New Archos 5 with Android unboxed, meets its chubby predecessor

The folks at Pocketables have an Archos 5 Internet Media Tablet with Android in house, and after the requisite unboxing they’ve put it up against the older, wiser Archos 5 Internet Media Tablet original. It’s not quite a fair fight, since the Android model shown here has 32GB of flash storage compared to the old IMT’s 250GB HDD (there’s also a HDD option for the new Android tablet, a whopping 500GB), but there are some other notable differences like materials and curves. Thankfully for Archos fans those differences don’t break compatibility with the optional Archos 5 mini dock, and overall the Android model seems to have just a slight bit of “premium” vibe to it.

BlackBerry Storm 2 accessories roll into Best Buy

Silicone skins for the Storm 2 are starting to find their way into shipments destined to Best Buy stores around the country, another solid signal that RIM’s second touchscreen effort is hitting retail sooner rather than later. What we found amusing about this first batch is that the packaging seems conflicted about what to call the thing — 9550, Storm II (as opposed to Storm2 or Storm 2, interestingly), and even the phone’s codename Odin all make appearances front and center. We suppose they’re just trying to make it crystal clear what phone the skin’s intended for, and with leaks going back a solid year, you’ve got to cover all your bases.

Palm Pixi stares GSM in the face, lives to brag about it (update: video!)

Though nothing’s been announced, betting against a GSM version of the Palm Pixi would be a foolish move. There’s certainly no mistaking that “E” for Edge logo and SIM slot beneath the battery in these leaked images from Vietnam (yes, again). Oddly, this particular GSM variant pictured only contains 4GB of internal storage vs. the 8GB model announced for Sprint. Perhaps a prototype limitation only? Let’s hope.

Ooma Telo hits the streets, handset add-on follows next month

We’re not sure how we really feel about Ooma Telo‘s slick new look (pictured on the right). Sure, it might seem more at home with the rest of our generic home electronics compared to the semi-retro original (left) … but is that necessarily a good thing? Either way it’s out now, and at $250 a pop it’s quite a bit more friendly on the wallet than the original Ooma Hub, which retailed for $400 way back when. The big new feature of the Telo is its DECT 6.0 support for working with the upcoming Ooma Telo Handset which will be out next month for $50. Since this is Ooma, all local and long distance calls are free right out of the gate, but a Ooma Premier membership goes for $10 a month and gets you some improved functionality. Two months are included with a purchase of the Telo, and a year subscription gets you a free number porting or a free Telo Handset when it becomes available.

Surely you’re not tired of seeing the BlackBerry Bold 9700 yet are you. A handset described as “the most gorgeous BlackBerry on the planet” in early previews deserves a few more minutes in the spotlight, be it official or not. Vietnamese site tinh te returns with some of the best leaked shots and video we’ve seen to date giving us a crystal clear look at the 9700’s orange AT&T splash-screen, real pleather battery cover, and squircle trackpad. 250GB PS3 Slim spotted at retail in dapper gray box

The new 250 PS3 Slim might be listed “in stock” on Amazon.co.uk, but it’s not arriving until October 6th according to the online retailer. This particular model, however, is up for sale right this instant at some unnamed retail store in Europe — even though it’s hanging out behind a rather messy help desk in this particular shot. Either way, folks in Europe with a hankering for hard drive don’t have long to wait!

Alpha 680 Android netbook spotted, still unavailable

While all the other kids on the block are letting themselves become duly distracted by Google Chrome OS, at least Skytone is still out there in the trenches, fighting to get its Android-powered Alpha 680 netbook to market. Initially it looked like this one would be making the scene sometime this summer, and although this has not come to pass, the OEM (Airis) is still strutting it in front of vendors and threatening us with an eventual release. According to Le Journal du Geek, who managed to get its hands on one and snap plenty of pics, the device is still “not really stable.” (Take your time, guys…) Hit that read link for plenty of glamor shots of the this stark white, 7-inch resistive touchscreen wonder — you’ll be glad you did.

HTC Pure starting to show up in AT&T stores, not for sale just yet

We’ll withhold judgment until we have a far more intimate encounter with the device, but at a glance, the HTC Pure — AT&T’s branded, customized version of the Touch Diamond2 — might carry the least-exciting industrial design of any variant launched thus far. Considering the business-oriented clientele, that might not be a big deal for the phone’s bottom line — but when you take a look at the slightly better-equipped Imagio that’s about to launch over on Verizon, we would’ve liked to have seen something with a little more spunk here. At any rate, it seems Pure units are starting to flow into AT&T retail locations, which inevitably leads to some time in front of the bright lights and camera; AT&T was mentioned as one of Microsoft’s global launch partners for Windows Mobile 6.5 on October 6, so if we connect the dots, we’re guessing this is the phone that’s gonna make it all happen. So where’s that Touch Pro2, then, eh?

Motorola Tao’s photographer zooms out a little, better shot ensues

Now that the Sholes has seemingly been gifted with a less bizarre, less reminds-us-of-a-shoe-insert name, pictures and specs of the so-called Tao are starting to flow en masse — just in time for a possible introduction at next week’s CTIA show out in San Diego (we can only hope, anyway). The first round of in-the-wild shots really didn’t reveal much of anything, but the cameraman has elected to apply just enough wide-angle this time around to give us a full-on view of the high-end Android beast in its closed position — and if this is what we’re going to be getting on Verizon shelves, HTC (and heck, even Moto’s own CLIQ) should be on high alert. So, who’d switch to Verizon for this?

PSP Go found in the wild being sold ahead of October 1st launch date?

Feel free to feign surprise, but seeing how Sony handled the PlayStation 3 Slim’s launch, we kind of expected this. According to an anonymous tipster, at least one Metro Atlanta-area Target store has the PSP Go in stock and is apparently already selling them to (presumably) eager customers. So much for that October 1st street date, but you’re still gonna have to wait until then for all the new digital content. We’ve pinged Sony for more details. In the meantime, anyone else happen upon the new portable during their daily travels?
