BlueAnt branches out from Bluetooth, puts its wired Embrace headphones up for pre-order

We suppose it’s not every company that can stake their reputations on Bluetooth headsets alone. BlueAnt, a brand best known for its voice-controlled earpieces, is getting ready to ship a headset of the wired persuasion. What you see up there is the Embrace, a pair of comfy-looking on-ear headphones with leather pads, an integrated mic, and iPhone-compatible controls that let you make calls and play, pause, and skip audio tracks. It has a 69-inch cable, and comes with a handy 3.5mm-to-6.3mm adapter and faux-leather case, but mostly, we have a sweet spot for headsets that fold flat. The company doesn’t expect them to ship for a few weeks, which gives you a bit of time to start saving up the requisite $199.

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia ray up for UK pre-order, ships in August?

Do you hate proper capitalization, live in the British isles, and have a spare £350? Excellent, because Sony Ericsson’s Xperia ray has just gone up for pre-order on Play.com. Scheduled for release on August 15th, the specs of the Gingerbread-toting gizmo haven’t changed since we first spotted them. New to us, however, are the four hues we spied on the duo’s website (which you can peep after the fold). Unfortunately for pigment lovers, one can only call dibs the black version this far out, but with more than a month before shipment, we’d pull the trigger anyway — you’ve got more than enough time to sweat color choices, we say.

Gigabyte’s S1080 Windows 7 slate now up for US pre-order, ships July 1st for $650

After having first gone on sale in Taiwan, and later Australia, it’s only fair that Yanks now have a shot at Gigabyte’s monstrous Windows 7 slate. You may recall the S1080 for its 320GB drive, dual-core Atom N570, Ethernet port, and (curious) VGA output. Or perhaps you were stoked on that optical mouse and tactile mouse button combo. Well, all that stands between you and your future LAN-partying, tablet-toting self, are 650 clams and a handful of days — you know, given that scheduled ship date of July 1st. Rounding out the remaining specs are 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, 1.3 megapixel webcam and a USB 3.0 port. If the thought of a Windows 7 slate with a mouse and a smattering of ports has your heart aflutter, we’d like to ask: why are you still here? Oh, and before you hit the source links, don’t forget the snazzy optional dock with optical drive + speakers that’ll ship later this summer.

We really hope you’ve haven’t grown tired of Steampunk over the years. Over-saturated? Passé? Perhaps, but there’s still something undeniably alluring about the blend of Victorian-era mechanics and modern technology. That’s why, even three years after we first caught a glimpse of it, we’re pretty psyched to hear that Datamancer’s Steampunk Laptop is actually being made available for purchase. Detailed specs haven’t been offered, we only know that it will feature “cutting-edge internal components,” but we can tell you there are a bevy of customization options. You can choose everything from the wood stain color, to keyboard fonts, to etched brass lids or clockwork gears like the original design (except these will tick and turn). You can pre-order one now (at the source link) for $5,500 — a healthy discount over the estimated price once production on these one-of-a-kind machines kicks in to gear ($7,500+). Now we just have to decide between food and rent, or a work of PC art.

Pivot Power strip starts shipping, folks who ordered a year ago rejoice

Don’t you hate it when you preorder something and it doesn’t show up for, like, a year? We know of at least 960 early adopters who can feel your pain. The Pivot Power strip, which lets you rearrange six outlets to plug in adapters of any size, went on sale in June of last year for $23 a pop. But, because the community-driven website Quirky is selling it, the ordering process wasn’t as simple as paying and waiting for it to show up on your doorstep: the company would only ship them when 960 people “committed” to buying them — not unlike how a certain number of people are needed to activate a Groupon deal. Well, the company quickly met its goal, the strip is at last shipping, and Jake Zien, the inventor (that’s that giddy fellow up there) couldn’t be more pleased. When we first reported on the Pivot Power strip’s availability, more than half of those pre-sale slots had already been filled so we’re not sure just what took so long. Since then, Zien & Co. have been spending their time seeing the thing through the manufacturing process. In any case, if you missed the boat the first time, it looks like there might still be additional units up for sale.

Acer’s 3G-equipped Iconia Tab A100 up for pre-order on Amazon UK for £400

When we first caught wind of the pending release of Acer’s Iconia Tab A100 WiFi version, we were amazed by its Amazonian pre-order promise of Android 3.0 for a mere £300. Now, a second version of the seven-inch slate has hit the same site with a May 14 release date, a sprinkling of 3G, and the cut-rate cost of its cousin has been replaced with a £400 ($660) price tag. Unfortunately, the extra hundred pounds takes the A500’s 3G baby brother out of the bargain basement, but you didn’t think you’d get all those G’s for free, did you?

HDHomeRun Prime TV tuner passes CableLabs tests – Update: Preorder pulled, 6-tuner ships first

We’ve been waiting for SiliconDust’s CableCARD-compatible HDHomeRun Prime for a little over a year and it seems finally ready to bring its triple tuner TV magic home, having gained CableLabs certification as of April 28th and subsequently showing up for preorder on Amazon. While this is mostly big news for Windows Media Center fans who need a new way to get premium channels on their box it also supports other DVR software like MythTV on Copy Freely-marked content. HTPC builders don’t have to choose between this HDHR3-CC and the (suddenly in abundant supply and still $399) Ceton InfiniTV 4 just yet, since the listing has no shipping date and the last we’d heard from SiliconDust was that preorders would ship around 30 days after it completed certification. Check out our hands-on impressions from CES a few months ago if you’re on the fence, but right now all that’s standing between you and that grey box is a little bit of time… and $207.

Update: According to a post on its forum, SiliconDust confirmed the HDHomeRun Prime has been certified and an email announcement will follow shortly, however it expects to deliver a 6-tuner Theater version first with the three tuner box appearing afterwards. The post also notes sites are “incorrectly listing” the HDHomeRun Prime for preorder and “will not be first in line for delivering product” so you may want to wait for the official word on which “major retailer” has the go-ahead to make sure you’re first in line. The option to preorder disappeared from Amazon this morning, we’ll let you know when and where the option to purchase pops up next. [Thanks, robniep]

HTC Flyer up for preorder for $499 at Best Buy on April 24th

Europeans have been able to preorder the HTC Flyer for months, and now curious Yanks are about to get their chance, too. The tablet will be available for preorder on April 24th (that’s this Sunday) for $499 with Best Buy as the exclusive seller. Though our friends across the pond have been able to snag 3G versions, the one about to come stateside just has WiFi. The Flyer, as you’ll remember, is the phone maker’s first tablet, and has a 7-inch (1024 x 600) display, aluminum body, 1.5GHz Qualcomm chip, and a version of the company’s Sense UI that was tweaked with slates in mind. Alas, It’ll ship with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), but HTC is promising an eventual upgrade to 3.0 (Honeycomb) and all of the bigger-screen goodies that come with it.

Cisco’s Cius Android tablet now orderable, requisite ‘field representative’ still MIA

Cool your jets, buster — Cisco’s still no closer to rejoining the consumer realm. If you’ll recall, this here Android tablet was actually introduced at the front-end of the year, but it remains one for the business sect. Rivaling the PlayBook as the working man’s tablet, the Cius is now orderable through your Cisco field representative and / or authorized Cisco channel reseller. Of course, tracking him / her down on a Friday is another thing entirely, but you can expect the first shipments to go out “this month.” Excited? Jazzed? Bubbling over? You betcha.
