayola’s crayons.

Given that the previous Windows Phone 8 update was codenamed “Amber”, we guess it looks like Microsoft could be moving alphabetically in naming their future updates. In any case the screenshot really doesn’t tell us much although it does reveal some of the features we might be able to expect. Then again this is hardly the most official screenshot we’ve seen and anyone with  experience in Microsoft Paint could easily put something similar out, so do take it with a grain of salt for now. At the same time we wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft was indeed working on and testing the next Windows Phone update, but as to whether this screenshot is a part of it remains a little sketchy.

The Times Newspaper Getting Official Windows Phone 8 App

The Times Newspaper Getting Official Windows Phone 8 AppJust how do you know that your mobile platform has made it big time? For starters, many developers would want to jump aboard the bandwagon and are willing to work on apps for your mobile operating system. Apart from that, when big companies come up with apps of their own, that will work just fine, too. For instance, The Times newspaper from UK has revealed that they are currently working on an app which will be specially written for the Windows Phone 8 platform. Of course, one ought to take into consideration that The Times did have an official app for older versions of Windows Phone, but said app was subsequently removed and could not be downloaded anymore.

We are more than glad to hear this bit about The Times newspaper making a reappearance on the Windows Phone 8 platform with its own app, but unfortunately, we have come up short on an official release date or estimated time of arrival, and hope that other publications, too, might want to offer a similar kind of support for the Windows Phone 8 platform. Which particular publication that does not yet have an official app on Windows Phone 8 that you would like to see the most? Would it be a sports daily or a business pullout?

New Windows Phone Ad Highlights The Lumia 1020′s Camera Abilities

When it comes to advertising their products, Microsoft has never been shy in comparing themselves against the competition, highlighting some of the disadvantages and flaws of their competitors’ products. Well a new advertisement has been released Microsoft where they basically show off the Nokia Lumia 1020’s camera abilities. Of course the “enemies” of the ad are the iOS and Android users where they are busy fighting with each other trying to capture the best photo, and there are even a couple of people in the audiences using the iPad to snap photos which is something of a faux pas.

In the meantime while everyone is busy jostling and stepping over each other trying to get the best photo possible, a couple is seated at the back with their Lumia 1020 that unsurprisingly has managed to capture a crisp and sharp image even from so far behind. In any case even if you don’t believe that the Lumia 1020 has the ability to snap better photos than the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S4, it still makes for a pretty hilarious ad nonetheless. If you have a minute to spare, you can check out the ad in the video above.

Windows Phone 8.1 Reportedly In Testing

Windows Phone 8.1 Reportedly In TestingWe’re sure many are wondering what the next major update to Windows Phone might be. Could we be looking at Windows Phone 9, perhaps? Well maybe not, at least not according to a record spotted in a server log. This sighting was discovered by a Chinese developer who found a device running on Windows Phone OS version 8.10.12166 that has downloaded his app. Given that the latest version of Windows Phone at the moment is 8.0.10328, it is speculated that perhaps this build we are looking at is Windows Phone 8.1.

It is also expected that Windows Phone 8.1 will be the next major update to the Windows Phone operating system although exactly what sort of changes and features that will be part of this update remains to be seen, although some are speculating that a Notification Center-like feature could make its way into the update. No word on when exactly Windows Phone 8.1 will be rolled out either, but given that the Windows Phone GDR2 update has yet to be fully rolled out around the world, there is a good chance that Windows Phone 8.1 will most likely see a 2014 release, which has also been previously suggested by early rumors, possibly during MWC 2014.

Nokia Executive Claims Instagram Will Arrive On Windows Phone Soon

Nokia Executive Claims Instagram Will Arrive On Windows Phone SoonInstagram has not yet made an official app appearance over on the Windows Phone platform, and lately, you could say that Instagram have gotten rather paranoid, where they are going to lay the smack down on apps that use “Insta” or “Gram” in their names. I suppose you can read about their reasons for doing so, but on to happier news this time around. Nokia executive VP Chris Weber, in his recent visit to Thailand where he reiterated the Finnish smartphone manufacturer’s goal to overtake Samsung as the global leader in mobile phone market share, also did mention that the Windows Phone Store would be welcoming the Instagram app in due time.

I would say that this has been a long time in coming, since Instagram’s absence on the Windows Phone platform has led to a bunch of third party substitutes released, where most of them are unable to upload images to Instagram after Instagram decided to prevent direct third party uploads to its site. Well, do you think that Instagram on Windows Phone will help Nokia achieve this lofty goal of theirs, that is to overtake Samsung when they are at the top of their game? Only time will tell.

HTC 8X On Receiving End Of New Update, Fixes GDR2 Lag Issues

HTC 8X On Receiving End Of New Update, Fixes GDR2 Lag IssuesSometimes, being the first out of the blocks does not necessarily mean it is the best. After all, the hare did lose to the tortoise in the race, didn’t he? The HTC 8X was the first Windows Phone 8 device to pick up the GDR2 update, but it was a moment to forget since some of the HTC 8X owners actually reported that their smartphones started to lock up and end up as completely unresponsive once the update had been installed.

This particular freeze bug is said to be related to the music playing process in the handset itself. This particular process had turned some HTC 8X phones unusable whenever music is played, while other devices ended up as paperweights. For those who did not fall under this “curse” realized that the device itself became very slow, and as to how widespread these issues are, it has yet to be determined. One thing we do know is, there are folks affected in Poland and Australia, but those folks have been “set free” from the GDR2 update issues after picking up a new firmware update from HTC.

Well, we do hope that HTC will be able to roll out a similar update to other markets that carry the HTC 8X, the sooner, the better.
