Microsoft Xbox One Specifications Could Be Upgraded Before Launch

Microsoft Xbox One Specifications Could Be Upgraded Before LaunchBetween the two next generation video game consoles, the Xbox One from Microsoft seems to be having a tough time convincing the masses that it is better than the Sony PS4, and a whole lot of the blame could be pointed at Microsoft themselves. Well, you know the saying – when life gives you lemons, make lemonade! I guess this is what Microsoft is doing right now with whispers going around that the Xbox One could actually be updated with better hardware specifications before it is unleashed upon the masses.

While the Xbox One remains an impressive gaming machine, it is still outperformed by Sony’s PS4, and so a certain Marc Whitten stated on Major Nelson’s podcast that the Xbox One’s GPU will be on the receiving end of a clock bump from 800MHz to 853MHz, resulting in a 6.5% increase in processing power. This might not do much to close the gap with the Sony PS4, but every little bit counts, don’t you think so? I guess what we see on paper and how developers make full use of the console are two very different things, and we cannot wait for the next generation console wars to break out in full swing.

Xbox One AR gaming glasses appear in Microsoft patent

It looks like Microsoft is taking a dip into the wearable technology pool with a new patent that reveals plans for a pair of augmented-reality glasses that would be used during multiplayer gaming to receive voice commands, track your eyes, and recognize the faces of other players. As such, these glasses take a different approach […]

Xbox One GPU gets slight increase in performance before arrival

The Xbox One has already seen a lot of changes since its initial unveiling back in May. Most of the changes were simple reversals on earlier features that got gamers pretty upset with Microsoft. However, this newest update will put a smile on gamers’ faces. Microsoft bumped up the performance of the Xbox One’s GPU […]

Microsoft Just Improved the Xbox One's Graphics Powers

Well, Microsoft does seem to be listening to people. A sticking point for a lot of fans on the next-generation console has been that it’s less powerful than Sony’s PlayStation 4. In a podcast today, though, Major Nelson talked with Xbox’s Marc Whitten about some changes to the Xbox One that will let it crank out better graphics.

Forza 5 Team Says Xbox One Cloud Servers Deliver 600% AI Performance Boost

Forza 5 Team Says Xbox One Cloud Servers Deliver 600% AI Performance BoostWhen the Xbox One was announced sometime in the middle of this year along with all the juicy details, one of the games mentioned was Forza Motorsport 5, which proved to be quite a stunner. Since beauty is only skin deep, a car racing game would work even better when you have AI that acts more like a human driver than a computer, which is what Forza 5 is set to deliver when it arrives on store shelves (although you will still need to download a bunch of data after installation on your Xbox One before the game can run prim and proper). Xbox One cloud servers offer equivalent to 600 percent AI processing boost, claims Forza 5 team

Xbox One cloud servers offer equivalent to 600 percent AI processing boost, claims Forza 5 team

Microsoft already talked up how the cloud component of its Xbox One console will work, but now we’re hearing of the benefits from the dev’s side. The verdict is certainly positive so far, with Dan Greenawalt, creative director for Forza 5, extolling its virtues, citing it as a “tremendous opportunity” in a recent interview with OXM. His team has been using it to take care of a lot of the AI elements in the game — such as its Drivatar system — which he claims would usually take up about 10 – 20 percent of the console’s processing power. By letting the cloud deal with it, however, it can spill out into much greater complexity, with Greenawalt claiming a boost equivalent to “600 percent” of the actual Xbox’s brains. This, in turn, freeing up the 10 – 20 percent it would have used for something else. Bold statement, of course, but with the early signals looking good, this is one feature we’re glad still made the cut.

PS4 And Xbox One Games Could Cost 37% More In Australia

PS4 And Xbox One Games Could Cost 37% More In AustraliaCompanies such as Apple and Adobe have been questioned by the Australian government in the past over why their products are priced higher in their country, even after conversion which makes certain products a lot more expensive than their North American equivalents. While Adobe has caved to the Australian government’s demands, could Sony and Microsoft eventually cave too? If you’re wondering what we’re talking about, Choice Online from Australia  has reported that it is possible that Australians can expect to pay a lot more for PS4 and Xbox One games.

The company has reported that based on their comparisons of prices from local retailers such as JB Hi-Fi and EB Games, they expect that Australians could pay as much as 37% more for PS4 and Xbox One games compared to those living in North America, where the games have be priced at $59.99. Naturally this is pretty unfair for Australian gamers, and while it is understandable that Microsoft and Sony might not price it at AUD59.99 as they could make a loss due to the USD being stronger than the Aussie dollar, pricing it 37% higher seems a little extreme. It will be interesting to see if the Australian government has anything to say about this.

How the Xbox One Is Designed To Be Left Switched on for 10 Years

How the Xbox One Is Designed To Be Left Switched on for 10 Years

There’s a reason Xbox One comes in that whopping great 1980s VCR style case, and it’s not because some one in authority at Microsoft went mad. It’s for cooling, to help keep it quiet and reliable—and so you can leave it switched on constantly for the next ten years.

Xbox One Will Not Be “Reintroduced”, Major Nelson Refutes Rumors

Xbox One Will Not Be Reintroduced, Major Nelson Refutes RumorsPrior to E3, Microsoft unveiled their next-gen console the Xbox One, and then E3 came around and more details of the Xbox One were shared along with some policies which ultimately proved to be extremely unpopular with the masses.

Microsoft then backtracked on those policies but the damage was done and many gamers still remember them, which is why recently there has been a rumor floating about that Microsoft was looking to “reintroduce” the Xbox One console.

Apparently the move was so that Microsoft could create a fresh start in their relationship with the media and customers. As it turns out the rumor was false as Microsoft’s Larry Hyrb, also known as Major Nelson, refuted it on Reddit where he was quoted as saying that the rumor was not legitimate.

We’re not sure how much it would have helped anyway if Microsoft were to “reintroduce” the console, but at the same time it should be noted that not everyone was happy when Microsoft rescinded those policies, with some gamers even going as far as signing a petition asking Microsoft to bring those policies back.

Xbox One Allegedly Designed To Remain Powered On For 10 Years Straight

Xbox One Allegedly Designed To Remain Powered On For 10 Years StraightThere are some electrical items in your home that you tend to keep powered on round the clock, and they tend to last for years and years without spoiling, such as a refrigerator or one of those electric hotpots. I am sure that many of us do leave our modems and routers on throughout the day and night, too. How about gaming consoles?

Eurogamer has reported that sources from within Microsoft shared that the recently revealed Xbox One, touted by analysts to sell out and experience shortages at launch, was specially designed to last for 10 years at the minimum – and in fact, was quoted as saying that you can leave the Xbox One powered on throughout the entire 10 years, and it will still run fine and dandy. Of course, with a hardware design that allows it to be always on, it runs at a quiet level with low power states to ensure that its longevity will live up to its claim. While it is not likely that most people would leave their Xbox One turned on all the time, to hear that it was designed in such a way to last so long is comforting. Now, all we need to do is confirm this bit of news 10 years down the road after the Xbox One has been released.
