Remember those Samsung Unpacked events from earlier this month and way back in February? Well Sammy is apparently readying something else for the upcoming CTIA, and we’ve tentatively circled October 11th in our diaries. There’s nothing concrete yet on precisely what the Korean manufacturer will be offering up to the masses, though we’ve seen previous events cover smartphones, cameras and even tablets all in one fell swoop. Might the next Google phone — heavily rumored to be a Samsung baby– be “primed” for launch?

Nokia is still hammering out the hardware for its premier Windows Phone, but here’s a taste of what the beleaguered phone giant will be adding in the way of exclusive apps. Posted on the Zune marketplace, Top Apps turned up a few days ago and we managed to get a screen grab in case it disappears. It appears to be Nokia’s “fun and quick” interpretation of a curated app portal, all pretty similar to the stock Windows Phone offering. Looks like we’ll have to wait just a little longer to see exactly how much creative freedom Nokia manages to wring from Microsoft’s (previously stringent) Windows Phone UI.

The LG Esteem has been spotted hanging out in several official-looking press shots accompanied by several pages of specification juice at LG’s partner portal site. Previously seen under the guise Bryce, and seemingly identical to Verizon’s LG Revolution, this metroPCS interpretation looks set to arrive very soon. A welcome upgrade to the network’s previous LTE offering, the Esteem runs Gingerbread on a 4.3 inch screen and has some respectable mid-range crendentials under the hood including a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM and 8GB of storage expandable by microSD. There’s also a five megapixel snapper on the back, embedded in a stylish metal strip similar to the dual-core T-Mobile G2x. Unlike LG’s powerful flagship, though, MetroPCS will reportedly be offering up the Esteem off-contract for $349 — a reasonable way to increase your LTE-connected self-worth

HTC has now launched itself into the clouds, confirming that its latest Android phones will get an extra 3GB of storage with Dropbox. According to Pocket-Lint, the extra space will extend to all HTC devices running Sense 3.5, which at the moment means it’s limited to the forthcoming HTC Rhyme. We probably won’t see the Dropbox deal extend to HTC’s Windows Phones though — Microsoft reckons it has the whole file-syncing thing covered.

ViewSonic has revealed its latest Android phone, the V430 — though you’d be hard pressed to tell who made it from looks alone. Putting the incognito design aside, vital statistics include a meaty WVGA 4.3-inch screen, and a 5 megapixel primary camera paired with a VGA front-facing camera, all chugging along on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. ViewSonic has cut down to only three buttons below the screen, a change from the four-button setup we’ve seen on its previous Android tablets and phones. Sadly, the Android version number has been similarly reduced — the V430 is apparently running Android 2.2, not the Android 2.3 Gingerbread deliciousness we’ve come to expect from Google-powered smartphones in 2011. The V430 looks set on launching first in Russia, but no word yet on whether it’ll board the Trans-Siberian across to Europe and beyond. Price is also Russian secret.

You can’t get more niche than a phone accessory that’s also a phone, but that’s exactly what Japanese network Willcom has got here in the miniscule WX03A “strap phone” — a candy-bar handset that attaches to another phone. The device weighs in just 33g, crammed in a 32 x 70mm frame boasting a thickness of 10.5mm — which, as you can see, compares favorably with a packet of curiously-named Japanese mints. With the space at a premium, features are very thin on the ground; no Bluetooth, memory card slot or even email functionality. There is, however, an infrared connection (for exchanging contacts), microUSB port, headphone socket and a battery capable of 300 hours standby. Those genuinely interested in carrying two handsets can pick one up in December, and we hope to see in-the-wild pictures of lop-sided, dual-phone nunchucks soon after.

While we’ve had access to Adobe’s Flash Player 11 in beta form for months, the company announced it will finally get official, along with Air 3, next month. Among the many new features included are support for accelerated 2D and 3D graphics with a claimed 1,000 times faster performance than Flash Player 10 and Air 2. That’s enough to enable “console-quality” gaming on both computers and connected TVs and on mobile devices (Android, iOS, Playbook) with a pre-release version of Flash 11 (a production release you can take on the go is expected in “the near future”). Other new options include allowing developers to package Air 3 along with their apps in a single install, HD video quality on multiple platforms including iOS, DRM for video rentals, 64-bit support and more.
