32GB iPhone placeholder appears at T-Mobile Austria

Take it for what it’s worth (which may be nothing, quite honestly), but a bona fide “iPhone 32GB” placeholder has appeared in the ‘Coming Soon’ section on T-Mobile Austria‘s website. Generally speaking, we wouldn’t give this kind of slip too much credence, but considering that a similar slip at T-Mobile Germany was accurately foretelling two years ago, we’re cautiously optimistic that all those rumors of a more capacious iPhone are legitimate. We hate to remind you that loads of smoke generally leads to fire, but hey, June 8th ain’t too far off anyway. Larger screen cap (of the translated-to-English site) is just past the break.

Update: Seems the admin yanked the 32GB iPhone from the page — oopsie!

Update 2: Looks like Vodafone Australia has sent out a notice that the 16GB iPhone has been deemed “End of Life” by Brightpoint, who supplies its iPhones. Are you thinking what we’re thinking?

Pentax K-7 hands-on shots leak out

Poor Pentax. The company’s just three days away from the much-hyped May 21 launch of the K-7, and here we’ve already seen specs and press pics, and now we’ve got a whole slew of hands-on shots. Just as we’d heard before, the K-7 will pack a 14.6 megapixel sensor with a 720p movie mode and a 3-inch VGA display in a body just a hair smaller than the K200D. Of course, we’re really wondering how this guy’ll be priced — if it comes in around $1000, it’ll be a solid competitor to the Canon Rebel T1i and the Nikon D5000. Guess Pentax still has one surprise in store, eh? Tons more pics at the read link.

[Thanks, Rye]

Slim PS3 update: mysterious Chinese firm issues a cease and desist… to Engadget

You know, one of these days, someone at one of these big companies is going to get this right. If you send a cease and desist about “leaked” photos of a supposed device, you’re basically saying, “Hey guys, those pictures are real.” Now, we can’t tell you with 100 percent assurance that that’s the case when it comes to those factory pics of rubber-gloved hands all over an apparently-new PS3 hardware design, but it doesn’t help anyone’s case when a Chinese company sends your Japanese wing a takedown notice. Keep in mind, since this thing isn’t from Sony, we can’t really be sure that it’s the real deal, but we’ll be honest — things are starting to look mighty suspicious. Text of one of the charming messages after the break. We’ll pause for comment now.

This next item is for all of you DSLR fiends who are champing at the bit in nervous anticipation of the revamped Sony Alpha 230, 330, and 380 DSLRs that were subject to some leakage a week or so ago. Exclusive BlackBerry Storm 2 shots!

What’s this we have here? A trusted source just hit us with a slew of beauty shots of the Storm 2 that leaked a little bit ago. Not much else to say at this point until we can get one in our hands — the photos really speak for themselves. But seriously, what are you still doing here? Get over to the gallery and see all the tasty (and frankly, familiar) shots!

[Thanks, BBninja1389]

BlackBerry Storm 2 gets pictured early

We knew it was coming, and just like its relatives the Onyx and the Gemini, yet another unreleased model has managed to escape the confines of RIM’s Waterloo headquarters. This time, however, it’s the Storm 2, which we’ve heard has been internally codenamed “Oden.” We’ve also caught wind that this model pictured is of the GSM flavor, and yes, it’s indeed packing WiFi in addition to GPS according to one of our sources. As far as that rumored “new approach to text entry,” it sounds like the keyboard has been tweaked but isn’t a radical departure from the first generation. From the photos, it seems that RIM has advanced in the war on buttons and axed the bottom four in favor of some touch-sensitive controls. The real improvements, however, appear to be under the hood, as the whole device reportedly runs much faster and smoother than the current model. We can’t confirm these specs, but with the Tour coming this summer, and the Storm 2 hopefully making an appearance before the holiday shopping season, looks like you Verizon BlackBerry fans might not have to be that jealous of your GSM brethren after all. One more pic after the break.

Intel shows Larrabee die shot in Germany, speculators go berserk

It’s been right around a century since Intel has provided any sort of hard evidence that Larrabee (a next-gen hybrid CPU / GPU) was more than a figment of anyone’s imagination, but thanks to a die shot throw up Will Ferrell-style at the Visual Computing Institute of the Saarland University, we’d say the speculation is definitely back on. Intel’s Chief Technology Officer, Justin Rattner, was responsible for the demo, but when PC Perspective pinged the company to inquire further, it suggested that the image we see above may not necessarily be indicative of the final shipping product, but that Larrabee was “healthy and in [its] labs right now.” Sweet, so how’s about a date in which that statement changes to “in shipping machines right now?” Hmm?

Wild and slim PS3 redesign caught on camera?

Not that the original was any sort of tame, but some new, incredibly grainy leaked shots of a PS3 “slim,” if they prove legitimate, point to a pretty wild redesign in store for the console in the near future — not to mention what would be one of the smallest Blu-ray devices we’ve seen yet. There seem to be a lot of similarities to the Slimline PS2, while still holding onto that curvature the PS3 is so well known for, and even squeezing in a slot-loading disc drive and 120GB hard drive. Of course, Sony has issued a pretty strong denial of existing PS3 slim rumors, stating that “We currently don’t have any plans for a redesigned PS3 at this time,” but that’s a pretty common way for Sony to deal with rumors, no matter which way they fall. We’ll probably have to wait until E3 to learn the real truth, but it’s a good bet this won’t be the last true or false rumor to hit about a real or fake console in the run-up to the show. At least this one’s packing pictures.

Palm Pre “real reviewer” units going out? Not so fast.

There’s been a lot of chatter on both blogs and forums as of late stating that those “real reviewer” units Palm was promising to prospective owners — essentially “everyman critics” — would be sent out some time this week. In fact, some folks have even been spouting off that they’ve received their devices (see the magic above, and one of the source photos which has been cropped and blurred after the break). Well here’s the deal: those units aren’t going out to “real reviewers” before they get into the hands of fake reviewers… namely, the press. In the words of a source at Palm:

We clearly said “we’ll provide you with a current-model phone and data-plan service for six months” and Pre only once it is available, we never said they would get early Pre units.

So, that’s something to consider before you jump the gun on the next Twitpic blast from Joe the Reviewer (though in this particular forum poster’s defense, he did recant). Still, the whole tone leading up to the Pre launch is starting to feel a bit chaotic — we know Palm has to pull the trigger soon, and we’ve heard lots of totally believable rumors, but it is beginning to feel like anything might happen. The basic question we’re turning over in our minds right now is this: does Palm know how to do this right?

12-inch MSI U200 thin-and-light appears a day early?

Well, well, look what we’ve got; a new CULV-based thin-and-light laptop from MSI. The image comes by way of Engadget Chinese whose trusted source lays out the following specs: a 12-inch, 1366 x 768 pixel LED-backlit display, with GMA 4500M integrated graphics, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, 2GB of DDR2 memory, and 250GB disk all wrapped up in a bigger-than-a-netbook but not-quite-a-laptop chassis weighing just 1.4-kgs (3-pounds) with paltry 3-cell battery. We expect pricing to be announced tomorrow but we’ll bet dollars to doughnuts that it’ll be about $700.
