SendStation's latest PocketDock is slightly larger than a penny, has much better audio quality than a dime

SendStation has impressed us before with its PocketDock line, back in 2007 releasing a tiny nub to suck audio, video, and even get a USB out from an iPod. The company’s latest, the PocketDock Line Out Mini USB, is far smaller — no bigger than Apple’s own charging plug — yet sports a Mini-USB port for charging and a non-powered 3.5mm line out that enables better quality tunes from your pod when connected to an amplified device. The kit even includes a set of tiny stereo RCA jacks that would like nothing better than to mount the front of your receiver. This latest PocketDock is available right now for $29.95 on the other end of that read link, and we’re told they’ll be showing up in Apple Stores, too.

Sony debuts iPod / iPhone-friendly ALTUS multi-room audio line

We haven’t seen a new S-AIR product since Sony outed a few wireless HTIBs back in March, but it looks as if the outfit is hopping back on that horse with a new line at Best Buy. The ALTUS audio product range gets going with the “premium” ALT-SA31iR multi-room iPod package, which is comprised of an iPod / iPhone docking station and a pair of wireless speakers; it also touts an AM / FM tuner as well as an LCD-equipped S-AIR remote commander. The AIR-SW10Ti iPod docking station adds in a wireless subwoofer, while the ALT-SA32PC multi-room audio package consists of an S-AIR transmitter that connects to one’s PC via USB and a pair of wireless speakers. Finally, the ALT-A33PC package has an identical USB S-AIR transmitter, but includes a universal receiver with analog audio inputs. As for prices? Try $700, $400, $500 and $200 in order of mention, with each up for pre-order today through Sony and on sale in Best Buy locations starting next month.

Logitech dishes two new iPod / iPhone speaker docks, one of them rechargeable

Not quite sure if you’ve noticed, but Logitech has been on a tear for the ages here recently. As the torrent of new gear continues, we’re now faced with another pair of iPod sound systems desperately attempting to knock the “me-too” status and contribute something positive to the world. The Rechargeable Speaker S315i is the larger of the two, boasting a rechargeable battery that’s supposedly good for up to 20 hours of listening. The unit is fully compatible with dock-connecting iPods and iPhones, and there’s even an auxiliary input for those who aren’t down with Cupertino’s wares. The smaller Portable Speaker S125i plays and charges any iPod model and can be powered by an AC adapter, four AA cells or 8.43 tablespoons of Jobs’ favorite fairy dust. Check ’em out this month and next for $129.99 and $69.99, respectively.

Bongiovi-equipped iHome iP1 iPod / iPhone dock finally ships

Remember that totally snazzy iHome iP1 dock that we toyed with back in May? You know, the one with those boyish good looks and a curious Bongiovi Acoustics Digital Power Station chip built in? Yeah, that very iPod / iPhone dock is finally shipping to those willing to splurge, with a buck under $300 bringing you 100 watts of hair-raising rock through a pair of 4-inch woofers and 1-inch silk dome tweeters. Sure, it’s pretty swank for an iPod dock, but can you imagine the fanfare if this thing was Bon Jovi-approved? Bonus footage is after the break.

Have you been searching for just the right kind of iPod / iPhone dock to add a touch of class to your lion’s den? Well Rotaliana has you covered. Onkyo ND-S1 iPod dock feaures digital audio, composite video, and leaves iPhone owners out of luck

We’ve seen plenty from the folks at Onkyo in the past, but until now their iPod accessories have been rather few and far between. That said, we gotta say that this here ND-S1 iPod dock looks pretty, pretty good. Obviously designed with the home entertainment crowd in mind, this guy features optical / coax digital output, composite a/v outs, and supports 16bit audio playback (up to 48kHz). Also on hand are a USB connection for syncing with iTunes and a remote control. Compatible with your iPod classic / nano / touch (sorry iPhone users), you can expect to see this hit the streets sometime this fall. There’s no word yet on price, but you can get a closer look after the break.

Philips HF3490 Wake-up Light is also a bedside lamp, iPod dock

Did you know that waking up by natural light is a lot less stressful than doing it with sound? Yes, apparently your toast tastes better too. Philips has long been a proponent of light alarms and, in an effort to stay hip with the kids, it’s added a detachable iPod / iPhone dock to its latest offering. The HF3490 might never serve as your music station, but it tries hard, bringing an FM radio and some soothing sounds along. With 30 different levels of brightness and a “dusk simulator,” this device has enough tweaking options to ensure you wake up just the way nature intended — with birds chirping and soft sunlight on your pillow, all simulated by futuristically ugly electronics. If you can get over the $199 price, you can pre-order one for delivery on August 22.

JVC’s NX-TC5 iPod dock with motion activated 4.3-inch LCD plays digital TV, not iPod video

Japan’s home to some pretty impressive shelf audio systems given the preponderance of well-mannered neighbors living side-by-side in tiny urban apartments. Today brings another, JVC’s latest addition to its NX-TV series, the 15 x 15 watt NX-TC5. Unfortunately, while the unit sports an iPod dock and 4.3-inch LCD, video playback is limited to its integrated 1Seg digital TV tuner or WMV video stored on USB media — not from Apple’s beloved. It does feature a swiveling front-panel for optimal viewing angle and motion-activated display in addition to 512MB of on-board storage for photos, an AM/FM tuner, and CD player with the ability to rip audio to MD or attached USB stick at 4x speeds. The TC5 is expected to hit Japan in late August for ¥62,000 (about $655) or ¥52,000 (about $549) as model NX-TC3 if you’ve finally kicked the MD habit. Looking pretty in white after the break.

Memorex hears the cry of underserved female gadget hounds, delivers the pink

Memorex recently had a study carried out on its behalf, which found that roughly 70 percent of women feel “underserved” by electronics companies. Women, who buy about 40 percent of electronics, think (according to this study) that most products are made and marketed for men. Memorex ingested that data, and decided to offer up some new options for the ladies… and they came up with a neon pink, purse-shaped iPod dock. The miniMove Boombox would be just another crummy looking piece of gadget noise, had it not come swaddled in such a spate of condescending mumbo jumbo. Kasia van Hall (a woman!) of Memorex told the Times of London that “women want to know about technology, but only just enough to get a taste of it,” adding that the majority “simply don’t have time or energy to read long instructions and play with cables.” The device, in similar, less-pink form, has been on shelves since last December.

Now, it’s true, we of the Engadget nerdom are possibly in the minority, but it seems like a crappily designed iPod dock painted pink is hardly the answer to the conundrum of women’s gadget needs. Then again, we have been known to try to insert our BlackBerry into the VCR. Were we not supposed to do that? The miniMove Boombox will be available in the next two weeks in the UK for a totally cute £59 (that’s $96 for all you mathematically-challenged gals).

Sony’s newest remote control ships with a Z200iR compact music system (updated)

It’s not often that a remote control becomes the centerpiece of a product launch, but man, would you look at that. That’s the remote for Sony’s NAS-Z200iR, a WiFi-enabled shelf audio system with slot-loading CD and iPod dock. The Z200iR is DLNA-certified so it works with any DLNA device in your home including NAS boxes and of course, your PC or Mac. The re-chargeable remote features a 3.5-inch LCD display that gives you full control over sourced media including Internet radio, integrated AM/FM tuner, or devices connected via the Z200iR’s USB or audio-in ports. The sound comes courtesy of a pair of independent, 20-watt speaker enclosures with double neodymium magnets used to drive the bass. A simpler, WiFi-less CMT-Z100iR system will launch first in July with the Z200iR headed to Europe in mid September. Sorry, no prices announced so no joy.

Update: Ready for the pricing? The German press release has the Z200iR at €699. That’s nearly $1,000 for a compact sound system that sits on a shelf. Way to go Sony, way to go.
