A day after becoming official, the Desire Z has received its first price: €549 if bought from Amazon.de. Alas, you still don’t have the option to actually purchase or pre-order the unlocked Froyo slider, but at least we’ve got a relative idea of where its pricing fits within HTC’s handset hierarchy. The answer is pretty highly, considering the original Desire, a flagship product in its time, debuted on the same web outlet at €519. And here we hoped the G2’s decent US pricing would translate to similar affordability for its sister device. Seems like the usual rule applies: you’d better be patient, rich, or both if you want to have the latest smartphone.

Update 2: UK e-tailer Play.com is now one-upping Amazon by suggesting an October 11 release date and taking pre-orders for the Desire Z at £430 and the Desire HD at £470. If this keeps going, they’ll be giving them away for free by the end of the day. Thanks, Greg!

Outside of confirming the phone’s existence and predicting pre-orders this month, T-Mobile hasn’t put out its own official price tag and launch date for the G2 yet, but that’s apparently not stopping Best Buy from publishing its own version of upcoming events. Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile are accepting pre-orders for the phone as of today, and will launch the device in stores on October 6th for $199 with a two year contract. That doesn’t rule out a higher price or some rebate shenanigans from T-Mobile’s own retailing efforts (though $199 is the rumored official pricetag), but it’s comforting to know that this phone, the great gray / white / black hope for QWERTY sliders running stock Android, will retail for the industry standard $199 at least somewhere.

Early reports indicate Europe will pay a pretty penny for Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, but the 7-inch tablet may cost a good bit less when it comes to US shores — the Wall Street Journal paraphrases a Samsung executive who claims it could run between $200 and $300 depending on the all-important carrier subsidies. The Korea Times, meanwhile, suggests a $300 to $400 retail price according to a different Samsung bigwig, who added that the Tab “will cost slightly more than the Galaxy S smartphone.” As you’re probably aware, Sammy’s Galaxy S typically retails for about $200 in the US — excepting Sprint’s Epic 4G at $250 — so if you held a bursting Li-ion battery to our head and forced us to guess, we’d say the latter range of dollar signs is far more likely.

Well, what’s this? Our homey Avner Ronen from Boxee just posted up a little response to Apple’s $99 next-gen Apple TV announcement, and he’s letting it slip that the much-anticipated Boxee Box will be $100 more than Apple’s device, or $199. Avner says Boxee has a “different view of what people want in their living rooms,” and that while his device might be more expensive, it’ll let you watch anything you can watch on your computer on your TV in 1080p — the ATV is still limited to 720p. We certainly know a lot of passionate Boxee fans who agree — now all Avner’s got to do is ship the damn thing and let this play out in the actual market.

Well, this is sad and unexpected: Microsoft’s Major Nelson just announced that Xbox Live Gold will be getting more expensive in the US, UK, Canada, and Mexico starting November 1. A single month will go from $7.99 to $9.99, three months will go from $19.99 to $24.99, and the yearly sub will now be $59.99, up from $49.99. Yes, it’s super lame, but to make up for it Microsoft’s running a quickie “lock in” promo for a discounted $40 one-year Gold sub starting November 1 — a nice deal if your subscription is set to expire around then, we suppose. We’re definitely wondering why Microsoft is jacking Live prices right before launching Kinect and the gaming-focused Windows Phone 7, though — we’ve heard theories ranging from an attempt to increase Entertainment and Devices revenue to a simple inflation adjustment. We’ll poke around — and we’re guessing there’s about to be a run on Gold upgrade cards.
