Tesco’s £349 Mini 10 actually a £349 Mini 9

Can you say “oops?” That so-called Mini 10, which curiously emerged at Tesco before anywhere else, is actually not a Mini 10. As the story goes, folks across the pond who plunked down £349 for their very own 10-inch Dell netbook have started receiving shipments only to find a perfectly average Mini 9 within. Furthermore, Tesco’s Mini 10 order page is now completely nonexistent, further signaling that a serious mishap occurred somewhere along the line. Hate to burst your bubble, but if you ordered one of these pups from this vendor, you should probably expect to hit the return to sender option and eagerly await a refund.

MSI’s Wind U120 netbook is go for purchase

The Wind U120 has been drifting around for months now in the minds of undersized laptop aficionados, and being that you’ve already heard it talked up, seen it ripped apart and perused a gallery full of hands-on images, all’s that left to do is break out the plastic. Yeah, we know — $469.99 is tough to hand over even for a rather respectable 10-inch netbook, but at least you get a six-cell battery, right?

[Thanks, Abigail]

Forget chocolates, Samsung offers pink NC10 for Valentine gifting

If a pink MSI Wind isn’t the way to your significant other’s heart, Samsung has an alternative for you in the form of a rose-colored NC10. The similarly-spec’d 10.2-inch netbook sports a 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, and Windows XP Home. Additionally, it’s got a suspiciously-long 7-hour battery life and anti-germ keyboard. UK retailer dabs has it listed for £316 ($434) with VAT and a February 9 release date. Let’s just hope she doesn’t lament the color choice come March.

Specs for HP’s Mini 1100 pop up, ExpressCard/54 slot is a go Update: maybe not

Looks like HP’s web monkeys are filling in the product pages for those unannounced Mini 1100s we spotted earlier — spec pages for the 1133CL, 1135NR, 1140NR and 1141NR have been posted, and those rumors of an ExpressCard/54 slot are apparently true. It sounds like the 1141NR is the Vivienne Tam edition — it comes with a “Vivienne Tam sleeve” — but apart from that and Bluetooth in the 1135NR and 1140NR, they’ve all got the same 10.1-inch 1024 x 576 display, 1.6GHz Atom N270, 1GB RAM, 60GB drive, and three-cell battery. No idea why HP’s got so many different confusing model numbers for what seems like the exact same product, but we’re guessing we’ll find out more soon — hopefully there’s a bit more sense behind this silliness than with the Eee alphabet soup.

Update: HP’s told Lilliputing that the ExpressCard listing is a mistake and that the 1100s are just minor variations on the 1000s, but the entries are all still up with no changes. Guess we’ll wait and see when these things go official.

[Thanks, Ricardo]

Dell Mini 10 shows up at Tesco for £349

Well, Dell might have been super cagey about pricing and release dates for the new Mini 10 during its CES Adamo non-event, but you can’t keep the kids locked up forever, and Dell’s netbook middle child seems to have shacked up at Tesco for £349 ($480). Basic specs are generic netbook — 1.6GHz Atom Z530 (it lists a Z520, but we know it’s a Z530), 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, Windows XP, and a sesame seed bun — but we were actually quite taken with Dell’s “perfect 10” when we played with it at CES, and the addition of a multitouch trackpad, built-in GPS and optional WWAN certainly make the Mini 10 a little more interesting than the competition. We’ll see how pricing looks when Dell sees fit to bring this guy Stateside — let’s hope this mix of features doesn’t end up costing $900 like a certain not-a-netbook competitor with a similar spec sheet.

[Thanks, Fry]

The 10-inch Acer Aspire One takes some beauty shots

Sure, the 10-inch Acer Aspire One isn’t what you’d call classified material, but most of the leaked pictures we’ve seen so far have been pretty low-rent — so this latest batch of leaked photos showing the Atom-powered netbook all gussied up for the camera might stir some deeper feelings in that cold heart of yours. It looks like we’ll be getting multiple colors in addition to that new non-stupid trackpad button layout, so that’s fun — we’re quite taken with the red model here. Now if Acer would just hurry up and tell us what we already know. More shots at the read link.

MSI Wind U100 Valentine Edition: geek romance, exemplified

Oh sure, there’s all manners of garb and chocolates that you could get your lover this Valentine’s Day, but the true geek knows just how hard it is to pick up those all-too-clichéd items when it’s a gadget you’re really after. Enter MSI, who has just delivered the appropriately named Valentine Edition of its Wind U100 netbook just in time for that special holiday. If you’ll recall, this isn’t the first time MSI has outed a minuscule laptop oozing with romance, but this one boasts a limited edition label (figuratively, at least), a 6-cell battery, 160GB hard drive and a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor. You can purchase 2.6 pounds of lovey-dovey right now for $429.99, but you better act fast — no lady worth having will accept the “my UPS guy didn’t come through” excuse. The full release is after the break.

HP Mini 2140 “business” netbook now available

HP’s very recently announced Mini 2140 is available now for you to get one of your very own if you so please. The handsome fella’s just been unleashed on the world, and if you don’t remember his stats, well, that’s what we’re here for. The business-aimed netbook features a 1.6GHz Atom CPU, with options for either an 80GB or 160GB hard drive, up to 2GB of RAM, and resolution options of 1366 x 768 and 1024 x 567 for the 10-inch screen, and of course the ExpressCard / 54 slot. Though a Linux OS has been announced, so far all we’ve seen are options for XP and Vista materialize, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled. Prices start at $499 for the base model, but run up to $799 for the tricked out Vista version. Now get back to work, slacker.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Sony’s VAIO P spotted for sale in Hong Kong, price tag spotted too

Sony's VAIO P spotted for sale in Hong Kong, price tag spotted too

Just last week our hopes for an affordable VAIO P were quickly dashed as Amazon’s UK site fixed what was apparently typo, setting the price on Sony’s “don’t call me a netbook” ultraportable to over $1,000. That’s in-line with what we’ve been expecting for the US release, but still we’d held out some hope for a last-minute price cut. Now, like a twist of the knife, we have photos of the machines for sale in the wild — with a wild price tag to match. Kip HT took these pictures (one above, one below) at a Hong Kong retailer and passed them along, sending word that the top-spec model was going for the equivalent of $2,188.48. No word on a price for the cheapest model, but it seems we now have confirmation that the Sony tax also applies overseas.

[Thanks, Kip HT]

CherryPal calls its Bing netbook a nettop, can’t win for losing

We know, these newfangled terms can certainly get confusing, but you’d think a company producing miniature laptops would do a little research before assuming that “nettop” is actually just another word for “netbook.” CherryPal has made it exceptionally easy for us to joke on it by introducing the first nettop we’ve ever seen that actually looks nothing like a diminutive desktop. In fact, the eco-friendly Bing has a fold-up 10.2-inch LCD — you know, exactly like a laptop. Inexplicably launched this weekend at the Sundance Film Festival, the machine includes a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 160GB hard drive, three USB 2.0 ports, an SD / MMC / MS card reader, WiFi, dual speakers, a 1,024 x 600 resolution panel, 0.3 megapixel webcam and a headphone jack to boot. Pricing is expected to hover around $250, but for a limited time, users interested in an actual nettop (imagine that, right?) can snag the Bing along with the C114 PC for a grand total of $399.
