Nokia Icon Review

The Nokia Icon is a new step in Nokia’s Industrial design, and a new push in terms of high-performance on the Windows Phone platform. As Nokia continues to dominate the Windows Phone landscape, the fight with Android and iPhone handsets remains extremely challenging and competitive. To even the odds, the Nokia Icon offers what no other Windows Phone had before: the same firepower and horsepower than high-end Android devices, in a 5” form-factor.
Although Windows Phone is the only OS to run very fast on low-end hardware, users have been somewhat frustrated with the hardware lag between Windows Phone and other platforms handsets. With the Icon, Nokia says “no more”, and on paper, it looks very sweet with a Snapdragon 800 and a 20 Megapixel high-end camera module. Is it as good as it looks? Read on… (more…)

We’re just days away from Microsoft’s BUILD 2014 conference and there’s a lot of anticipation and excitement about the announcements that are expected. Nokia has also scheduled a press event on the sidelines of BUILD 2014 where it may unveil new Lumia smartphones. Microsoft is expected to talk in detail about Windows Phone 8.1, its next major update for the mobile platform. A new report claims that the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview release has been scheduled for April 10th.

It has been quite a while since Samsung has launched a new Windows Phone device. There have been countless rumors over the last few months that Samsung is working on one such device. While the company hasn’t officially confirmed anything as yet, we’ve already seen several leaked images of the Samsung ATIV SE, its new WP device. Initial rumors suggested that the smartphone would be one of the first few to come with Windows Phone 8.1 pre-installed. That might not be the case.

At the end of last week, we brought you word that half a dozen fake Google apps had arrived on the Windows Phone Store, which certainly brought about a fair amount of attention to those who have an interest in this particular subject matter. What was Microsoft going to do about the situation? Why, the answer is pretty simple – Microsoft decided to remove the six fake Google apps from the Windows Phone Store, where those questionable apps included “Hangouts,” “Google Voice,” “Google Search,” “Google+,” “Google Maps,” and “Gmail – email from Google.”

BBM For Windows Phone Coming In Q2

Last year BlackBerry finally opened up BlackBerry Messenger to other platforms. For now it is only available as a standalone app for iOS and Android. Since it went cross-platform, BBM has added millions of new users, a decent growth on which the company plans to cash in. The company now has set its sights on Windows Phone, Microsoft’s mobile platform, which has outdone it in several markets. BlackBerry CEO John Chen has confirmed that BBM for Windows Phone will be released in the second quarter of this fiscal year.

Heads up Windows Phone users, it looks like you guys will have to keep an eye on what you’re downloading in the Windows Phone store because according to reports, it seems that there has been a recent flood of fake Google apps making their way onto the Windows Phone.
The report claims that a developer has managed to register himself with the Windows Phone Store under the “Google Inc.” moniker and has since uploaded a bunch of fake Google apps like the ones you can see in the image above. (more…)

Windows Phone users would not have been too thrilled in recent memory as Google does not seem to want to allocate resources to develop apps for the mobile operating system simply for the fact that the number of users as opposed to Android and iOS platforms are tiny in comparison. Well, a leopard might not be able to change its spots, but a company can change its policy. It seems that Google might introduce Chrome to Windows Phone eventually.
