How Xbox Live's Cloud Computing Could Make Games That Last Forever

At Microsoft’s huge Xbox reveal last spring, the company made a big hubub about the 300,000 cloud servers it would be adding to help speed up GPU and CPU heavy tasks. But in an interview with Gizmodo, Xbox Live Lead Programmer John Bruno detailed how it could change the way we think about gaming in the future.

Wordament Brings Xbox Live Achievements Onto Android

Wordament Brings Xbox Live Achievements Onto AndroidIf you’re the sort of gamer who absolutely must collect every achievement in a video game, you might be interested to learn that Microsoft’s Wordament game for the Windows Phone and Windows 8 platform has made its way onto Android. The word puzzle game will allow gamers to play as a guest, or log in with their Xbox Live account and use their gametag, which in turn will allow them to start racking up achievements. Xbox Live achievements was previously only available for Windows Phone devices, at least as far as mobile gaming is concerned, so this would make it a first for an Android game to allow a gamer to collect Xbox Live achievements and points at the same time.

For Windows Phone users, Microsoft has also updated the game and will be native to the Windows Phone platform, removing the letterboxing format. The update will allow for logging in via Facebook and will support new languages as well. Oddly enough it seems that Microsoft is not syncing the achievements, meaning that if you’ve played the Windows Phone or iOS version of the game, you will have to collect the achievements all over again. The game is available for free so if you’d like to check it out and start collecting new achievements, hit up the Google Play store for the download!

Microsoft Wants To Fix Technical Glitch On Xbox Live Arcade

Microsoft Wants To Fix Technical Glitch On Xbox Live Arcade It seems that Microsoft has not yet managed to fix what they consider to be a “technical glitch” that currently affects thousands of downloadable Xbox 360 games. Apparently, it was reported that problems started to creep up on Thursday when users noticed that titles from the Xbox Live Arcade and Xbox Live Indie Games sections of the Xbox Games Store began to play the role of the great Harry Houdini – as they started to disappear.

In fact, Gamasutra claimed that the number of Xbox Live Indie Games dipped to a mere 949 titles yesterday from a total of some 2,100 titles, while Microsoft’s Xbox Live status page did depict that users would run into issues when downloading content on the Xbox 360 console in addition to doing so on the Xbox.com. Not only that, it also points to the Windows 8 Xbox SmartGlass app as being plagued by launching issues.

Microsoft did issue a statement, saying, “We’re aware there is an issue affecting the Xbox Games Store that has temporarily removed some content including Xbox Live Arcade and Xbox Live Indie Games titles. This is a technical glitch and we’re working to fix the issue as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.” Are you frustrated by this technical glitch?

Microsoft reportedly funding Blake’s 7 remake for Xbox Live TV content push

    Blake's 7

According to the Financial Times, Britain’s other blockbuster sci-fi series may finally be remade, thanks to Microsoft’s growing interest in television. Blake’s 7, the Terry Nation-created show about a band of renegades fighting for survival, is believed to be part of Xbox Live’s push for original and exclusive TV content to rival both traditional media and services like Netflix. Persons familiar with the matter have claimed that after cable channel SyFy withdrew its funding, Steve Ballmer and former CBS Chief Nancy Tellem opened up Microsoft’s secret checkbook. Naturally, none of the parties are willing to confirm the deal, but that won’t stop us humming the classic series’ theme for the rest of the day.

Why the Hell Are the Xbox One's Best New Features Behind a Paywall?

You don’t buy a Big Mac and pay extra for special sauce. You don’t buy an iPhone and pay extra for FaceTime.
