Bethesda Announces Wolfenstein: The New Order For 360, PS3, PC, Next-Gen

Bethesda Announces Wolfenstein: The New Order For 360, PS3, PC, Next Gen

The last time gamers were treated to a Wolfenstein game it was back in 2009 when Activision published its sequel to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, simply called Wolfenstein. It looks like a new game will soon be upon us as Bethesda is announcing Wolfenstein: The New Order is headed our way later this year.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is being developed by MachineGames, which is a studio comprised of former founding members of Starbreeze Studios, a studio that developer The Darkness, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assualt on Dark Athena and Syndicate. The game will be a re-imagining  of the Wolfenstein franchise and is said to offer players a “gripping and dramatic experience.” A teaser trailer was also released today showing William “B.J.” Blazkowicz taking on an army of Nazi-controller robots in what looks to be an alternate time that may have resulted in the Nazi threat continuing through history. Leaked Microsoft Email Hints Next Xbox Won’t Need Always-On Internet

Leaked Microsoft Email Hints Next Xbox Wont Need Always On Internet

For quite some time now we have been hearing rumors that the next generation Xbox will require an always-on internet connection for playing games. It was also rumored that Microsoft will ultimately leave it up to publishers to decide whether their games would need such an internet connection. It is now being reported that Microsoft’s upcoming console will not need to be connected to the internet when the customer wants to play a single player game, play a Blu-ray disc or watch live TV, this according to an allegedly leaked internal Microsoft email.

The email was reportedly sent to full-time Microsoft employees that are working on the upcoming console. It says that “there are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection,” these include the three scenarios mentioned above. If this turns out to be true, many prospective Xbox customers will heave a sigh of relief. This alleged email also confirms another rumor that the next Xbox can be hooked up with cable boxes for watching live TV. Microsoft will be announcing the next generation Xbox on the 21st of May, followed by a full unveil at the E3 conference in June.

Xbox 720 to allow games without internet connection after all

It’s been wildly speculated that Microsoft‘s next-generation gaming console would come with a crazy feature that would require a constant internet connection, or else it would essentially be useless. However, to one’s real surprise, it’s said that Microsoft will, in fact, not require an internet connection for some of the console’s tasks.

xbox_360-580x3642-111

According to Ars Technica, Microsoft sent out an internal email to all full-time employees working on the next Xbox saying that “there are a number of scenarios that users expect to work without an internet connection, and those should ‘just work’ regardless of their current connection status.” Microsoft suggested playing Blu-ray discs, watching live TV, and playing single player games as examples.

This certainly makes sense, as we’re prone to believe that making a gaming console completely inoperable without an internet connection is quite illogical. The email also essentially confirms other rumors as well: The Xbox 720 will come with a Blu-ray drive, as well as some sort of input where you can plug your TV or set-top box into to watch live TV.

It’s not known exactly how far the offline capabilities will go in the new console, but it would be a fair bet to say that there will simply be some things that will require an internet connection — tasks that didn’t require an internet connection on past consoles. It’s possible that Microsoft could implement some kind of system to verify games being installed without having to be online, but we’ll ultimately have to wait and see what the company comes up with.

Xbox Infinite Name Allegedly Leaked In Upcoming Sonic Game [Rumor]

Xbox Infinite Name Allegedly Leaked In Upcoming Sonic Game [Rumor]We’ve been hearing all sorts of combinations for Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox, such as the Xbox 720, the Xbox Infinity, and recently the Xbox Fusion. Since Microsoft has not officially announced the name of their next-gen console, we guess any of these names could be likely, although thanks to a recent leak, it seems that the Xbox Infinity, or at least a variant of it, could be possible. According to a post on NeoGAF, it seems that there might have been a leak from SEGA for the company’s alleged upcoming Sonic game, Sonic Excursion.

According to the alleged leak, the game apparently listed which platforms it would be available on, and listed platforms such as the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, 3DS, and interestingly a certain Xbox Infinite. Like we said earlier, since Microsoft has not officially announced anything, any of these speculated names is just as likely as the next, but at the same time if this leak from SEGA is real, we’re guessing that SEGA probably knows something that we don’t, making the Xbox Infinite moniker even more possible. Either way take it with a grain of salt for now, but how does the Xbox Infinite name sound to you guys?

Xbox 720 “ultimate gaming console” focus would make Molyneux a “happy bunny”

This week the founder of both 22cans and Lionhead gaming companies suggested that he’ll be excited to see how far the next-generation Xbox has come since he saw Microsoft’s plans a year ago. Peter Molyneux made it clear that his hopes for the Microsoft-made console centered on gaming and that the company make what he called “the ultimate gaming console.” The alternative, he said, was that the creators of the console would get distracted with living room entertainment abilities and technologies like Glass and touch.

Speaking with IGN about his future and past with the Xbox 720 – or whatever it ends up being called – Molyneux revealed that he’d been aware of the so-called “original plans” for this next-generation console. Saying he’ll be “fascinated” by the evolution of the futuristic Xbox machine between then and now one way or the other, he made clear more than once that he’d be happy without any “Netflix… Facebook… Twittering” business.

“I just want the ultimate gamer’s device. If they focus on that I’ll be a happy bunny.

If they get distracted, and overly distracted, by trying to play catch-up with some of the Glass and touch technology that’s out there, not because it makes sense for games but because that’s something they feel they have to do, then I’m going to be miffed.” – Peter Molyneux

The game Molyneux until recently was working on that’ll see the Xbox 720′s launch will be the newest in the Fable series, an MMO iteration of the epic story bringing an open landscape to the console in the next few years. Below you’ll see a trailer for the game Fable III, a game launched several years ago for the Xbox 360. It’s expected that the new Fable game will have significantly greater depth.

The team Molyneux works with now, 22cans, brought forth the game Curiosity – one which will be nearing it’s “end” rather soon. Have a peek at the latest trailer for this game below and note that it’s quite likely the game will transition to a new era right around the time the Microsoft event for the Xbox 720 will be happening – May 21st – catch SlashGear as we bring it to you right up to the second!

Microsoft Sends Out Invites For Pre-E3 Xbox Press Event On June 10

Microsoft Sends Out Invites For Pre E3 Xbox Press Event On June 10

The next Xbox is expected to be unveiled on May 21 in Microsoft’s HQ in Redmond, Washington, but that it looks like the company will have more to share with the public outside of its next-generation Xbox as they have just sent out invites to its pre-E3 Xbox press event, which will be held on June 10.

Since the May 21 event is most likely focus on the next Xbox and what it’s capable of, similar to what we saw Sony do with its February event where it highlighted the PlayStation 4, Microsoft’s pre-E3 event may be used as a way to discuss its plans for its next Xbox on a more broader scale as the company has typically used its press event to highlight a broad range of its upcoming products and notable software. In other words, its May 21 event will most likely be geared towards the hardcore fans, while its E3 press event will be geared towards all gamers as well as those who use their Xbox as an entertainment hub. Call of Duty: Ghosts Officially Announced To Be Released On November 5

Ever since the box art for what seemed to be the next Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Ghosts, appeared on the Internet last week, we’ve been hearing little bits of info with an expected unveiling of the game happening today. It looks like that’s exactly what is happening as Activision is announcing Call of Duty: Ghosts today.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is being developed by long-time Call of Duty franchise developer, Infinity Ward, and is expected to be the first Call of Duty title that is being made available on next-generation consoles as well as the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on November 5. Xbox 720 is Xbox Fusion suggests latest console chatter

Microsoft isn’t far off announcing the first official details about its upcoming “Xbox 720” next-gen console, but according to the latest batch of whispers the gaming flagship will launch as the Xbox Fusion. Speculation about the official name Microsoft will give the Xbox 360 successor has circulated since shortly after the 360 itself arrived, with the current internal codename “Durango” and tongue-in-cheek “Xbox 720″ expected to fall by the wayside in favor of a more distinctive brand.

xbox720-640x353-580x319

Rumors about that brand have pointed to Xbox Infinity most recently, with what was tipped to be leaked promotional material from Microsoft indicating an infinity-sign style logo for the upcoming hardware. However, the fact that Microsoft does not own the “xboxinfinity.com” domain has led to doubts that it will be the eventual brand.

That’s not the case for Xbox Infinity, however, as Fusible points out. Microsoft registered “xboxinfinity.com” all the way back in early 2004, the site points out, with the URL currently redirecting to Xbox.com.

In addition to the .com domain, Microsoft has also registered the .info, .biz, .de, .co.uk, and other variants of the XboxFusion URL. As for how the name might link with the leaked infinity symbol, there are arguments that the two interconnected loops could well be seen as elements fusing together.

Of course, it’s too soon to say that Fusion will be Microsoft’s choice of name, and it’s worth noting that a quick glance through the company’s trademark registrations shows it’s missing from that list at present. Fusion, if indeed it ever gets used for a commercial product or service, could instead be to do with how Xbox, Windows, and Windows Phone devices play together, for instance; indeed, there’s some speculation that Microsoft will go with the relatively simple “Xbox” as the name for the new console.

The first details will come on May 21, when Microsoft will hold an event on the Xbox campus to show the initial fruits of its endeavors.

Microsoft Registers Xbox Fusion Domain Names, Possible Name For Next-Gen Xbox?

Microsoft Registers Xbox Fusion Domain Names, Possible Name For Next Gen Xbox?We know that come 21st of May, there is a good chance that Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox will be unveiled. At the moment many people are referring to the console as the Xbox 720 which seems like a logical progression from the Xbox 360, although it was not too long ago that speculation pointed towards the next-gen Xbox being called the Xbox Infinity. While that may or may not a possibility, it seems that Microsoft has registered a couple of new domains recently (spotted by Fusible) with the name “Xbox Fusion”, giving rise to the speculation that the console might be called the Xbox Fusion instead.

Of course this Fusion name could be related to anything, it could be the name for a new service Microsoft plans to debut with the next-gen Xbox, although one domain investor seems to be pretty certain that this could be the name of the next-gen Xbox. Either way take what you will from this, but what do you guys think of the Xbox Fusion name? Or do you prefer the previous suggestions such as Xbox Infinity or Xbox 720?

Machinima launch for Xbox 360 has us watching more games than we play

Machinima launches for Xbox 360, has us watching more games than we play

When Microsoft piled on the Xbox media channels last year, we didn’t realize just how long it would take for some of those channels to come to fruition. We’re quite possibly on the cusp of new hardware, and Machinima’s app is just now making its Xbox 360 debut. Still, it might be worth the wait for those who live and breathe gaming even after they’ve set down the gamepad. The app includes the full suite of Machinima channels and their associated videos, ranging from regular shows and specials through to game blooper reels. Machinima is available everywhere Xbox Live is active; if that isn’t enough to tide you over, Microsoft is teasing the reveal of a OneBeat electronic music app next month.
