Motorola impresses with pre-loaded apps list for CLIQ

October 19th may be under a month away, but that’s still an eternity in “waiting years.” Thankfully, Motorola has posted up a handy guide that spells out exactly what kind of pre-loaded software comes with the CLIQ, and we’ve got to say — the list is fairly impressive. For starters, users will get access to LastFM, an array of Google features, Yahoo! Mail (funny, real funny), Digg, Mint, Facebook, Twitter, Travel Channel, MTV and Amazon’s MP3 Store. On top of all that, Moto’s throwing in QuickOffice — a piece that demands $9.99 on the iPhone — as well as TeleNav Navigator, which has also found itself on a few other Android-based smartphones over the centuries. Hit the read link for the full list, but only if you don’t mind the tease.

eviGroup’s Android-based Wallet MID debuts in France (avec video)

Haven’t found a tablet or MID to your liking just yet? Then you may just want to wait another 24 hours, ’cause that’s about the rate they seem to be cropping up these days. This latest one comes from France’s eviGroup, and distinguishes itself somewhat by using Android for an OS, although there doesn’t appear to be any UI customizations to speak of. Otherwise, it looks like this “Wallet” will be able to more hold its own, if not completely stand out form the pack, with it packing a 5-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, 8GB of internal memory, a miniSD card slot for further expansion, an integrated digital camera, and the trifecta of built-in WiFi, GPS and 3G. Still no word on a release over here, but the folks at eviGroup are promising to launch it in Europe at the “beginning of 2010” for €300 (or about $440), and they’ve kindly gone ahead and put together a thorough video overview that you can watch right now (after the break).

Teclast to debut Android-powered PMP? Wake us up when it arrives

Oh, Android — it’s obvious that someone out there wants to see it on tablets, netbooks, toaster ovens — anything, really, that sports a processor and a display (OK, never mind the toaster oven). Now Teclast, fine purveyors of media players with such exciting features as “buttons” and “batteries,” just might have a PMP in the works that sports the buzzworthy open source OS. The T58, whose existence is being reported by imp3.net, is said to sport the RK2808 chipset (with dual-core ARM9 RISC processor), 1280 x 720 touchscreen, WiFi, GPS, and support for all of your favorite media types (that is, if H.264, RMVB, MPEG-4, AVS, and WMV9 files constitute your favorite media types). Can the company manage to not bore us to tears with its next device? And will it have to install a cellphone OS on a media player to do so? Only time will tell.

Layar goes 3D, reality now more augmented than ever

The Layar Reality Browser for Android has already managed to stir up quite a bit of interest in its current state, but it looks like the mad geniuses behind it aren’t about to rest on their slightly augmented laurels just yet, and they’ve now announced that they’re adding full 3D capabilities to the app. That, of course, doesn’t mean you’ll have to start wearing goofy glasses every time you walk outside, but you will soon be able to tag real-life objects with 3D text, or place 3D objects in a real-world space (like the Pac-Man fever dream above, for instance). Of course, the potential uses for the upgrade are limited only by the developers working with it, and they’ll have a bit of time to toy around with things before the 3D-enabled version of Layer launches to the public in November. Head on past the break for a quick video, and hit up the link below for a closer look at what’s in store.

Cellular South scoops up Sprint-spec Hero

If you’d told us that privately-held regional Cellular South would be just the third carrier in the US to properly offer an Android handset, we would’ve laughed until we cried — but now that it’s official, our laughter has turned to steely solemnity and respect for a tiny company going above and beyond the call of duty. The carrier hasn’t announced an availability date, but interested parties can now sign up to be notified when the Hero — an exact duplicate of Sprint’s version — will be launching. Just like Sprint, you get Sense, a 5 megapixel cam, and that chinless bottom that’s less likely to make your thumb upset in day-to-day use than its GSM cousin. We’d say “sign us up,” but then again, we’re not Cellular South subscribers, nor could we be if we wanted to — that’s the perpetual tragedy of the regional carrier, sadly.

[Thanks, Bill]

Larva Labs proposes ‘intelligent’ Android home screen

HTC and Motorola may have done their best to whip Android’s interface into shape, but it looks like the folks at Larva Labs still weren’t satisfied with the options available, so they’ve naturally gone ahead and designed their own UI (with a little help from Ideas on Purpose). While it’s unfortunately still just a concept, the firm’s so-called “Intelligent Home Screen” does bring plenty of interesting ideas to the table, which Larva Labs says should help it “appeal to Blackberry owners and people struggling with information overload.” The centerpiece of the concept is a home screen divided by a (slightly familiar looking) slider bar, which puts personal items like emails up top and general interest stuff on the bottom, with relevant apps accessed by the icon on the right-hand side of the screen, and everything else relegated to a separate menu. Hit up the read link below to check it out in action.

Access and China Telecom in talks to launch CPhone custom Android platform

Man, the Android action in China just keeps heating up: hot on the heels of China Mobile’s OPhone platform debut, we’re hearing China Telecom and Access are in talks to launch a rival called “CPhone.” Just like OPhone, CPhone looks to be a specialized build of Android 1.5 with a custom UI, but instead of OPhone’s KIRF iPhone look, Access seems to have filtered any number of haphazard Samsung UIs through a case or two of Tsingtao and called it a day. The big question right now is whether this one 3.5-inch device is the CPhone or whether Access and China Telecom are looking to launch a range of CPhone devices, but we’re sure to find out more soon.

Is this Sony Ericsson’s Android-powered XPERIA X3?

As always, Mr. Blurrycam isn’t doing us any favors here, but we’re cautiously optimistic that the image you see above is one of the first real glimpses at Sony Ericsson’s forthcoming XPERIA X3. Granted, the WinMo-packin’ X2 is still in its infancy, but every true SE fanboy knows that Android is where it’s at. The skin, which is obviously early in development, is definitely unlike anything we’ve ever seen, and while we can’t make out much about the hardware, the general shape certainly jibes with what we’d expect an X3 to look like. Le0n_Pro’s original post is down there in the read link, but we just couldn’t leave well enough alone; thankfully, he was kind enough to gift us with a gallery’s worth of (admittedly shaky) shots. Dig in!

[Thanks, Le0n_Pro]

Update: Looks like someone actually got ahold of a white version. Real? Fake?

New Android Market finds its way into latest Cyanogen ROM

Can wait to check out the new and improved Android Market slated for inclusion in the upcoming Android 1.6 release? Then it looks like you won’t have to wait for the official release after all. You will, however, need a rooted Android device, and the latest, less-than-official Cyanogen ROM. Among other updates and fixes, it includes what appears to be the very same Android Market revision that’s headlining Android 1.6 (a.k.a. Donut), and includes such enhancements as a bright new look, screenshots of apps, and a number of new browsing options to help you find what you’re looking for. All rooted and ready to go? Then hit up the link below to get started.

RAmos Android event scheduled for next week, mystery MID getting real?

Any time a good conundrum is solved there’s bound to be mixed feelings — and The Case of the Mysterious Android MID was certainly no different. Has it really only been a month? Certainly you remember the affair — how pictures (and eventually video) of this handheld Internet device, running Android, kept popping up all over the place? Well, we were somewhat comforted to discover that it was a Rockchip-powered concept device, although at the same time we felt a little cheated: how dare RAmos flaunt such a thing and fail to deliver? But not so fast! According to a teaser that’s made its way to us on the Internet machine, a press event scheduled for September 25th will feature some combination of: “Android” and “ramos digital.” Whether or not its the Rockchip-powered device we’ve been taunted by remains to be seen, but it’s definitely a fair guess to say that it will be. Besides, RAmos, after Apple’s recent iPod event, we need this.
