Moneual DSPC puts a monitor on your computer case, welcomes your widgets

CES is a big place, way bigger than your first apartment, so hopefully you’ll forgive us for missing the Moneual Lab DSPC on the show floor. That stands for Dual Screen PC, a case sporting a decidedly tall display that could make for a useful desktop extension despite subscribing to no aspect ratios heretofore known by man. Unfortunately no specs were provided for resolution or size, but we could see throwing your image editor’s toolbox over there, maybe a chat window, or just loading it up with widgets as in this picture. However, with an anticipated cost of $1,500, we’re thinking you could instead buy a properly large second monitor — and a new desk to put it on.

BenQ debuts high-end EW2430, EW2430V LED monitors

BenQ’s monitors may have all come from the same glossy black plastic mold as of late, but the company’s stepped things up a bit for its new 24-inch EW2430 and EW2430V “Vertical Alignment” LED monitors, which pack some high-end specs and some more refined looks to match. Chief among those specs is the VA LED panel used in each monitor, which promises a native 3,000:1 contrast ratio, minimal light leaking, an improved viewing angle, and a true 8-bit color range, among other benefits. You’ll also get a full range of ports (including two HDMI and four USB on each), a pair of 2W speakers, and some added features like “Smart Focus,” “Super Resolution,” and “3D Noise Reduction” on the EW2430V model. Still no word on pricing, but you can look for both monitors to hit Europe and the Asia Pacific region this month, with a worldwide release set to follow sometime thereafter.

Green House reveals its first 15.6-inch USB monitor, lives large on small charge

Just when MMT’s 15.4-inch Monitor2Go was getting excited about its big USB display on campus title, Greenhouse Japan has strutted in and ruined the party with its 15.6-inch GH-USD16K USB secondary monitor. True, a resolution of 1366 x 768 won’t give the screen bragging rights over Apple’s 27-inch Cinema Display, but it should suffice for those on the move in desperate need of some quick dual-screen action. Especially since the accessory weighs less than 3 pounds, produces 18bit color depth and has a brightness of 220 nits while sipping just 5 watts of Serial Bus power. Speaking of dual-action, the monitor can also be set to clone or extend the connected computer’s screen depending on user preference. Look for it to start shipping early next month to Japan for an estimated price of $214, glancing over its shoulder until an inevitable 15.8-inch newbie lopes onto the block.

Sony outs CLM-V55 video monitor for interchangeable lens cameras

To take John McEnroe’s famous quote badly out of context, you cannot be serious about video recording without giving your devices a nice big display for videographers to monitor their recordings through. Sony’s clearly in agreement and has today revealed the CLM-V55, a 5-inch clip-on unit for its interchangeable lens cameras, that provides WVGA resolution, tilt / swivel adjustments, and color peaking plus pixel magnification to make sure focus is just how you like it. The primary beneficiaries of this would be those delightful A33 and A55 siblings, which strive to combine the fast autofocus of a camcorder with the image quality of a DSLR, along with the NEX-VG10, an all-out camcorder that can nonetheless exchange its lenses and even exploit Alpha-mount glass via an adapter. You can see it outfitted with the V55 after the break, right next to the full press release. Launch is expected in March at an as yet unannounced price.

MultiTouch Ltd’s 46-inch panel accepts unlimited touch inputs, we put it to the test (video hands-on)

MultiTouch Ltd has been at this IR-based multitouch thing since 2007 and it’s hit CES in force this week. Sure, the current 46-inch model requires 12 inches of depth — in order to provide sufficient space for the infrared cameras embedded in its back to capture the whole, ahem, surface — but having unlimited touch inputs is always a wildly impressive sight. We put one of the displays to the test by exploiting a nearby crowd and slapping down a good 40+ fingers on it, all of which were recognized. To be perfectly fair, the IR cameras don’t seem to have a very flat recognition area and many of our inputs were picked up from over an inch from the screen. The 46-incher under hand is already available for a totally affordable $17,000, provides full HD resolution, and hooks up to a PC for processing of input. MMT’s DisplayLink-equipped 15.4-inch Monitor2Go hands-on at CES 2011 (video)

We just happened upon MMT’s Monitor2Go at CES’s ShowStoppers event here in Vegas, and… well, it’s a Mimo monitor, but huge. The new version — which is expected to ship in a few months here in the US for $279 — lacks the number pad that was on last year’s model. That one was aimed primarily at accountants on the run, whereas this DisplayLink-equipped version is aimed at everyone else. You can catch up on all of the specifications and such here, but the actual display felt satisfactorily light, the swiveling hinge was rock solid and the screen itself was acceptable for a secondary solution. The low resolution won’t dazzle anyone, and it’s certainly no replacement for a legitimate monitor, but it’s definitely easier to lug around than a new ST2220T. Lenovo L2363d is a 3d monitor with 3D webcam and 3D glasses

NVIDIA blew what’s left of our minds with its Project Denver announcement yesterday, so today it’s back to the more familiar world of 3D to soothe our souls. The company’s 3D Vision technology has been installed on the above Lenovo L2363d, which touts both three-dimensional output and input, courtesy of a pair of webcam lenses embedded in its top bezel. This 1920 x 1080 display spans 23 inches diagonally and requires the usual active shutter glasses to enjoy its content. So, if you buy one for yourself and your nearest and dearest, you can get your 3D videoconferencing action on in proper Blues Brothers style.

MMT’s DisplayLink-equipped 15.4-inch USB Monitor2Go given a $279 price

Both DisplayLink and MMT seem pretty darn proud to be revealing the 15.4-inch Monitor2Go here at CES, but in reality, this unit has already been around the block. If you’ll recall, the Field Monitor Pro was first spotted a few weeks back, and now MMT is introducing a rebadged version in Vegas. The good news, however, is that we finally have a price to pore over: $279, and it’ll ship to consumers later this quarter. For those that missed last month’s slip, this fold-up monitor can be used alongside any machine (PCs are green-lit, Mac support is in beta) with a USB port, offering a 1280 x 800 screen resolution and a number pad to boot. Of course, since DisplayLink is behind the pixels, up to six screens can be daisy-chained off of a host computer’s single USB port to create a massive video wall — something we strongly encourage, of course.

Dell’s IPS and multitouch ST2220T finally shipping to tilting monitor seekers

Well, it took a bit longer than we anticipated for Dell’s glorious 21.5-inch multitouch ST2220T monitor with an IPS panel to roll into e-tailers — last we had heard it was planned for late Fall 2010 — but we promise you, this one is better late than never. The 1920 x 1080-resolution display is finally available through both Dell and LogicBuy, and if you’re anything like us, just a glance at the picture above has you figuring out just how quickly you can get together $310 (there’s a $20 discount now and free shipping from LogicBuy). Naturally, the IPS display is said to provide extra wide viewing angles, but perhaps even more enticing is the monitor’s A-frame stand, which tilts the screen forward, backward and even flat. Put that all together with its infrared multitouch and you’ve got a larger than life tablet for gaming and watching Netflix. So, you blowing some of that Christmas cash or what?

iPhonECG case monitors your heart rate to make sure you’re appropriately excited about CES

CES isn’t just about incrementally thinner or faster hardware, you know. Some people like to bring legitimately innovative ideas to the show, such as this iPhonECG case, which does what its name suggests: it takes an ECG (electrocardiogram) reading of your heart’s activity through a pair of electrodes and then communicates its findings to an iPhone 4 it can be attached to. We say it can be attached to an iPhone as communication is done wirelessly, so you’ll probably be able to monitor your ticker’s rhythm without the Applephone pressed against your bosom. Then again, maybe you like that. It’s a free world, we don’t judge. We’ll be sending out our most hairy-chested editor to give this thing a proper test at the Las Vegas convention next week.
