ESPN3 comes exclusively to Xbox 360

Digg this! The recently relaunched ESPN3 online portal is coming to Xbox 360 , as just announced during Microsoft’s pre-E3 press conference. Trey Wingo and Josh Elliott from SportsCenter are on stage demonstrating with footage from a USC / Ohio State game, and of course it has built in Kinect controller support. 3,500 live sporting events, instant replays, highlights, polls all at your fingertips or by the sound of your voice. The PiP stuff will be familiar to fans who have already indulged online, but with the new control aspects (and of course, HD streaming) it could give a reasonable alternative to the existing channels. The usual requirement of Xbox Live Gold just like Netflix, Facebook, etc. is present, but beyond having a TV provider / ISP that’s signed up for the package, there’s no additional charge.

Update: Wondering if you’ll have access? Check the list of ESPN3 affiliates to see if your ISP is playing ball.

Video Kinect: video chat and stream sharing over Xbox Live and Live Messenger

Xbox Live and Windows Live Messenger are about to meet up in a very personal way — Microsoft has just announced a new video chat service called Video Kinect, which serves as a logical extension of its brand new Kinect voice- and motion-sensing control system. But it’s not just video calling, no sir, you’ll be able to watch movies, news, sports, and the like together with whoever you’re chatting with. Additionally, thanks to a motorized base and a new skeleton-tracking feature, the Kinect unit will also follow users as they move around the room. Yup, not creepy at all.

Microsoft demos new Kinect dashboard and voice control

Digg this! Thought Kinect was just for kicking balls and making a fool of yourself? Oh now, you can now use it to do everything from find your friends and to control media playback. With a wave the Xbox 360 pops into a new Dashboard which you can manage by moving your hands around. It also supports voice control, enabling you to say “Xbox Play” or “Xbox Pause” or, you know, whatever. Easy!

Zune music heads to Xbox 360

It’s not all games and motion control for Microsoft at E3 this year– the company has just announced that the complete library of Zune music is joining the video options already available on the Xbox 360. Details are still a bit light otherwise, but you can rest assured that it’s both Kinect and Bieber compatible.

Update: Microsoft has now at least revealed a few more details, confirming that Zune Pass subscribers will have on-demand, instant streaming access to a full seven million tracks, and that the service will “seamlessly” integrate with the 16,000 music videos already available on Xbox Live — if you own a video, it’ll automatically start playing during the corresponding song.

Kinect in the flesh!

There she blows. Microsoft’s Kinect (formerly known as Project Natal), real at last. Of course this unit isn’t on or doing anything, but it is striking a sexy pose next to some other black Microsoft hardware. Hopefully it’ll have an Xbox 360 Slim to hang out with after this keynote is over!

Sony announcing PS3 bundles with more storage, faster WiFi, and Move?We’re just a day away from Sony’s official press conference at this year’s E3, and CVG has heard rumors from a supposedly reliable source that some refreshed PS3 bundles are on the docket for officialdom. Word is that the new PS3s will pack 802.11n WiFi (up from 802.11b/g currently) and will come in 250 and 500GB flavors. Both bundles are said to be coming with at least one Move controller included, a move (zing!) that Sony had already said it would make, but the word of faster WiFi flies in the face of last week’s FCC filing for new bundles still offering only 802.11b/g. So, will a new 802.11n-equipped model become the standard edition, or does this “industry source” not have a clue? We’ll find out tomorrow.

Update: Looks as if Sony has updated Move’s official online portal with a slew of working titles. Have a peek while we get ready for the full reveal at E3, won’t you? Thanks, Tiaan!

The Vogel TwistDock is a sleek and sexy PS3 docking station that not only keeps cables and controllers neatly organized but also charges them (even when the system is powered down). Available exclusively for the PS3 and PS3 Slim, the TwistDock also adds two extra USB ports, which you can expand to six with the optional 4 USB Hub accessory.

TwistDock pricing has yet to be revealed (that’s to happen this summer), but what’s known is its availability: the holiday season.

TwistDock is the PS3 dock for M. Night Shyamalan fans

Looking for a dock… with a twist? Frankly we weren’t either, but that didn’t stop us from being intrigued by the aptly titled TwistDock for the PS3 from Vogel’s, a docking station for a console that we didn’t think needed one. On the front the TwistDock houses a PS3, either original or Slim, and on the back (here comes the twist) two controllers can be slotted in and charged, shown after the break. There’s also a USB hub for connecting other goods and overall it pledges to keep your layout “clean, stylish and sexy.” That would be lovely progression from our current entertainment center’s “dusty, cluttered and tangly” label. Can it deliver? It’s on display at this year’s E3, and we’ll go see for ourselves.

What you’re looking at is the latest status update to the Xbox MySpace page showing a November release for Microsoft Natal Kinect. You know, just in case you were looking for something to puchase in the run up to the holidays. How much is the big question now.

Update: John was kind enough to ping us and let us know about this mention of a November release date on a UK Microsoft press page, which we also have a picture of below. This would seem to imply it’ll also be hitting Europe before the end of the year, but we’ll find out when the timer on that page hits zero and Microsoft’s second big event of the show kicks off. We’ll be there.

E3 2010: Microsoft Rechristens Project Natal Kinect

Microsoft's Kinect Game Control System

Tonight Microsoft’s Natal graduated from “Project” to product. The controller-free Xbox 360 game system has an official name, Kinect, and a slew of gaming scenarios to use it in. The evening’s eye-popping Cirque du Soleil-infused event, which kicked off the E3 conference in Los Angeles, was short on details but long on eye candy.

Microsoft used the spectacle, held before thousands in USC’s Galen Center, to demonstrate the myriad ways you’ll use the Kinect system. There were scenarios we’ve seen before–like driving and exercise–and other we hadn’t. Performers sat in an elevated living room set (which rotated 360 degrees) and interacted with a virtual tiger, competed in track and field, learned dance moves and even battled Darth Vader. For the latter demonstration, the performer wielded a virtual light saber and used “force” style moves.

Microsoft will officially announced Kinect during tomorrow morning’s press conference (10:30 AM PST, 6-14-10), at which time we should learn pricing availability and game details.

Microsoft largely banned cellphones, cameras and virtually every other kind of electronic device from the event, so my photos and video are sketchy, at best.
