Xbox 720 Will Be Revealed On May 21st

Xbox 720 Will Be Revealed On May 21st

After months of speculation and rumors about the next generation Xbox release date, Microsoft has finally confirmed when it will be making the official announcement. As we had reported a fortnight ago, the new Xbox will be announced on May 21st. Microsoft will be making this announcement at its Redmond headquarters. If you can’t personally attend the event at Redmond but would like to watch it, you can tune in to the event livestream on Xbox.com, Xbox Live or on Spike TV.

Microsoft says that the announcement of next generation Xbox will mark the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment. The May 21st event is said to be an intimate affair, the full unveil is expected for E3 conference which takes place in June. Microsoft says that at the conference in June, they will continue the conversation and showcase their full lineup of “blockbuster” games. There have been many rumors recently that perhaps Xbox 720 will require an always-on internet connection and that it won’t be backwards compatible. Some of these questions will definitely be answered on the 21st of May. Who’s excited?

Today invitations have been issued to an event for the press that will reveal what Microsoft is suggesting will be “a new generation revealed” for the Xbox. This invitation notes that Don Mattrick will be present with the whole Xbox team and that a “special unveiling” will be taking place. This timeline and recent reports combined suggest this event will be the home of the official unveiling of the rumored Xbox 720.

This generation’s console will be going to battle directly with the already announced PlayStation 4 and will be bringing with it Microsoft’s next generation of gaming software. It’s highly likely that the event will contain more than just details about the console itself, bringing with it a collection of developers and game producers from top-name brands and legacy affiliates.

“On that day, we’ll share our vision for Xbox, and give you a real taste of the future. Then, 19-days later at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, we’ll continue the conversation and showcase our full lineup of blockbuster games.

We are thrilled to pull back the curtain and reveal what we’ve been working on.” – Major Nelson

This event will be happening on the 21st of May, less than a month away. This is well ahead of the gaming convention E3, this allowing game developers to ready their wares for the convention while the Microsoft-made machine has its own day in the sun.

have a peek at the brief timeline below of recent tips and suggestions from the SlashGear archive of Xbox 720 articles. As this event takes place at the real-deal Xbox campus, we can expect nothing less than a significant showing by the creators of this machine prepared for the future.

Microsoft announces Xbox event for May 21st

Microsoft announces Xbox event for May 21st

What many suspected was coming has indeed happened: Microsoft just confirmed an upcoming Xbox event on May 21st, which we expect to be focused on the company’s next-gen Xbox console (informally codenamed Durango). The company isn’t diving into specifics at this stage, but the event is taking place on its own Xbox campus and should offer a “real taste of the future,” according to Xbox Live programming director Larry Hryb. Don’t worry too much that Microsoft will completely upstage E3, which happens just a few weeks later — Hryb also promises that his firm will “continue the conversation” at the show, focusing attention on its game lineup. Players will have a chance to stream the event through both Microsoft’s services (including Xbox Live) and Spike TV, but you can be sure we’ll be on the ground to share the news first-hand.

Pizza Hut Xbox 360 app lets you order food without leaving the console

When you are on a weekend gaming binge there are times when you’re hungry, but you don’t want to drop out of the game to go and order your pizza. Not to mention the fact that pizza delivery people can be incredibly irritating to talk to because they always want to put you on hold and you have to listen to a long list of specials before you can order whatever it is you really want. Pizza Hut has a very interesting idea to make ordering your favorite pie a snap, right from your Xbox.

ph-app

That means all you need to do is find yourself a nice place to hide, open the new Pizza Hut Xbox 360 app, and build your favorite pizza. The Pizza Hut for Xbox app makes the restaurant’s entire menu accessible to users right from the console, that means pizza, pasta, bread sticks, dessert, and anything else on the menu. Users of the application can build their own customized pizza and take advantage of Kinect motion controls, voice commands, or the controller make the order.

The app links with the users Xbox and PizzaHut.com accounts enabling the ability to save orders making it easier to order pizza from your console in the future. The linking of those two accounts also allows you to take advantage of special offers available at local stores. The application also allows users to share their dinner choices with friends via Facebook.

According to Xbox team member Larry Hyrb, the application has been in the works for a long time. Hyrb says that the app came about from “mutual conversation” between the Xbox team and Pizza Hut. This app is the first of its kind allowing gamers to purchase physical goods using a dedicated app on their console. Hyrb also says that ordering pizzas using the Kinect and motion or voice commands is quicker than using the controller. One upside to using the app, even if you think it’s a strange mashup, is that if you order by May 6 using the Pizza Hut for Xbox app, you can get 15% off your first purchase. The app will be available for Xbox 360 users today.

Xbox Live Account Lets You Place Pizza Hut Orders Online

Xbox Live Account Lets You Place Pizza Hut Orders OnlineGaming can be hard work, or so some of you hardcore gamers say. Well, when you are engrossed with a particular title like say, the Metal Gear Solid or Grand Theft Auto series, there is very little time for anything else other than the mandatory toilet breaks. Food? What’s that? Why not get something fast and easy to fill your stomach? That is a snap now as you are able to place an order for some Pizza Hut pizza (hopefully it will look like pizza from the get go) from within Xbox Live itself, now how about that?

Microsoft and Pizza Hut have come to an agreement that those who are US members of Xbox Live (which happens to stand at 46 million users worldwide and counting) are now able to place an order for their pizza using an app that is made available on the Xbox Live dashboard. It will play nice with a game controller, with the alternative of using Microsoft’s Kinect motion-sensing system, too. You might want to hurry up though, as for the first fortnight, Xbox Live users will be on the receiving end of 15% discount on orders that are placed from the Pizza Hut app.

Xbox 360 best-selling console for 27 straight months in US

Microsoft is back for yet another month of being on top of the gaming console charts. The company announced today that the Xbox 360 has been the best-selling gaming console in the US for the 27th straight month, selling 261,000 units in March, which is down from 302,000 in February, but it seems it was still enough to retain the lead.

xbox360

Total money spent on the Xbox 360 platform reached $402 million in March as well. This includes hardware, games, and accessories, and the Xbox 360 has sold more of all that than any other gaming console in the US as well, which is fairly impressive, especially for a console that’s several years old and still beat out the new Nintendo Wii U.

As for the most popular video games during March, Xbox 360 versions held six of the 10 positions on the list, with games such as BioShock Infinite, NBA 2K13, Gears of War: Judgment, Tomb Raider, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II. BioShock Infinite just released last month as well and it lead the list for most sales in March.

If you’re rocking an Xbox 360, don’t forget about the free Xbox Live Gold weekend that’s going on right now. Silver members can get free access to the good stuff until Monday at 1 pm ET. You’ll be able to use Netflix to watch the new Hemlock Grove original series, as well as take part in double XP in Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Far Cry 3, and Assassin’s Creed III.

Microsoft offering free Xbox Live Gold this weekend

The last time that Xbox 360 gamers were treated with a free weekend of Xbox Live Gold was back in November. It’s certainly been a few months, but Microsoft has announced that the promotion is back this weekend, giving those who don’t have a Gold membership the opportunity to take part in the $60/year subscription service.

Xbox-Live

The free weekend starts at 10 am ET, which is about a half-hour from now at the time of this writing, and it will end on Monday at 1 pm ET. However, only Xbox Live users in the US, Latin America, Japan, and Canada, so it seems those located in Europe and the UK are out of luck this time around.

Furthermore, some games will be offering double XP this weekend during the promotion, including Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Far Cry 3, and Assassin’s Creed III. Netflix is also premiering its newest original series on the video-streaming service tonight, called Hemlock Grove. EA Sports will also be hosting free tournaments on a variety of their games, including FIFA 13, NBA 2K13, Madden NFL 13, and NHL 13.

While Europe is jipped of a free Xbox Live weekend this weekend, they actually had a free weekend last month with other regions of the world excluded, so Microsoft says that it’s the other way around this time. The free weekend back in November also excluded Europe, but hopefully we’ll see the company release a free weekend where all regions are involved in the future.
