Xbox One Day One Patch Required To Start Using The Console

Xbox One Day One Patch Required To Start Using The Console

Both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One will require day-one patches as both Sony and Microsoft attempt to make their next-generation consoles perform as well as they’d like on launch day. The PlayStation 4 can be downloaded in the background, allowing owners of the next-gen console to use the system, but this isn’t exactly the same case over in Microsoft’s camp. (more…)

Microsoft Xbox One’s Features Shown Off In New 12-Minute Video

At the end of this year, both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One will be released, ushering in a new generation of video game consoles. Since we’re getting close to both the launch of the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, both companies have been going full steam ahead over the past few weeks. Today, Microsoft has published a new 12-minute video showing off much of the final software and hardware of the Xbox One. (more…)

Microsoft Shows You The Entire Xbox One Experience With Video Tour Ahead Of Nov. 22 Launch

    xbox-one

Microsoft has posted an extensive, 12-minute video walkthrough of what it’s like to use the Xbox One, including showing off its Live TV, Skype, game DVR and biometric sign-in features, among others. It’s almost like you’re using it yourself, except it’s actually Xbox CMO Yusuf Mehdi and Xbox Corporate VP Marc Whitten providing you with the vicarious experience.

Bing and Skype both get cameos (the Skype tracking at around 6:20 is pretty cool), and you can see just how easy it is to switch between things like box scores, playing an Xbox game, chatting with friends and watching streaming content from Hulu Plus and Netflix. The easy switching alone looks like a decent reason to upgrade from previous generation devices, which almost always required quitting one thing entirely to start up another, rather than making it easy to pop between activities.

I still haven’t been swayed enough to lay down cash for a launch day console, of either the Xbox or the PlayStation variety, but I have to say, the more I see, the more I’m impressed.

The Xbox One Will Make Your Cable Box Look Like a Relic

When the Xbox One made its entrance back in May, showing off its slick, boxy body and collection of Kinect tricks, we were treated to a little taste of how it was not only going to play games, but also take charge of your TV. Since then, we haven’t heard to much more, but we sat down with Microsoft to find out more about what this will all look like. Turns out it looks like pure future.

Xbox One Cloud Updates May Reboot Your Console While Playing A Game

We learned just a few weeks ago the PlayStation 4 will have a day-one patch available to unlock some of the console’s major features, which thankfully can be downloaded in the background while you get yourself better acquainted with your new next-generation console. Over in Microsoft’s camp, the Xbox One will also have a day-one patch available, altough the console’s Cloud updates may pose a problem if you’re right in the middle of a heated battle. (more…)

Microsoft Demonstrates Xbox One Kinect QR Code Redemption [Video]

Microsoft Demonstrates Xbox One Kinect QR Code Redemption [Video]

We learned earlier this year the Xbox One would make it possible to redeem QR codes through the console’s new Kinect thanks to a tweet sent out by Xbox corporate vice president Marc Whitten, which we’re sure many of you who have input the extremely long download codes for the Xbox 360 will appreciate. It can take quite a long time to input all of those characters using only the Xbox 360 controller, so this addition is one we’re certainly looking forward to when our Xbox One game comes with exclusive content. But just how easy will the process be? Well – Larry Hyrb uploaded a new video to his Vine account that shows the process. (more…)

Xbox Music trial to be included with Xbox One, subscription still required

Earlier this week, Microsoft‘s head of Product Planning for the Xbox One, Albert Penello, got hopes up with a tweet stating that Microsoft would be making Xbox Music ad-supported, making it a Spotify competitor and nixing the subscription model. Unfortunately, that won’t be the case after all, with the subscription model remaining, and Xbox One […]

Yet Another Analyst Thinks Microsoft Should Sell Off Bing And Xbox

Yet Another Analyst Thinks Microsoft Should Sell Off Bing And XboxRemember the other day when we reported that the team who manages Microsoft co-founder’s considerable stock in the company suggested that Microsoft should spin off their Bing search engine and Xbox gaming business? It would seem as though they are not alone in thinking that, and Nomura analyst Rick Sherlund seems to agree with that idea as well, but who is Rick Sherlund and why would his comments be that important? Well Sherlund used to work at Goldman and was acting as point when they took Microsoft public, with some describing him as a long-time friend of Bill Gates, so he might have a bit more clout than your average analyst.

According to Sherlund, he states that Microsoft is currently losing anywhere between $3 billion to $4 billion from both Bing and Xbox combined. While losing money from Bing might be possible, especially given that it would be pretty hard to compete against the likes of Google, the idea of Xbox losing money for Microsoft is hard to believe. In any case he seems to believe that selling or even giving away Bing, or spinning off Xbox or selling the brand would be the best course for the company because as it stands both brands are putting a $0.30-$0.40 drag on Microsoft’s EPS. Sherlund states, “The even bigger issue is that this business does not drive traction in smartphones or tablets and does not contribute to PC demand or enterprise products. They are not strategic and are a costly sideshow.”
