ASUS Eee PC 1201N dons burgundy garb, you still can’t have one

Say hello to the little friend you already know and want, this time dressed in a more extrovert red attire. We don’t yet know whether this 1201N variant will be finding retail shelves or if it’s just a pretty prototype, but that doesn’t make too much difference at this point. With the classical black model still only available on a pre-order basis (with a mid-January landing date) the closest you’ll be getting to ASUS’ Ion-powered 12-incher is glamor shots like these. Well, either that or a forthcoming Engadget review, both are good. See one more snap of the burgundy bruiser after the break.

Gigabyte’s M1305 ad campaign says docking a laptop is like picking your nose

External graphics cards may well be a rarity these days, but we’re not sure if this simple fact justifies the launch of a grotesque and debatably heinous ad campaign. As you can so clearly see above, Gigabyte disagrees. In order to promote its Taiwanese M1305 CULV laptop cum external graphics card dock (housing an NVIDIA GeForce GT220 desktop VGA card), it released posters featuring a disoriented person poking his / her nose, each of which were presumably in the process of “doing some soul searching.” Curious as to what these ads actually say? “How good is an expansion dock with integrated graphics card? Plug in a Gigabyte laptop and you’ll find out!” Thanks, but no thanks Gigabyte — we’re currently preoccupied with flushing our memories of this visual disturbance you’ve just forced upon us.

Psst… two more posters after the break for extra raunchiness!

[Thanks, TheLostSwede]

Acer’s Ferrari One netbook now available — might not help you get a date

You’re probably already fairly familiar with Acer’s foray into speedy netbooks with the the Ferrari One — the 11.6-incher we found to be slightly underwhelming when we got our hands on it back in September. Still, the famous branding and the red hot lid is sure to be a draw for some, and other than that, this laptop boasts an 1.2GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 CPU, an AMD M780G chipset, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200 graphics, plus WiFi, Bluetooth, optional WWAN and a 6-cell battery. It’ll run you about $600 to grab one up and it’s available now. Full press release is after the break.

Dell Vostro V13 is $450, .65 inches thick, available ‘worldwide’ today (update: video!)

You had to know Dell’s comically secretive product launch strategy would eventually break down, and here we go: although the company is teasing an “unnamed $450 Vostro” to US media, Dell Singapore has just gone ahead and launched the thing officially as the Vostro V13, complete with specs. Oops. While Dell PR tries to put out that fire, we can dance in the rubble and tell you that Dell’s putting everything it learned building the Adamo XPS to some more practical use in the .65-inch thick, sub-3.5-pound V13, which packs either a 1.2GHz Celeron, 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo or 1.4GHz Core 2 Solo with integrated X4500MHD graphics under that 13.3-inch screen. Sure, the design isn’t as wild as the Adamo XPS, but the extra thickness means that it can accommodate an Ethernet port, along with eSATA, USB, an SD card slot and even a freaking ExpressCard slot. All this for just a confirmed US$450 on the low end? Okay, sign us up. Hit the Dell Singapore link for more pics and a nice 360-degree view.

Update: Added a video after the break so you can hear Dell pitch the V13 direct.

Update 2: It’s now official in America, starts at $449 and can be had “worldwide” starting today.

[Thanks, Daniel]

Aspire Timeline 1820PT convertible twists its way onto Acer’s US site

Wanting yourself a good old fashioned convertible tablet PC? We’ve seen Acer’s Aspire Timeline 1820PT hit Australia a little under a month ago, and now the US audience is getting its first telltale sign of 1820PT acceptance. The laptop now has itself a product page on the official stateside product page. No price or release date, unfortunately, but at least we know it’s on the near horizon.

[Thanks, SaintAndrew]

ASUS UL30Vt now available at Amazon

Remember just a while back when we told you that you could pre-order the ASUS UL30Vt over at Amazon if you so wished? Well, it’s actually, really available and shipping now. The Windows 7 Home Premium-boasting 13-incher is part of ASUS‘s thin and light line — with looks we’re quite fond of. It’s also packing switchable graphics, DDR3 memory, and a 1.3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 CPU which can be overclocked. This baby is selling for $799 and it’s in stock now, so if you want one — well, you know where to find it.

[Thanks, Leonel]

Dell Vostro 1015 now on sale in America: starts at $429

Wait a second — a business-centric laptop… with style? Dell‘s 15.6-inch Vostro 1015, which was announced alongside the still-unavailable (in the US, anyway) Vostro 1014 and Vostro 1088 back in August, has just emerged for purchase, and the relatively attractive case and low starting price definitely has our attention. Granted, the $429 base model gets saddled with a 2.2GHz Celeron 900 processor, but $629 buys you a 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo T6670, Windows 7 Professional, 3GB of DDR2 RAM, a 320GB (5400RPM) hard drive, dual-layer DVD burner, 2 megapixel webcam, integrated WiFi, GMA 4500MHD graphics and a 6-cell battery. Anyone down for stroking their inner suit?

[Thanks, Peter]

Dell Precision M6500 mixes Core i7 with business savvy

In typical Dell style, the new Precision M6500 17-inch workhorse laptop has shown up on the company’s website with nary a peep of self-congratulatory PR from Round Rock. Notable as the successor to the well-juiced M6400 and its even gaudier Covet variant, the M6500 boasts wallet-busting specs like a Core i7-920XM allied to a maximum of 16GB DDR3 memory speeding along at 1,333MHz, a choice of ATI FirePro M7740 or NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800M workstation graphics chips, support for up to three storage devices with optional RAID configurations, and a 1920 x 1200 LED-backlit display. The machine is not quite yet available to purchase, meaning it’s safe to go beyond the read link without fearing any heart-stopping sticker shock.

[Thanks, Jonty]

MacBook Air meets bus, bus wins

Struggling to find a little something to be grateful for on this day of Thanksgiving? How about the fact that this isn’t your laptop? While details are a tad sketchy, it seems that the owner of this MacBook Air somehow let his prized possession slip under a bus, which promptly drove right over it. Amazingly, the Air does apparently still work (apart from a little issue with the screen), although it’s pretty clear that the bus came out ahead in this match-up. Hit up the link below for a few more pics.

Lenovo’s Snapdragon smartbook gets Android, pictured properly (Updated)

That’s right, sailor, Qualcomm has been dishing some more info on the future of smartbooks, and we now know that the Lenovo number we noticed being teased earlier this month will be driven by a vanilla copy of Google’s Android OS. Other data of import includes a purported battery life of more than eight hours and always-on connectivity through 3G (provided by AT&T in the US), WiFi and “other radios,” all of which should go nicely with that 1GHz Snapdragon chip under the hood. If you ask us, and you should, this looks like the perfect candidate for a bit of USB-mounted Chrome OS glory.

Update: Lenovo’s PR team contacted us to clarify that the above device, although strikingly similar to the Lenovo machine (possibly a reference design), is a separate, Quanta-manufactured smartbook that was on display at a Qualcomm event last week. Nevertheless, it could still end up bearing Lenovo regalia, given that Quanta produces the IdeaPad line.
