Both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One will require day-one patches as both Sony and Microsoft attempt to make their next-generation consoles perform as well as they’d like on launch day. The PlayStation 4 can be downloaded in the background, allowing owners of the next-gen console to use the system, but this isn’t exactly the same case over in Microsoft’s camp. (more…)
Sony announced a total of 11 entertainment applications will be available at the launch of the PlayStation 4. A number of notable applications, such as Netflix, Hulu Plus and Redbox Instant by Verizon, will be downloadable as soon as you get your PlayStation 4 into your household, and today, it’s Microsoft’s turn to announce what entertainment apps the Xbox One will launch with. (more…)
At the end of this year, both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One will be released, ushering in a new generation of video game consoles. Since we’re getting close to both the launch of the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, both companies have been going full steam ahead over the past few weeks. Today, Microsoft has published a new 12-minute video showing off much of the final software and hardware of the Xbox One. (more…)
Microsoft has posted an extensive, 12-minute video walkthrough of what it’s like to use the Xbox One, including showing off its Live TV, Skype, game DVR and biometric sign-in features, among others. It’s almost like you’re using it yourself, except it’s actually Xbox CMO Yusuf Mehdi and Xbox Corporate VP Marc Whitten providing you with the vicarious experience.
Bing and Skype both get cameos (the Skype tracking at around 6:20 is pretty cool), and you can see just how easy it is to switch between things like box scores, playing an Xbox game, chatting with friends and watching streaming content from Hulu Plus and Netflix. The easy switching alone looks like a decent reason to upgrade from previous generation devices, which almost always required quitting one thing entirely to start up another, rather than making it easy to pop between activities.
I still haven’t been swayed enough to lay down cash for a launch day console, of either the Xbox or the PlayStation variety, but I have to say, the more I see, the more I’m impressed.
Microsoft has officially announced very first wave of TV and entertainment apps that will be coming to the Xbox One game console when it launches this month. Microsoft says that it’s been working with leading entertainment brands and TV providers for years to offer live and on-demand entertainment for Xbox users. The Xbox One console […]
When the Xbox One made its entrance back in May, showing off its slick, boxy body and collection of Kinect tricks, we were treated to a little taste of how it was not only going to play games, but also take charge of your TV. Since then, we haven’t heard to much more, but we sat down with Microsoft to find out more about what this will all look like. Turns out it looks like pure future.
Gamers who enjoy a good first-person shooter and plan to purchase the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One consoles along with Battlefield 4 have some very interesting multiplayer battles waiting. We already know that Battlefield 4 will be available on the launch day for both of those consoles. EA is taking some time to brag […]
With the Microsoft Xbox One being the company’s upcoming latest video game console, you would think that Microsoft would try to garner as much sales as possible and perhaps wait a while before they start handing out freebies, right? Well perhaps not. In what looks like a pretty good PR strategy, it seems that Microsoft has recently begun to hand out free Xbox One units, games, music, and a 12-month subscription to Xbox Live Gold to a select few Xbox gamers. The type of giveaway will depend on the gamer’s status, for example Microsoft’s MVPs have reported receiving codes that will entitle them to a free console, while regular Xbox gamers will receive free DLCs, such as a full roster of Killer Instinct characters, just to name some of the giveaways.
According to Microsoft’s official Xbox Twitter account, the giveaway is based on factors such as, “Gamerscore, LIVE tenure, & other factors in markets where #XboxOne is available.” This was in response to one Twitter user who thought it was a bit odd that many 10 year Xbox veterans were not subject to these freebies, as you would think that Microsoft would be eager to reward its most loyal gamers. In any case it’s still a pretty awesome move by Microsoft, and if you’re one of the lucky winners, let us know in the comments below on what freebie Microsoft has decided to bestow upon you!
We learned just a few weeks ago the PlayStation 4 will have a day-one patch available to unlock some of the console’s major features, which thankfully can be downloaded in the background while you get yourself better acquainted with your new next-generation console. Over in Microsoft’s camp, the Xbox One will also have a day-one patch available, altough the console’s Cloud updates may pose a problem if you’re right in the middle of a heated battle. (more…)
We learned earlier this year the Xbox One would make it possible to redeem QR codes through the console’s new Kinect thanks to a tweet sent out by Xbox corporate vice president Marc Whitten, which we’re sure many of you who have input the extremely long download codes for the Xbox 360 will appreciate. It can take quite a long time to input all of those characters using only the Xbox 360 controller, so this addition is one we’re certainly looking forward to when our Xbox One game comes with exclusive content. But just how easy will the process be? Well – Larry Hyrb uploaded a new video to his Vine account that shows the process. (more…)
