Xbox 360 Tops NPD October Figures Before Next-Generation Era Of Consoles Kick Off

Xbox 360 Tops NPD October Figures Before Next Generation Era Of Consoles Kick OffThere is always no better way to go off than when you are at the top. Athletes who retire when they are at the top of their game often leave behind a legacy that is difficult to surmount, as watching a maestro slide in decline can be painful at times. Of course, there is the flip side to it – what if the athlete had remained around for a little longer, would more records have been broken? Whatever the case is, next generation consoles in the form of the Xbox One and Sony PS4 are upon us this week and the next, which would mean that this week is the very last week where NPD’s charts in terms of hardware sales for video game consoles would feature the current generation models without mixing it up.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 remains at the top as the best-selling home console for the month of October, which does not come across as surprising since Microsoft has held the fort for years in the US, rarely losing out to the PS3 once in a while. Well, it is always nice to go out with a bang, right? Don’t worry folks, the Xbox 360 will still be on future charts at least for some time to come before the console is retired.

Xbox Live Gold Members To Receive Games For Free On Xbox One Next Year

We have brought you word that Microsoft’s “Games with Gold” program for Xbox 360 owners will now be extended to include the Xbox One, although this will happen only sometime next year. Larry Hryb’s Twitter feed made this particular announcement, where the Xbox Live director of programming mentioned, “Great news: Access to free games each month is coming for Xbox Live Gold members on #XboxOne – Details coming later in 2014.”

Apart from that, Hryb did not reveal any more details on just how the inner machinations of the Xbox One version would be, although we are quite sure that additional information will be shared sometime later next year. Here is a little bit of background information – Microsoft began the “Games for Gold” program for Xbox 360 owners in the summer of 2013, where paid Xbox Live Gold subscribers were able to gain access to a couple of selected downloadable games – without having to fork out a single cent. Yes sir, this means you can download two games for nothing for approximately 2 weeks before it returns to a paid game status.

Microsoft’s $10,000 Digital Home Makeover Contest

This article was written on April 04, 2008 by CyberNet.

media center extender contest If you’ve got a video recording device and two minutes to spare, you could end up with a $10,000 Digital Home Makeover, courtesy of Microsoft. They started a contest  to help celebrate the availability of several new Extenders for Windows Media Center. There are thousands of people out there with all kinds of digital media on multiple devices that don’t interact with one another (many of you can probably relate) who could benefit from such a makeover. Microsoft thinks all digital media should be shared across devices and so one lucky winner will receive a Windows Media Center PC along with Extenders to create a “connected entertainment center.”

How to enter: Create a two-minute video explaining why you need the experts to come to your house and set you up with an entertainment system. What do you do with your media currently, and what do you wish that you could do?

What they’re looking for in a video: Enthusiasm, show your current system, and give a story that will appeal to other digital home entertainment users. Contestants must upload their video to video.msn.com.

When the contest starts/ends: The contest started on March 21st, 2008 and runs until May 2, 2008, so you’ve got plenty of time to come up with something good.

At this point, we say that the Xbox 360 is still one of the best Media Center Extenders out there for the price, even though there is a whole selection of extenders available. One such extender (on the high-end) is the Niveus Media Extender which retails for a whopping $1,499! On the lower end is the Linksys DMA 2200 Media Center Extender which retails for around $300.

Unfortunately this contest is available only to those living in the United States. Oh, and don’t expect Microsoft to come in and remodel your home if you’re the winner. While reading the rules of the contest, I noticed the following statement: This prize does not include remodeling or redecorating the winner’s home to accommodate any new equipment awarded. It’s humorous the kinds of statements companies have to put into the rules of contests to protect themselves from lawsuits, isn’t it?

Xbox 360 With Red Ring Of Death Gets Blown Up Using C4

In the past we’ve seen RatedRR on YouTube shoot at a bunch of gadgets, perform drop tests, and basically do all sorts of mindless destruction which we have to admit is pretty entertaining, albeit wasteful. Well it seems that they had a ton of Xbox 360 units leftover with the red ring of death, essentially rendering the console useless, so what did they do? Well they strapped C4 explosives to the console and recorded the entire proceedings in slow-motion, letting us enjoy the wonderful spectacle of seeing the previous-generation console go out in a blaze of glory, almost as if it were welcoming the new-generation with aplomb.

In fact the last explosion was done where the explosion formed the shape of an X, which is rather appropriate give that this is the Xbox after all! In any case we’ll try not to spoil the rest of the video for you, but if you’re into mindless destruction and wished you had his access to explosives to vent your frustration on your ruined Xbox 360, be sure to check it out in the video above.

Who would actually buy Microsoft’s Xbox division?

Last week, a report surfaced suggesting that Stephen Elop, the man who many believe will take over for Steve Ballmer as Microsoft’s next chief executive, would consider selling off the software giant’s Xbox division to focus its efforts on Office and other key platforms that tend to make it more money. The announcement was a […]

Titanfall Completely Exclusive To Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC; Sequel May Not Be

Titanfall Completely Exclusive To Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC; Sequel May Not Be

One of the most highly anticipated games of the next-generation of consoles has to be Titanfall. The shooter will be exclusive to Microsoft platforms as it’s expected to be released March 2014 on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC machines, which means future owners of the PlayStation 4 will unfortunately be missing out on the game. Although you shouldn’t completely count a Titalfall game making its way to other platforms out of the realm of possibility. (more…)
