Samsung Omnia 7 brings 4-inch Super AMOLED screen to Windows Phone 7… a little early

Boy, there’s hardly been enough time to catch our breath and analyze the first unintentionally official Windows Phone 7 handset in the form of LG’s Optimus 7, yet Samsung is already joining the fray with its own Omnia 7. Currently populating its very own landing page on Samsung’s Russian site, the Omnia 7 is a 4-inch Super AMOLED beastie with a rather aged 1GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 at its core, 8GB of storage, and a 5 megapixel cam that can do 720p video. Hit up the source link before somebody over in Moscow wakes up and realizes that Windows Phone 7 isn’t meant to be launching for another few hours.

LG Optimus 7 made official ahead of Windows Phone 7 launch, quickly yanked

Microsoft’s been really keen to keep all the Windows Phone 7 fanfare to itself, but LG’s equally zealous official UK blog has just thwarted that effort by posting both details and a gallery of images of the company’s Optimus 7 (aka E900) handset online. To be fair to them, it’s nothing a ton of leaks haven’t already revealed: the Optimus 7 will be a 3.8-inch touchscreen device, sporting WVGA (800 x 480) resolution, 16GB of onboard storage, a 5 megapixel camera with a 720p video mode, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi, a digital compass, and your usual proximity and ambient light sensors. Also present will be that DLNA streaming functionality we saw at IFA, officially titled Play-To, which will be exclusive to LG’s phones along with Voice-to-Text and Scansearch, the former being a message transcriber and the latter acting as an augmented reality real-time search service. Intriguing.

Cowon X7 debuts in home market of Korea with 4.3-inch screen, American ambitions

What was merely an indistinct outline in August is today a bona fide retail product. Cowon has made its X7 PMP official over in South Korea, letting us take a gander at the spec sheet if not necessarily buy one just yet. A 4.3-inch touchscreen takes center stage, backed by up to 160GB of hard drive storage and a battery rated to last for 103 hours of music or 10 hours of video playback. An FM radio tuner, built-in speaker, and Bluetooth chip fill out the “retro modern” body, while the software front reveals DivX-encoded video compatibility and a smattering of your usual note-taking and utility apps. The standard 160GB model is going on sale for 339,000 KRW ($304), or if you’re a globetrotter and need a set of preinstalled dictionaries, it’ll set you back 379,000 KRW ($340). There’s no word on US availability just yet, but this thing didn’t go through the chore of getting certified with the FCC for nothing.

Orange and T-Mobile complete UK network merger

There you have it, boys and girls. Exactly as promised, Orange and T-Mobile have flipped the switch in the UK, allowing subscribers to one carrier to roam onto the network of the other for free. This really is the most important consumer-facing aspect of the Everything Everywhere merger, at least until they figure out how to mix orange and magenta without charring our eyes with the resulting shade of crazy. Don’t forget to let us know how your newly expanded network affects your phone’s utility — better, worse, no difference?

[Thanks, Lewis]

HTC Mozart slips out on official Orange UK website, shows us how to replace its SIM and battery

This is so bad, it’s hilarious. As if the HTC Mozart needed any further confirmation of its existence and imminent arrival to British shores, Orange’s official web portal has decided to instruct us on how to replace the internal bits of this unannounced Windows Phone 7 handset. That’s right, even though HTC and Microsoft are acting all cloak and dagger about it, the freaking phone’s name and likeness are hanging out on Orange’s official website. Have we said the word “official” enough times already? Skip past the break for a couple more image grabs which are sure to disappear just as soon as Orange finally figures out what day of the month this is.

Toshiba Regza GL1 wants you to put down the glasses, enjoy the 3D

Toshiba might have abandoned OLED, but that doesn’t mean the company is lacking ambition in the display-making field. Today it’s using CEATEC 2010, Japan’s biggest electronics expo, to make official that 21-inch glasses-free 3D prototype we’ve been hearing about. It’s lost an inch in becoming a retail product, with the 20GL1 offering a 20-inch diagonal, but the important multi-parallax picture transmission (employing a lenticular lens setup as used in Philips’ Dimenco) remains the same. The new set, accompanied by a smaller 12GL1 model, will be shipping in Japan this December, and if it really does what it promises, the rest of the world should not be far behind.

Update: Japan’s Impress Watch has more details for us, listing a 720p resolution for the 20-incher and a funky 466 x 350 on the 12-inch GL1. Prices are estimated at ¥240,000 ($2,885) and ¥120,000 ($1,443), respectively.

Final Fantasy XIV PC controller debuts in dazzling white

Been itching to wrap your mitts around the latest Final Fantasy chapter? Well, we trust you’ve already obtained the FF XIV-endorsed WiFi router from Planex, so why not complete the set with the official PC controller from Sunflex? Coming in a snowy white enclosure, it doesn’t stray far from the Dual Shock recipe that most PC gamepad makers like to cook from, although it does offer curiously elongated hand grips. Are Final Fantasy players generally larger than the average gamer or is this just a more ergonomic design for those 20-hour grinding sessions in the world that Square Enix built?

Toshiba Qosmio X500 landing September 26 with GTX 460M graphics and a $1,300 price tag

The best things in life, it turns out, aren’t actually free. Toshiba’s decided to freshen up its X500 gaming station with NVIDIA’s new high-end GTX 460M discrete graphics and slapped a handsome $1,300 MSRP on the resulting beast. And a beast it shall be, with an 18.4-inch screen, Core i5 or i7 CPU choices, SSD storage options, up to 8GB of RAM, a backlit keyboard, and simulated 5.1 audio pumping out of Harman Kardon speakers. We had a chance to check out its X505 brother recently and came away impressed by the deep blacks the screen was able to produce. For a bit more visual detail, visit the gallery of product shots below.

[Thanks, Ralph]

Windows Phone 7 confirmed for all five major UK mobile operators

This will hardly be the most surprising thing you’ll hear today, but Microsoft has officially confirmed that all five major operators in the United Kingdom — Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile, Orange, and Three — have signed up to offer its Windows Phone 7 handsets when they make their long-awaited debut in the coming weeks. Additionally, the Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U will also be stocking WP7 devices.

Hasselblad H4D-31 cuts the entry price for medium format excellence to $13k

It might cost as much as a small car at €9,995 ($13,132) before tax, but believe it or not, the H4D-31 represents one of Hasselblad‘s most affordable offerings to date. Promising to bring all the goodness of the H4D-40, but at a more reasonable price point, this new shooter offers 31 megapixels of resolution and a choice of either an 80mm prime lens or a CF-lens adapter to let you attach V-System gear you’ve already got in your inventory. As such, it’s attempting to perform the fine balancing act of appealing to both system stalwarts looking to go digital and DSLR enthusiasts tempted to step up to a larger sensor. We’re still in love with Nikon’s D3S, but you’ve got to admit, that H-embossed focusing ring sure looks sexy.
