Nokia CEO Stephen Elop is currently on stage at MWC in Barcelona, and he’s had a few choice things to say about the recent announcement that Nokia will partner with Microsoft to create devices which run Windows Phone software. Elop told the crowd assembled there that Nokia’s “first priority is beating Android,” and he also took a moment to let everyone know that Nokia is not interested in being the only company producing Windows Phones — countering some recent exclusivity chatter. Ford just made industry history by being the first major auto manufacturer to unveil a new model at CES, the Focus Electric. But we already knew it would. What we didn’t know were the details of the thing, but now we have them. And a lot of pretty pictures. Ford is saying the car will manage a range of 100 miles and that it will offer an MPGe rating (a conceptual equivalency of miles per gallon for an electric or otherwise non-traditionally powered car) higher than the Volt and comparable to the Leaf, but crucially it’s saying that it can be recharged on a 240 volt outlet in four hours or less. The Leaf can take up to seven hours with the same amount of current — though of course CHAdeMO support there handily trumps that. Remember our good friends from AirStash at last year’s CES? Well, this year they’re back with the same wireless storage dongle, but now bolstered with a new firmware and smarter ways of transferring files to and from your mobile devices. As before, the AirStash is essentially an SD card reader that can be accessed as an ordinary USB storage device, or a basic read-only file server via WiFi tethering, meaning the host device doesn’t require a card reader or a USB host. Upon requests from many users, AirStash is now finalising an HTML5-based web app and a free native iOS app, both of which offer in-app image browsing and media streaming, including HD videos and Apple DRM content on iOS (associated with the appropriate Apple ID, of course).

What really surprised us was the claim that the AirStash’s minuscule 600mAh cell can do streaming for around five hours, regardless of the media type. That said, we were only given a demo with a standard-definition video clip, and even that took about 25 seconds to buffer over 802.11g WiFi, so you can imagine how many sunsets you might see while waiting for an HD clip to load. With about a full month away from release, AirStash thinks it can push the loading speed up in time for launch, so we shall see. Read on to see the other new features.

In case a liveblog and a never-ending stream of Windows Phones weren’t enough for you yesterday, here’s a chance to relive Microsoft’s launch presentation of its grand OS redesign. It’s kicked off by the big dog himself, Steve Ballmer, followed by Ralph de la Vega and Joe Belfiore giving us the lowdown on carrier pricing and new features. It’s good, we promise. Though we can’t guarantee it’s quite as awesome as the UK presentation, which included a Stephen Fry soliloquy on the subject of smartphones, diversity, and Microsoft’s redemption. That one we’ve got stored in our hearts, which, regrettably, don’t yet come with a HDMI output. Video after the break.

Can’t get enough PlayBook in your life? We understand how it is. After all, it’s not every day that you hear of ultraslim 7-inch tablets that promise to take your BBM life to another level. RIM must sympathize with your eagerness as well, since it’s now made its Devcon 2010 keynote available for streaming online — replete with Mike Lazaridis’ impassioned speech about a “no compromise” tablet that’s enterprise-ready, multimedia-friendly, and even comes with “a full gigahertz of RAM” (19 minutes into the video). It’s stirring stuff, and you might even learn a bit more about the QNX-built BlackBerry Tablet OS underpinning the whole thing. The source link is where you’ll find the full 142-minute show.
