How Flickr's New Head Plans to Rebuild a Photo Brand Fallen From Grace

In its quest to rebuild Flickr into the premier photo service it once was, Yahoo has swiped Google’s ex-global director of product marketing, Bernardo Hernandez, and given him the ultimate task—taking down Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and a whole host of other services so Flickr can reign supreme.

New Yahoo Logo Coming This September 4th

Internet icon Yahoo looks set to get a totally new logo by the time September 4th rolls around, and this would mark a milestone since it would be the first time its distinctive logo would have undergone a change in nearly twenty years. The exclamation mark has extraordinary staying power, however, as Yahoo will be showcasing 30 different logos on its homepage throughout the course of the next four weeks, and when September 4th arrives, one out of the 30 logos will take over as the new corporate logo, as Jon Swartz of USA Today reports.

While the final decision has yet to be made, the company intends to show off various looks to reflect its so-called “renaissance” under its new CEO, Marissa Mayer. The video above, known as “30 days of change” is part of a marketing campaign that will hopefully deliver a bold, new look at the end of it. Do you think you will like or loathe the new logo when it finally rolls out? Only time will tell. What was your reaction to Microsoft’s new logo after 25 years? You can check out what could possibly be Yahoo’s new logo right after the jump.

Yahoo Announced a New Logo By Not Announcing a New Yahoo Logo

Yahoo Announced a New Logo By Not Announcing a New Yahoo Logo

In what could possibly be the most convoluted way to put on a new pair of purple pants, Yahoo has announced that it will be changing its infamous purple exclamation point logo into… something different. You see, it’s not the new simple logo above even though Yahoo posted an image of that new logo in a release talking about the new logo and used that same new logo all over its Tumblr page and is even using that new logo on Yahoo.com. No, no, no. That, I repeat, is not the new logo.

Yahoo to reveal new logo next month, send off current one with daily tribute

Yahoo to reveal new logo next month, send off current one with daily tribute

Since taking on Marissa Mayer as CEO last year, Yahoo’s kept itself occupied with purchasing Tumblr, giving Flickr a facelift, redesigning its email service, fine-tuning its fantasy sports solution and much more. Citing a renewed sense of progress, the company’s announced it’s taking up a new logo that’ll evolve “the essence” of the brand accordingly. While the fresh design won’t be unveiled until September 5th, Yahoo will show off a unique take on its current logo — like the one above — for the next 30 days throughout its homepage and network of sites. Don’t expect a radical departure from its roots, however. An exclamation mark, the color purple and the hallmark yodel will all be a part of the new branding.

Yahoo hires Google's Zagat chief to lead Flickr

Marissa Mayer may have left Google behind over a year ago, but the Mountain View influence is still trickling into Yahoo. Bernardo Hernandez, Google’s Managing Director of Product Management for Zagat, will be joining the company to lead its Flickr efforts. There’s no word on what title will grace his name tag, but he’ll be taking the reins starting tomorrow.

Yahoo Acquires Rockmelt, To Kill All Its Apps In One Month

Yahoo Acquires Rockmelt, To Kill All Its Apps In One Month

At some point you might have heard about Yahoo’s shopping spree. It has picked up quite a lot of services recently, the biggest being Tumblr, for $1.1 billion. Rockmelt, which is a self titled “social” web browser, has now been acquired by Yahoo. The deal has already been confirmed by both companies, financial terms were not disclosed. AllThingsD believes that Yahoo may have paid between $60 to $70 million for Rockmelt.

From now on Rockmelt will no longer be accepting any new users. Moreover, its four mobile apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone will be shutdown on August 31st. Users have until then to export their data. Rockmelt said that it thanks its users for teaching them “a ton” and that they will put everything that they have learned to use working for Yahoo. Only a few months ago Rockmelt had announced that it would cease working on its browser project and instead focus on its mobile apps. The Rockmelt browser experience brought a user’s Facebook content as well as friend right beside all of the websites that they visited, but this “social” web browsing failed to generate a substantial user base. Yahoo says that it can’t wait to integrate Rockmelt’s technology in their platform to deliver best experience to its customers in new and exciting ways.

What Is Rockmelt, the Company Yahoo Just Bought? (Because You Know You Forgot)

What Is Rockmelt, the Company Yahoo Just Bought? (Because You Know You Forgot)

Yahoo’s summer shopping spree has claimed another company. This time it’s former social browser turned Flipboard clone, Rockmelt. Maybe you remember Rockmelt. OK, you probably don’t. Here’s the skinny.

Yahoo acquires Rockmelt: apps close shop on August 31

In its latest in a long line of acquisitions this year, Yahoo has acquired the web browser technology group Rockmelt. While this news does not affect the way that Rockmelt works right this minute as a web browser up for download on multiple platforms, it does spell trouble for those hoping for Rockmelt-centric development in […]

Yahoo adds Rockmelt to its stable of acquisitions

Yahoo adds Rockmelt to its stable of acquisitions

The Yahoo acquisition train just keeps on rolling! Rockmelt, the social browser news portal social content discovery service will be joining a growing cadre of properties that Marissa Mayer has snatched up. The platform, which seems to straddle the line between Pinterest and StumbleUpon, focuses on personalization and social networking as a way to highlight and serve up content it believes you’ll want to read or watch. Yahoo, especially through its homepage portal, has always been about serving up content, and the expectation is that Rockmelt will help the company better hone its understanding of you and what you love. The announcement post makes it clear that Yahoo plans to actually integrate Rockmelt’s technology with its existing platform, though, we’re gonna have to wait a bit longer to see exactly what that marriage may look like. Rockmelt will shut down its existing apps and services on August 31st this year.

Yahoo and NBC Sports launch ‘Fantasy Football Live’ and ‘SportsDash with Yahoo Sports’ shows for TV and the web

Yahoo! and NBC Sports launch Fantasy Football Live Thursday Night! and SportsDash with Yahoo! Sports shows for TV and the web

ESPN may well be the biggest name in both online and television sports coverage, but Yahoo and NBC Sports are doing their best usurp the worldwide leader on both fronts. The latest assault on ESPN’s hegemony comes in the form of two new shows that bridge the gap between TV and online video: Fantasy Football Live – Thursday Night! and SportsDash with Yahoo Sports. Just in time for the start of the NFL season, FF Live – Thursday Night! airs weekly starting August 1st on the NBC Sports channel from 6:30-7PM ET, then continues as a web broadcast on Yahoo! Sports from 7-7:30. Naturally, the show will feature talent from both NBC and Yahoo delivering fantasy football-related info and analysis.

Meanwhile, SportsDash, a SportsCenter-style highlights and analysis program launches on August 19th and will air daily on NBC Sports from noon-1PM ET. SportsDash is taking a page from the Daily Show playbook, as extended interviews and stories will be streamed online from 1-1:15PM after the TV broadcast. Perfect. Two more sources of info we can use to dominate the annual Engadget HD podcast fantasy football pick-em.
