“I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I’m not sure which one to get. I don’t want to fall into the hype of the Flip because I worry two hours won’t be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!”

The pocket camcorder arena has blossomed into something of a small giant here recently, with entries from Sony, Samsung, Kodak and Creative flowing in to compete with the Ultra HD. For those of you who’ve laid down the cheddar, why not share your experiences here in order to direct Lulu to making the right choice? Surely you won’t pass on an opportunity to help a fellow nerd. Surely.

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Adam, who is finally looking to make the leap into the money pit known as “the DSLR world.”

“I’m pretty much a complete noob when it comes to camera stuff. My wife loves to take pictures, though. So much so that she literally wore out her first point and shoot camera, and the Kodak Z712 I bought for her less than two years ago is starting to act up as well. To compound the matter, we are expecting our first born sometime next year. I fear the Kodak just isn’t going to cut it any longer. What would be the best starter DSLR to get? She hates missing photo opportunities due to camera ‘lag’ so speed would definitely be at the top of the list. Photo quality and features would be next. Price should be no more than $800 or so. Also, I’m not interested in video capabilities as I would probably get a dedicated device for that.”

Aw, we’ve got love for the noobs, Adam! With Nikon’s D3000 just announced, we figured this was about as good a time as any to get an updated list of responses for this always-popular inquiry. Be sure to let him know if your entry-level DSLR is doing you right, and feel free to drop those congrats / condolences on the kid while you’re at it.

This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Robert, who is sick and tired of using two power supplies, two I/O cables and too much time to accomplish what should be a simple task.

“I commonly need to boot a system from an external disc and take a snapshot of the host system. I also then need to burn a copy of the image to a DVD. While I can do it with two separate external devices, and two power supplies, and two I/O cables, it’d be nice to find a small dual-drive enclosure. It would need to have USB, eSATA, and FireWire. Either slim-line or half-height bay for the optical burner would be fine, and space for either a 2.5- or 3.5-inch hard disc. Any ideas?”

Robert here is outfitting an entire school for a 1:1 laptop program, so needless to say this request is urgent. Any storage junkies out there know of the perfect solution? No short-changin’, alright?

“I’m heading to university next year, and I’ve purchased a MacBook. I’m also taking my four year old desktop, just in case I’m left with no computers when the MacBook is being repaired or whatnot. With only two USB ports on a MacBook, I want a Bluetooth mouse. Budget is about $100, and of course, it needs OS X support. Thanks for the help!”

Think fast! You’ve just stumbled upon this week’s episode of Ask Engadget, and just like those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books from yesteryear, you’ve a few choices here. One is to leave like a coward; another is to really dig in and contribute; and another is to drop some knowledge and send in a question of your own to ask at engadget dawt com. While you ponder which route is best for you, here’s Matthew’s plea:

“There are so many GPS trackers on the market today to choose from. I’m just looking for basic monitoring abilities and decent battery life, and of course I want one that’s as small and discrete as possible. Which is the best one for less than $300?”

No need to confess in comments what you use your own tracker for (trust us, we could narrow it down on our own), but do tell if you’ve found a winner. Bonus points if your module has landed your scandalous SO on a recent episode of Cheaters.
