TAG Heuer’s Tesla Roadster gets pictured on the road

The good people of Tesla couldn’t leave us with just stock studio photography of their new TAG Heuer special edition vehicle, oh no. They’ve treated us to a full gallery of the car out on the road, sporting its new regalia and that radical paintjob with pride. To remind you, the only special thing about this edition is indeed that TAG Heuer has reskinned its exterior, while a center console mount for a Meridiist phone and room for a Limited Edition Stopwatch can be classified as product placements for the crowd who’d buy things just because there’s an allotted space for them. Anyhow, a couple more pictures await after the break (sans that silly flare on the Tesla logo above) or you can hit the source for the full experience.

4N wristwatch delivers digital time in a mechanical fashion

Given how simple we’ve made timekeeping over the years, it was inevitable that luxury watches would have to move into more esoteric lands in order to exude the appropriate sense of wonder when witnessed by those who can’t afford them. You might call that the Xperia Pureness effect. Ergo, quite aside from its platinum or 18-carat gold construction options, the 4N watch tries to grab the spotlight with its quirky disc-based mechanism, which rotates numbers (four numbers, hence 4N) into position to display a digital readout of the time. The fact that all three discs — built out of aluminum or a titanium alloy — and the MVT01 movement are exposed to the eye earns geek cred from us, while the limited run of only 16 units should ensure the desired exclusivity for the watches’ future owners. As the old saying about price goes, if you have to ask, you can’t afford one.

Porsche 918 Spyder concept is the most beautiful hybrid we’ve ever seen

Um, we’re sure there’s something sensible to be said about this Porsche concept, but we’re not altogether capable of coherent expression at present. We want to own one of these so badly, we don’t even care if it has an engine. And boy does the 918 Spyder have an engine. A 3.4-liter V8 petrol burner is combined with electric motors to put out 500bhp, while featuring the mind-altering acceleration to go from a standing start to 62mph in just 3.2 seconds. Topping out at 198mph and offering a very respectable 78mpg fuel economy, this is pretty much the stuff dreams are made, which is quite naturally why you shouldn’t expect to see it in any purchasable form any time soon. If you do care to see more of it, however, you can do so at the Geneva Motor Show this year or just past the break, the choice is yours.

[Thanks, Zach]

MSI Launches GE600 laptop for gamers who need ‘low-keyed luxury and nobleness’

MSI Launches GE600 laptop for gamers who need 'low-keyed luxury and nobleness'We try not to single out auto-translated press releases that have funny phrases in them, but when your English missive promises a laptop with “low-keyed luxury and nobleness,” well, it’s hard to ignore. That’s what’s on the docket with MSI’s GE600, a gaming and general entertainment machine that’s been given a (rather subtle) golden hue for the luxe crowd. More importantly it features a discrete ATI Radeon HD5730 video card with 1GB of memory and DirectX 11 compatibility, Intel Core i5 processors, up to 500GB of storage, and a 720p-capable webcam. At 2.7kg (5.95lbs) it’s not the lightest machine, but few DX11-compatible notes are exactly svelte these days. No word on price or availability, but we’re going to go ahead and guess it’ll cost less than other golden portable offerings.

Coco de Mer Candle-Lit Luxury Chocolates

With the chocolate-giving season coming up, I suppose it’s appropriate that we’re talking a lot about chocolate this week!

I had wanted to write about Coco de Mer last year when I had a chance to taste it before it came out. Even though I’m not really a huge consumer of sweets, it was the combination of great packaging and (of course) taste that made it memorable.

These handmade, organic chocolates are the result of a lot of effort condensed into five small pieces. Each $35 set comes stylishly packed in an extremely high-quality, surprisingly heavy, box with great design. Of course, five pieces for two people means that there may be a little skirmish over the last one!

The latest incarnation is ready for a romantic evening at home all in one $50 “Afterglow” set (shop link). After enjoying the chocolates over some libations, the included candles fit right into each spot perfectly for some candle-lit ambiance.

Luxury isn’t dead in Japan, but it’s certainly more niche. You can’t just get away with selling high-end chocolates on their own, but the combination of great packaging and added-value make for a much more interesting product.

Versace working on a phone for some reason

Pull off another successful million-dollar pump and dump? Did Daddy’s $60,000 monthly allowance check just clear? Vertu a little too bourgeois for you these days? If you answered “oui” to at least one of the above, Versace’s upcoming bespoke handset might be just for you. Created in close partnership with matriarch Donatella Versace, it turns out that the company behind the project is the very same that brought both TAG Heuer’s and Christian Dior’s phones to market in the past — France’s ModeLabs — but this new model is said to outstrip the Dior’s sticker price of €3,500 (about $5,040) by some probably outrageous margin. The hot mess of rare earth metal, leather, and jewels is set for a private VIP preview in Paris next week (trust us, you’re not invited, nor are we) followed by a May launch, so start pinching those pennies.

Nanobrick Miyoul OLED media frames are for your luxurious inner-self

Remember those elegant mantelpieces with OLED infusion launched at CES? Turns out they’re from a company called Nanobrick that dubs this product range Miyoul. Most of the 11 models sport multiple screens — either 3.3-inch or 4.1-inch — but such indulgence seems to be out of touch with current OLED prices, not to mention the cost of craftsmanship on top of that. Until the day we can afford a Miyoul in each room, just keep trying your lucky lottery numbers.

Stuart Hughes goes low-end with $160k Nokia Supreme

Stuart Hughes aficionados take note. The luxury bedazzler is now back with an entry-level alternative to its $3.2 million iPhone 3GS Supreme. Of course, the new Nokia Supreme will still set you back a suitably ridiculous £99,995 (or $160k), which will get you a Nokia 8800 encrusted with 12.5 cts of pink diamonds, some handmade veneers made from 83 grams of platinum, a navigation button topped off with a single 3 ct diamond, and the usual granite box to store it in. Only three have been made, but it looks like today’s your lucky day — it’s still in stock.

Crapgadget CES, round 3: Moneual’s $45K HTPC

There are some that might challenge the very idea of anything this expensive being a “crapgadget,” but closer inspection of this item leaves little room for doubt. Indeed, it looks like Moneual’s still around with its jewel laden “luxury” PCs, and we were fortunate enough to come across this delightful specimen on the floor of CES. The 701 Jewelry HTPC is handcrafted with gold and brass and adorned with 3500 Swarovski elements — as well as HDMI, Blu ray, and Windows Vista Home Premium. Your cost? A mere $45,000. “The price of gold is going up,” the helpful chap at the company’s booth pointed out. This isn’t a media PC, then — it’s an investment. Before you call your broker, take a closer look at the gallery below.
