Hulu Plus on Nintendo 3DS

Rejoice Nintendo fans, Hulu Plus is coming to your console of choice… provided you’re up on the latest in Nintendo hardware. Both the Wii and 3DS will be getting access to the streaming service’s vast archives of TV shows and movies some time before the year is out. Though, you shouldn’t expect to see the Galactica popping out of your portable — this is a strictly 2D affair. A software update coming at the end of November will also deliver the ability to record 3D video with the Nintendo handheld (up to ten minutes) or even stitch together stereoscopic images for stop motion animation that jumps out of the tiny screen at you. With both Hulu and Netflix in tow, as well as the ability to create your own content, the 3DS is actually turning into quite a powerful little portable. Kaz Hirai: Sony is ‘in discussions with non-Sony companies’ over PlayStation Suite

Wondering whether Sony’s PlayStation Suite will ever really leave its nest? While the SDK won’t be out until next month, SCE Chairman Kaz Hirai just told us here at AsiaD that this Android-friendly framework’s still open to all other manufacturers, and he emphasized that it “isn’t an ecosystem where we want to keep everything within the Sony family” while pimping the three PlayStation Certified Android devices so far: Xperia Play, Tablet S and Tablet P. Kaz also confirmed that Sony’s currently “in discussions with non-Sony companies to bring them onboard,” but as to when this will come to fruition, the company will make those announcements “when it’s time to go public with it,” so we shall see.

Playstation 3D Display hits shelves November 13, Sony answers your burning questions

We’d imagine come November 13th, the above will be the scene inside many a PS3 owner’s house. That’s when Sony’s hot little 24-inch PlayStation 3D display will officially be available in the US, Canada, Europe and parts of Asia. Sony took to its US PlayStation Blog today with the news, along with a lengthy FAQ to keep your GAS at bay in the meantime. If you’ll recall, the 240Hz 1080p display packs a single set of component inputs, two HDMI 1.4 ports, stereo RCA outputs, a headphone jack, an integrated subwoofer, and of course, 3D-capability with supported titles. For five hundred bucks you’ll get the PS 3D Display, one pair of USB-rechargeable 3D Glasses ($70 for each additional pair), a copy of Motorstorm: Apocalypse and even an HDMI cable. Notably, its fancy (and exclusive) SimulView feature will let two sets of 3D shades grab either the left or right side feed in supported 3D games for a private 2D view. Disappointingly, this puppy isn’t wall-mountable, but hey, that 24-inch panel surely makes it ideal for a desktop setup, no? Netflix Android app adds support for Honeycomb tablets, extends reach to Canada and Latin America

Honeycomb tablet owners have already been able to use Netflix unofficially thanks to some .APKs that have been floating about, but the company has now finally updated the app with some official support for Android 3.x tablets beyond those that shipped with it pre-installed. What’s more, the latest version of the app also brings with it support for Netflix users in Canada and Latin America, who can likewise enjoy some some streaming video on both their Android phones and tablets without the need for a workaround. Verizon’s My FiOS app puts your entire living room under one Android roof

Leaving home is hard, especially when you’ve got a backlog of on-demand movies and TV shows staring at you with big puppy dog eyes. Fortunately, however, Verizon has now come out with My FiOS — a new app for Android users that promises to keep you constantly connected to all your home entertainment systems, and more. Released yesterday, this app allows users to remotely access movies, Flex View TV shows and home automation and monitoring systems directly from their handsets, while managing their accounts and billing via the provider’s built-in customer service tools. Verizon clients can also use My FiOS to control their TVs, DVR players or home phones, and can even access some content straight from their devices. For now, the app is only available on Android 2.1 or above, though Verizon says an iOS version should hit the market “before year-end.” Skim past the break for more information in the full PR, or hit up the source link below to download My FiOS for yourself.

U-verse TV gets social with help from Miso, TV Foundry, Wayvin and BuddyTV Guide

The fact is watching TV has always been social, which of course means it was only a matter of time before technology removed the physical proximity requirement from the mix. We’ve seen said requirement disappear from various content providers and now it’s subscribers to AT&T U-verse’s turn. The initial slew of options include Miso, TV Foundry, Wayvin and BuddyTV Guide. All four let you share what you’re watching while at the same time help you discover new content by being exposed to what your friends are watching. Of course none of them are exactly Facebook and U-verse isn’t anywhere near the most popular content provider in the country, but we’re glad to see someone pushing hard into social TV that moves beyond just sending status updates via our remote.

UK sets analog TV cutoff for October 2012, finally sees a show after US viewers

It’s not that we’re upset UK viewers get to watch series like Luther, Misfits and Bedlam long before they officially air here (or in the case of Doctor Who, hours), but we are finally glad to know how a story ends before they do. In this case, regulators have decided that after analog broadcasting shutoffs have already taken place across much of the region, the final transmitters will go dark next year. Just as occurred here, the unused spectrum will then be auctioned off, while most TV viewers will survive, whether on digital OTA broadcasts, pay-TV or otherwise. We made it through with only one TV shot dead in cold blood, here’s hoping our counterparts across the Atlantic can handle the changeover as smoothly.

Skype / Rdio co-founder’s Vdio service leaks out, pronunciation confirmed

Where does one go after Rdio? Why, Vdio, of course. GigaOm today got some answers about Skype / Rdio / KaZaA co-founder Janus Friis’s upcoming service. First and most foremost, it’s pronounced “Vee-dee-o.” The service is in closed beta at the moment, and will be first made available in the UK. The service will let users watch TV shows and movies — beyond that, we don’t know much, though the company assures us all that it “think[s] people will love using Vdio.” Fair enough. At present, the service’s homepage is cycling through shots of films like A Clockwork Orange and Ghostbusters and TV shows like Justified and Breaking Bad. Not too shabby.

Hulu owners ‘terminate sale process’, won’t sell to anyone

After all the speculation over who would buy Hulu, the company just announced on its blog that the answer is: no one. While that’s been out there as a possibility, it’s still a surprise after Hulu’s long summer. Things started with a surprise bid from Yahoo back in June, followed quickly by an invitation for more offers. Ultimately however, the networks that own the site have decided keeping it to themselves is the best option — we’ll see what that does to its growth and future plans.
