Engadget HD Podcast 264 – 09.06.2011

This week’s Labor Day podcast is here, squeezed between IFA last week and CEDIA this week. Of course, all those balls in the air gave us plenty to talk about, not the least of which included definitive word on the status of Media Center in Windows 8. DirecTV’s new UI in testing and latest channel addition also made for interesting discussion as well as expansions internationally by Hulu and Netflix. IFA dumped some unexpected 3D hardware in our laps in the form of Toshiba’s ZL2 and Sony’s HMZ-T1 — we’ll see which one is the bigger draw this holiday season. We’ve got all that and plenty more so before you sit down to watch the NFL kick off later this week, press play and give us a listen.

Engadget HD Podcast 263 – 08.30.2011

We had plenty to talk about on this week’s Engadget HD Podcast but first we had some internal business to attend to with our BTS giveaway (you’re entered right?) and Fantasy Football trash talking. After that, a combination of DirecTV leaks and news from Google and Apple had us in a mood to talk about the state of the TV industry and just who is standing in the way of innovation. Luckily, there is someone working on new technology, and the ATSC is working on new broadcast standards for 3D and other features to be delivered via antenna. After that we turned to the Xbox 360, which is getting some 3D games from Microsoft including Halo: CE Anniversary, and a brand new ESPN3 app. To wrap things up we had to get in some HD display news, with a new projector and Sony’s web app that lets you figure out just what size TV your living room can handle before digging into this week’s HDTV shows, Blu-ray discs and videogames.

It’s been a bumpy ride, but we’re back with a new episode of the Engadget HD Podcast. This week brings multiple CableCARD tuners, iPad apps and even a few new projectors. Finally, we wrap things up with what we’re watching this week and of course, some football talk.

Engadget HD Podcast 261 – 08.16.2011

Back with very little delay, it’s another episode of the Engadget HD Podcast. The shocking news of the week is certainly Google’s deal to purchase Motorola Mobility, so we brought on our good friend and industry insider Jeremy Toeman to figure out what Motorola might mean for Google TV. Of course, that’s not all that happened this week, so we’ve also got news from TiVo, Zediva, Warner Bros and Cablevision. Hulu is launching in Japan, the PS3 is a better Blu-ray 3D player and it’s also the season for our back to school HDTV buying advice, so listen in on the reasoning for our picks and see if you agree. Finally, we’ve got Runco’s cheapest projector out, a new push from Niveus and of course our TV picks for the week before getting ready for some football.

Engadget Podcast 252 – 08.12.2011

You might think the Engadget Podcasters are a bunch of dudes and dudettes who sit around and obsess over consumer electronics all day for a living. Aaaaaaannnnd…….you might be right. That’s why we brought in Garry Dell’Abate, a guy who obsesses over executive-producing The Howard Stern Show every day (for a living), for a little bit of an outside take on the big issues of the week. But never fear, traditionalists: he’s still quite the nerd, it turns out. It’s the Engadget Podcast, this time with perspective.

Engadget Podcast 251 – 08.05.2011

Tim’s hanging out on a boat somewhere this weekend, and we know that if he were here he’d try to get us to not make any “inmates running the asylum” jokes, but he’s not, so here we go! We’re going podCRAZY this week, waging patent warfare against the orderlies (happens more often than you’d think), taking all our medications in tablet form (that’s right), and Skyping our bad influences from our iPads because we just don’t care. It’s the Engadget Podcast…unhinged (and italicized).

Host: Brian Heater, Darren Murph
Guests: Dana Wollman, Richard Lawler
