Xbox 360 Games Streaming Via Cloud On Xbox One Deemed ‘Problematic’

Xbox 360 Games Streaming Via Cloud On Xbox One Deemed Problematic

We heard just a few months ago from Microsoft’s senior director of product management at Xbox , Albert Panello, concerning the possibility if the Xbox One offering backwards compatibility “eventually.” It looks like Panello may have changed his tune slightly since he last spoke about the matter back in September as he recently chatted with Polygon, admitting using cloud streaming on the Xbox One for backwards compatibility of Xbox 360 titles have been too “problematic” to be made available to consumers. SkyDrive With Your Xbox One

SkyDrive With Your Xbox OneSo, you happen to be one of those who wants to pick up the Xbox One console when it finally hits the market later this month? Well, I am quite sure that you are going to have a smashing time with this video game console, but there is one thing that you ought to remember that the Xbox One is not all about games, as there will also be something to do with “work”, too. I am referring to SkyDrive on Xbox One which is touted to deliver a seamless, beautiful experience so that Xbox One users will be able to sit back and enjoy not only photos but videos as well in their own personal collection, alongside those that have been shared with you.

Imagine opening photo albums from channels in the OneGuide, or to play music alongside your slideshows with Xbox Music, as well as to control the entire app with gestures and voice, thanks to the wonders of the Kinect. All that is required at the very beginning would be an extremely simple command that goes like this, “Xbox: Go to SkyDrive.”

This is touted to be different from any other SkyDrive experience that has been released in the past, with full energy by the development team being focused on photos and videos so that they not only look great, but sound great as well on the TV.

Earlier this morning, Sony published quite the unboxing video for its PlayStation 4 which we certainly would like to see done by other consumer electronics companies in the future. Xbox One Will Require Day One Update To Be Completely Functional

Xbox One Will Require Day One Update To Be Completely FunctionalWhile Microsoft might have backtracked on their policies regarding the always-on requirement for their Xbox One video game console, this does not mean that you won’t need an internet connection at all. In fact if you are planning on getting the Xbox One, you will need to have an internet connection, at least upon firing up the console because according to Microsoft, gamers will be required to download the day one patch if they hope to use the console. While it was known that a day one patch would be required, as is usually the case with consoles, it was not known as to how extensive the update might be.

The folks at Engadget posed such a question to Microsoft’s senior director of product management, Albert Penello, and asked if the console would still work and play games with a physical game disc even if they have no internet connection on day one. According to Penello, “Nothing. You need the Day One update.” Penello went on to state, “A lot of the apps come with the day one update because they wouldn’t have even been done […] You’re gonna need to take this update. It’s not gonna be really an optional thing’.” So there you have it, if you were thinking of getting the Xbox One, best make sure your ISP is good and ready and hope nothing goes wrong on day one itself!

Xbox One Unlocks Achievements As You Watch TV And Movies

Xbox One Unlocks Achievements As You Watch TV And MoviesWho says that being a couch potato is a bad thing? The folks over at Microsoft certainly seem to think otherwise, and might actually have come across an interesting way to reward such couch potatoes. For instance, we now know that the Xbox One is capable of unlocking achievements while you watch TV and movies on the big screen in your living room, and this is made possible thanks to entertainment apps such as Netflix and Amazon Instant Video.

Microsoft confirmed, saying, “Xbox One is empowering partners to bring media achievements and exclusive Snap experiences, as well as many other things to entertainment apps, offering everybody the opportunity to achieve badges or rewards for the media they consume in addition to gaming.”

The entertainment Achievements does seem to be different from that of Xbox One’s Challenges, which are time-restricted tasks that do not add to any Gamerscore, although it remains to be seen whether entertainment Achievements will carry Gamerscore. Earlier in June this year, Microsoft did reveal that Gamerscore would be limited to just games. Well, are you going to get an Xbox One when it hits the market later this month? There are less than two weeks away for you to prepare, and it seems to shape up to a fine gaming session this holiday season. [Press Release]

Xbox One Hotel Opens For Business In Paris

Xbox One Hotel Opens For Business In ParisWhat better way to show your love for a product by staying at a hotel that shares the same name, right? While this isn’t the League of Legends restaurant that opened in China, it’s actually better because in this case, this is an official hotel by Microsoft. The hotel has been given the name, the Xbox One Hotel and is similar to the PlayStation 4 apartment launched by Sony last month. This hotel is only temporary as Microsoft gears up to launch their Xbox One console that will be taking place later this month. Unfortunately for those living in the US or other parts of the world that isn’t Paris, you’d be out of luck because it seems that this establishment is limited to Paris, France at the moment.

While it is unclear as to how much a night at the Xbox One Hotel might cost, what you can do in the hotel is play Xbox One games and basically get an idea of what the Xbox One might be like before console sees it launch and decide if going the Microsoft route is a good idea. As it stands the competition between Sony and Microsoft is starting to heat up, especially with both consoles nearing their respective launches, and with these recent PR stunts by both companies, it’s going to be a pretty close race. What do you guys think? Any of our readers in Paris manage to check out the Xbox One Hotel for themselves?

Some Xbox One Units Shipped To Customers Ahead Of Launch

Some Xbox One Units Shipped To Customers Ahead Of Launch

Christmas might be a little over a month away, but for a few people, it definitely came early. As many as three people received the Xbox One units they had pre-ordered ahead of the launch on November 22nd. At least two of these units were shipped out ahead of time by Target. One unit even made it online on eBay and started raking in the bids before the seller yanked the listing for some unknown reason. Screenshots of the Xbox One dashboard have already emerged and now we also know how much the day-one patch weighs, its a 500MB download according to @moonlightswami, who was one of the lucky few to receive the Xbox One. He also claims that the Xbox One takes 17 seconds to boot up.

As word broke that several consoles had been shipped, Microsoft blocked those consoles after a short while. Major Nelson confirmed on Twitter that the ban is not permanent. A spokesperson for Microsoft also confirmed to The Verge that these consoles are going to be “restricted” from connecting to Xbox Live until “closer to our launch date.” The company says that it has put these restrictions in place as it is still putting “finishing touches” on games, online services and the user interface. Xbox One Won’t Initially Support 3D Blu-rays

Xbox One Wont Initially Support 3D Blu rays

November is finally here and enthusiastic gamers around the world are waiting on Microsoft to release its next generation console, the Xbox One. Much has already been written and read about the console, the hype has certainly not died down up till now. This is the first console from Microsoft to have a Blu-ray player built-in, but its going to be of no use to people who want to play 3D Blu-rays, at least initially. Microsoft has confirmed to CNET that at launch, the console is not going to support 3D Blu-ray disc playback.

Though Microsoft hasn’t said if its never going to add this feature. There exists the possibility that support for 3D Blu-ray playback may be added in the future. Sony allows both 3D games and 3D Blu-ray movies on the PS3, but it hasn’t clarified as yet if the PS4 is able to do this as well. Sony’s official FAQ page for the PS4 says that the console is capable of supporting 3D games, but no such titles are available at launch. Its too soon to say how much time Microsoft will take before finally allowing the playback of 3D Blu-rays on the Xbox One. The Xbox One launches November 22nd in the U.S.
