New Android for Twitter makes it easier to seach tweets

There’s a new version of Twitter for Android phones, and even though it doesn’t really make the process of tweeting that much easier, it adds a lot of new ways to search through what everyone else is tweeting about.

Among the changes in Twitter 2.0 for Android are the introduction of universal search, as well as opening up search functions without signing into Twitter. Previously, the app required you to have an account to even browse through the Twittering trends.

When you are signed in, you’ll see a new notification bar at the top where it’s simpler to see direct messages and new tweets/alerts. And finally, the last major update is that it automatically syncs your address book with Twitter matches. So, if you have Joe Smith, joesmith@joesmith.com, in your address book, and Twitter recognizes that name and matching contact info, you’ll get to see Joe’s tweets automatically.

The update is available now for virtually all Android users.
