LG Xnote P510 laptop hands-on

We felt a bit out of place when waltzing into LG’s very business like booth, and while we were absolutely devoid of suit and tie, we weren’t unappreciative of all the beauty seen here on the Xnote P510. First spotted just under a month ago, this here lappie is an immediate eye-catcher in person. The entire palm rest of made of a rubberized material (trackpad included), and there’s even a vibration function to provide noticeable feedback in the pad if you’re into that sort of thing. The build was sturdy, the keys were delightful to touch and the flush trackpad was simply luscious. In case you couldn’t tell, we were nearly booted from the booth from drooling all over the demo unit. We still couldn’t pry out a price, but we overheard one of those aforementioned suits bragging to his buddy that he’d have one “next month.” Grab a tissue and jump down to the gallery below.

Hands-on: ASUS’ Lamborghini VX5 laptop

While it was admittedly difficult to turn our attention away from ASUS’ Dual Panel touchscreen PC, we couldn’t help but notice its latest Lamborghini-inspired machine. The newly announced VX5 was on display here at CeBIT, sporting a 1TB SSD, leather panel rests, that iconic Lamborghini logo and a few chrome accents to boot. Oh, and take our word for it — that leather was supple. Real supple.

ASUS slaps 1TB SSD within Lamborghini VX5 laptop

We’re just now wrapping our heads around that 1TB SSD that pureSilicon launched in January, and already ASUS is looking to place us back in a state of disbelief with its newfangled Lamborghini VX5 laptop. Said machine, which is slated to debut tomorrow alongside a litany of other products here in Hannover, will sport a 1TB SSD, a Core 2 Quad CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 16-inch “Full HD” display. You’ll also find a GeForce GT 130M graphics card with 1GB of GDDR3 memory, an illuminated “chiclet” style keyboard and a Blu-ray optical drive to boot. Needless to say, this one’s aimed at those not fazed by stratospheric price tags, and we’re saying that well before the MSRP has been made public. Call it a hunch… or just superb deductive reasoning.

Dell’s Inspiron 1410 spec bump is too mild to notice

Okay, so maybe the newest Inspiron 1410 internals are something to celebrate if you’re really looking for low-end, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a real tech enthusiast that’s jazzed about a 2GHz Core 2 Duo T6400 processor within a 14-inch laptop. At any rate, the aforementioned machine has been juiced (we’re being liberal here) with 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a 14.1-inch WXGA display, 250GB of hard drive space, a DVD burner, Intel’s GMA X3100 graphics, 802.11b/g WiFi and a sweet, colorful lid. Oddly enough, both the customize and buy links are currently dead, so it looks like you’ll need some patience in order to buy one without talking to an actual human.

[Thanks, jediclinto]

HP quietly updates Pavilion dv7t gaming laptop

While HP’s dv7t provides a much more subtle way to game on-the-go compared to say, the HDX crew, we don’t see the necessity in keeping these updates all hush-hush. For whatever reason, it seems that said laptop has been updated overnight from 17- to 17.3-inches (we’re talking LCD size, by the way), and the NVIDIA graphics option has been replaced with a pair of ATI selections: the 512MB Mobility Radeon HD 4530 and 1GB HD 4650. The newfangled 17.3-inch panel sports a somewhat deflating 1,600 x 900 native resolution, though there is good news to be shared. The previous $1,229 starting point has dropped to a decidedly more manageable $799.99, though it’ll cost you extra to equip this beast with the 2GHz Core 2 Quad CPU that it really deserves.

[Thanks, Johnny and Coal]

hannamo.gif

If you’re wishing you were in New Orleans partying on Fat Tuesday, take your mind off of it with these fun deals. Check out Gearlog’s finds for Tuesday, February 24:

1. I guess if you’re Dell, you don’t have to have a 1-day-sale, a 4-hour-sale is enough. Starting today at 2 p.m. CT, Dell is having a 4-hour sale on laptops. Which laptops are on sale? Well, until the sale starts, it’s a mystery to us too. Check out the sale, but make sure you get there in the 4-hour window: The sale ends at 6 p.m. CT.

2. If you’ve been a member of the Best Buy Reward Zone program since at least February 21, then you’re in luck. You can save up to $100 off of an iPhone 3G this week. Here’s the deal: if you’re a regular Reward Zone member, you can save $50 on select iPhone 3G, including the 8GB and 16GB models; if you’re a Premier Silver member (which apparently costs money to be a member), you can save $100 on those models. So, if you happen to fit any of those classifications, than make sure to get over to Best Buy before the sale ends on February 28.

3. LeapFrog is having a sale on gift packs. Save up to 40 percent off of select gift packs, and receive free shipping. Get the Didj Hanna Montana gift pack for $89, down from $152. It includes a pink Didj custom gaming system, pink customization kit, carrying case, and Hanna Montana Learning Game.

4. Finally, all geeks need to eat, right? For today only, Jack in the Box is offering two free tacos if you print this coupon.

The Gateway MD7801u: Media-Center Sweetness, for Less

Gateway_MD7801U Value Media Center Laptop

Today I took the Gateway MD7801u notebook, which Cisco Cheng recently reviewed for PCMag.com, out for a spin. There’s a lot to like about it–in styling, performance, and certain features such as its cavernous (500GB) hard drive. Even better, you get it for a surprisingly affordable price for what it offers.

I’d never have guessed that this was an $800 laptop. A media-center machine, the MD7801u’s 15.6-inch glossy widescreen (at 1,366-by-768 resolution) is in the 16:9 format that’s become prevalent in recent laptops, and it displayed photos and video well. Photoshop was very responsive, bearing out the MD7801’s quite respectable multimedia performance scores in our Photoshop (as well as Cinebench R10 and Windows Media Encoder) tests.
