Keepin' it real fake: the Haina X5-01 KIRFs the Kin One

Microsoft’s Kin moved so quickly from curiosity to cadaver that we’ve almost managed to forget about the thing already, but one group will always remember: the KIRFers. This model is called the Haina X5-01 and it’s something of an ode to Microsoft’s less than dearly departed Kin One handset, a direct copy of the hardware we actually found to be somewhat derivative itself. This model, however, merrily leaps right over the line between imitation and clone, even stealing one of Microsoft’s sample images of the UI. Thanks to that we don’t actually have any real screenshots of what OS the thing is running, but something tells us that whatever ROM it’s rocking it won’t be nearly as adept at keeping up with our chaotic lives.

Keepin’ it real fake: white MacBook with dual batteries, other things you never knew you needed

Here at KIRF headquarters, we’ve seen our share of Apple product fakery. We remain, however, impressed at companies’ abilities to knock off laptops in any decent manner. This white MacBook-looking fellow, made by LeThink, boasts a feature or two you’ll probably never see on an actual Cupertino-born laptop, such as the option of two batteries. This bad boy boasts a tray loading DVD player, an NVIDIA Ion 2 graphics processor, a 1.66GHz Intel Atom D510 CPU, GMA 3150 graphics, 1GB of RAM built-in (with support for up to 2GB), an up to 320GB hard drive, two USB 2.0 ports, VGA and HDMI outputs, a LAN port, and an SD slot. They’re available in China for starting prices of around 2,999 yuan — that’s about $440. Another shot is below.

BleckBarry raises the bar for KIRFs, casually crawls under it

BleckBarry! This is the handset that puts the “phone” in smartphone but, sadly, leaves out the “smart.” Featuring a 2-inch display, Bluetooth, a whopping 506KB internal memory, FM and TV (with antenna!), and all the dual SIM action your heart can take, this $62 wonder does one thing well: it makes the BlockBerry look great in comparison.

Keepin’ it real fake: the affordable, off-contract Nokia Booklet 3G you’ve been waiting for, maybe

It may not be the most timely KIRF we’ve seen, but it looks like folks that were taken with the Nokia Booklet 3G’s design but not its high, on-contract price will soon have the device they’ve been waiting for — sort of. While its 3G-ness is still in question, this as yet unnamed netbook does pack a 10.1-inch, 1,024 x 600 display, along with an Atom N450 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, a non-removable battery, and “maybe” an HDMI output. Still no word on an exact price or release date, but M.I.C Gadget expects it to be “at most” 2,000 yuan, or just under $300.

[Thanks, Chris]

Keepin’ it real fake: N-KIA E68 shows what an innovative Nokia handset might look like (video)

Yo Nokia, you can keep your E5 and its HD Voice fanciness, we want ourselves an N-KIA E68. Why, we hear the enraged Nokia acolyte ask, why would we defile Nokia’s good name in such a manner? Mostly because this phone has one of the most fun and ingenious slider mechanisms we’ve seen yet. So what if we’ve got no idea what wannabe OS it’s running and so what if it’ll most likely fall apart on us a month into owning it? We still want one, dammit! Video after the break.

[Thanks, Derrty]

Keepin’ it real fake: Dyson’s Air Multiplier gets ripped off, multiplied a few more times

We never really understood the value proposition behind Dyson’s (admittedly boisterous) Air Multiplier, but that’s mostly due to the $300+ MSRP. Cut that back to right around $40, and you just might have us singing a different tune. Thanks to the wonders of KIRFing, Dyson’s bladeless fan has seen itself duped and multiplied over in China, with a 10-inch version now selling for just $41.05 so long as you buy ten or more units. Abiko seems to the company hawking the knockoffs, with its version reportedly “indistinguishable from the original.” So, what’s it going to be? The real deal? Or the real deal?

Update: Dyson requested that we add this comment, so we’re more than happy to present you with it. “The Dyson Air Multiplier[TM] fans were launched in 2009 after four years of research and development. A team of specialist Dyson engineers have refined and patented the technology: illegal copies are of significantly inferior quality. Dyson rigorously defends its intellectual property and treats any infringement very seriously. Dyson is taking legal action against anyone who copies its technology.”

Fake Nexus One browsing fake Engadget

Interesting side note — we understand that Erick Schmidt, Larry Paige, and Serge Brin all own this phone. Oh, and Digiboy777, of course.

Palm Pre fake tires of waiting for webOS 2.0, takes up iOS and BlackBerry OS lookalikes instead

We feel your pain: you love your BlackBerry at work and your iPhone for personal use, but as hardware goes, nothing gets your motor running quite like the Pre’s pebble-esque shell. Trust us, we’ve all been there! Well, a new clone out of China seeks solve all your technological woes by combining an iOS-inspired user interface and the Pre’s body — with an iPhone home button thrown in for good measure, of course — and when the time comes to throw on the suit and tie and head to work, you can switch the UI over to BlackBerry mode. As far as we can tell, it still functions like an iOS clone here, but at least the skin will remind you of the good ol’ Bold days. Looks like you can’t buy this thing online, but considering how well the software works in most of these things, it’s probably for the best.

Keepin’ it real fake: a Moto Droid for WinMo diehards

Being able to combine the best of both worlds is something of a shanzhai strong suit. Unfortunately, we don’t see conjuring up a Droid with Windows Mobile 6.5 as the best of both worlds. As for the phone itself, it holds up pretty well, with a 533MHz Huawei Hass K3 processor, 256MB memory, 3 megapixel camera, 3.5-inch (800×480) display, dual SIM cards (GSM 900 / 1800) , and the usual GPS, WiFi, and FM receiver. But is it as mind-bending as an iPhone that runs Android? We’ll let you be the judge of that. Get a closer look after the break.

Nokia N9: the MacBook Pro Phone

Look, if there’s one thing Nokia knows it’s how to build hardware. Say what you want about the S60 user experience, the latch on the N97 is a mechanical masterpiece. But how could we resist sharing this image, posted by a reader in comments, of the presumed Nokia N9 “sitting on” a MacBook Pro? What was it that Anssi Vanjoki said? Something like, “If there is something good in the world then we copy with pride.”
