MTV Launches Video Streaming App For Xbox 360

MTV Launches Video Streaming App For Xbox 360

MTV today launched its video streaming app for the Xbox 360, allowing users of the console to stream its exclusive TV shows. An Xbox Live Gold subscription will be required in order to watch these shows through MTV’s app, and to get the most recent episodes of the shows, users will also need to be subscribed to a participating pay-TV partner.

There’s another caveat attached to the app. The five latest episodes of current MTV shows will only be available for those Xbox 360 users that are subscribed to any of Viacom’s “TV Everywhere” partners. DirecTV, Verizon FiOS, AT&T U-verse, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, Suddenlink, RCN, Hawaiian Telecom and Bright House Networks make up that list. Having this restriction in place means that majority of the Xbox 360 owners won’t actually be able to access the latest content unless they subscribe to one of Viacom’s pay-TV partner. Apart from letting users streaming new and old shows whenever they want, the app will also provide additional content such as clips from MTV Video Music Awards, web originals from MTV Other as well as clips from MTV News. The app can be navigated either through the console’s controller or through hand gestures if Kinect is attached to the console.

No Cross-Chat Between Xbox One And Xbox 360 Consoles

No Cross Chat Between Xbox One And Xbox 360 ConsolesWe’re sure that there are some gamers who will be getting their hands on the new Microsoft Xbox One console, but at the same time there will also be gamers who might be holding off and keeping their Xbox 360, at least until reviews are out, prices have dropped, and when more games are available, but if you were hoping to be able to voice chat with your Xbox One buddies via the Xbox 360 console, you’d be out of luck. According to Major Nelson, he revealed that Xbox One owners will not be able to voice chat with Xbox 360 owners. While he was not able to provide a concrete reasoning, he revealed that after checking with Microsoft, he found that due to a new wide bandwidth CODEC, both consoles will not be chat compatible. We guess some gamers might have already expected this, but it’s still good to have some form of confirmation. We also expect some gamers will be disappointed by this piece of news as well. So, was anyone looking forward to cross-game chat compatibility between the Xbox One and Xbox 360?

BioShock Infinite DLC Clash in the Clouds appears today, ready for battle

The first of two downloadable expansions for the game BioShock Infinite has been unveiled today for download. This download goes by the name Clash in the Clouds and is what the creators of this game call an “action-focused” expansion, it also arriving as the smaller of the two expansions that’ve been planned for this title. This game’s developers at Irrational Games have also announced the second expansion: Burial at Sea.

    infinita

This first expansion builds on the action-oriented angles in the game whose original chapter was released all the way back in 2007. With BioShock Infinite, users were asked to join a futuristic (yet retro) steampunk-like adventure complete with gadgets & and gizmos, monsters, and magic. And lots of fantasy landscapes and environments to explore.

This upgrade for the game appears for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC today, coming in at $5 USD. Clash in the Clouds brings new abilities – mostly magic – and you back down to Rapture, starting in on “the eve of the underwater city’s fall from grace.”

Explore the city when it was at the height of its beauty, meet some old “friends,” and make some new ones, all through the eyes of Booker DeWitt. Why are Booker and Elizabeth in Rapture? What was the city like before everything fell to pieces? The answers to these questions and more will be found in BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea — Episode 1.

This expansion was build “almost entirely from scratch” using the BioShock Infinite engine and modifies the gameplay format from the base game. This modification tweaks the combat experience to be a mix between the original BioShock and the newer BioShock Infinite – the best of both worlds.

What’s the oldest piece of technology you still use every day?

In a world that is changing so rapidly, we tend to think of a gadget as “old” after a year or so when something better comes along. It’s a rare occurrence when you see someone still using an HTC DROID Incredible (my first-ever smartphone) or a laptop from the Windows XP days, but it got me thinking about how many people out there still use old technology on a daily basis. While you could technically count a microwave (for which my parents still have the same one after 20 years), my focus is aimed at consumer electronics, like phones, laptops, TVs, speakers, etc.

Upgrade cycles vary greatly depending on what the product is. Smartphones arguably have the quickest upgrade cycle, with new phones coming out all the time, and while phone contracts keep users on a two-year cycle, it’s becoming more and more popular to upgrade a smartphone every year or even every few months, thanks to off-contract phone plans. Honestly, it’s to the point where people scratch their heads when they see someone still using an iPhone 3GS — a piece of gadgetry that’s only four years old.

Larger items usually have a longer ownership life, though, and things like laptops, televisions, and game consoles can easily last a few years without seeming out of date or “old.” Heck, the Xbox 360 will be turning eight years old in November and it’s still chugging along nicely, with millions of gamers still using it on a daily basis.

But your Xbox 360 surely can’t be the oldest consumer electronics device that you use every day. Maybe you have an old turntable that you still use to play all of your vinyl records on? Perhaps you still use the same landline phone from the 90s?

    xbox-360-controller

For me, the oldest piece of technology that I still use on a daily basis is probably an RCA speaker system that I bought with my own cold-hard cash when I was in junior high about 10 years ago. It obviously served as the main portal for playing all my CDs and turning the volume up to 11 because I was a rebel and all. However, it now serves as the speaker system to my home theater, and it still works great to this day.

    slashgear-0000

Then again, speakers are something that practically last forever, and some would say that they’re like fine wine: the longer they’re around, the better they sound. I actually used to have a set of old speakers from when my dad was a DJ back in the 70s, and used them as computer speakers for a while, but they were too big and clunky (as with any older speaker set), so I had to eventually be realistic and get a Logitech 2.1 system.

Take a look at the devices that you use every day (or mostly every day) and see what the oldest one is. I’m sure there will be a lot of answers that will surpass my 10 years with my speaker system, but we look forward to seeing what devices you keep around, either for its simplicity, or the fact that you just can’t seem to part with it.
