Motorola DROID goes on sale a little early at Best Buy Mobile

Looks like the DROID invasion is starting a little early — we were just sent these pics of Motorola’s beastly Android slider on sale at an unspecified Best Buy Mobile somewhere deep within America’s heartland. Or perhaps it’s lurking around the fringe of our nation’s coasts. In either case, we’re told BBM reps can sell you a DROID as of today, so it might be worth checking out if you’re not psyched to hit up your local Verizon store at 7AM tomorrow. And do let us know if the DROID ERIS is available, will you?

P.S.- Just got a tip that Wal-Mart is now selling ’em early too. The DROIDs are loose, people. Gather your valuables.

P.P.S.- Target Mobile Solutions, which operates kiosks in California Target stores, has opened the floodgates too — but the catch is that you’ll be paying $249.99 for a new activation, $50 more than Verizon after rebate. Thanks, Tony! (Update: we’re hearing it’s back down to $199.87 now — nice!)

[Thanks, Mike and Jesse]

Verizon announces early store openings for DROID launch

We’d already heard through the grapevine that select Verizon Wireless stores would be cracking their doors open early to deal with the presumed flood of consumersHumans” eager to snap up the first-ever Android 2.0 device, and now the carrier has come right out with the official details. We’re told that “many” of its over 2,000 retail locations will open at either 7AM or 8AM local time to field orders for the DROID, though VZW mall stores will all open at their regular time. You should check with your local store to see exactly when they’ll open, and while we can’t guarantee it, we’d guess that having an Android-related tattoo on your person is a good way to get VIP treatment once you arrive on scene. Or, you know, you could just get your Best Buy pre-order in now and save $100 up front by dodging the mail-in rebate.

UNIQLO TUNES: Blog Parts Play Your Music

We all loved (and continue to love) the UniQlock. And the UT Loop widget let you customize your own t-shirt collection advert.

Now, as part of its HEAT TECH range, Uniqlo has released a new blog part for the adoring public. UNIQLO TUNES is, as the name suggests, musical. You can upload the blog part onto your website to play UNIQLO’s music. Or, if you’ve got your own MP3 files uploaded you can even get the widget to play those.

HEAT TECH has been a runaway sales phenomenon in Japan. The clothes are meant to absorb body moisture to keep the body warm. No one likes to bundle up in thick clothing in the winter and now you don’t have to! Their online store also means you don’t even need to go out into the cold outside to buy your clothes.

The movie changes with the music. Here’s what it looks like:

Apple Geniuses Transitioning to iPod Touches In-Store

The Apple Store’s dirty little secret? Its employees are using Windows-based PDA handhelds to help you out with your purchases. That may well change this holiday season, however. The company is reportedly transitioning its stores to an “EasyPay” checkout system comprised of an iPod Touch, credit card reader, and barcode scanner.

Apple has apparently already begun the transition–rolling the devices out in its Santa Clara-based Valley Fair Mall location, which, as Apple Insider points out, is the closest store to Cupertino.

Walmart to rival Best Buy’s Geek Squad with own in-home install crew

We’ve never truly been at ease with that Geek Squad crowd. Something about “the people” they hang with and “the places” they hang at just worries us, so we’re pretty thrilled to see another mega-corp stepping in to take the place of the now-deceased Circuit City FireDog crew. Starting sometime before the holiday season, Wally World will be partnering with N.E.W. Customer Service Companies in order to offer in-home installation to customers buying anything from a wireless router to a HTIB. The service plans will be sold on prepaid cards ranging from $99 to $399 in value, and each install includes a “preliminary consultation and a tutorial after installation is completed.” Granted, it may be a bit tough to get the dude looking to spend $5 on a new plasma to spring for such a service, but hey, it’s not like competition is a bad thing.

Microsoft Store opens to Scottsdale campers (video)

By now you know that Microsoft’s on-line store is selling PCs and third party software. Well, Microsoft is also waving the flag over Scottsdale, AZ today as it swings the doors wide on its new line of brick-and-mortar retail stores. Fans lined up overnight and stood for hours in a twisted line that should have Apple fans nodding in a tacit understanding. Come on, you may have different tastes in OSes but you should be willing to fight to the death for the right to choose ’em. Check the queue after the break as well as the grand opening countdown from 7, naturally, and a first walk around the store. Pics just beyond the read link down there.

P.S. The first four campers each received a free Zune HD from Microsoft. Nice.

Microsoft online store now featuring third party hardware and software

Disappointed that you can’t make it to Scottsdale for the opening of the big Microsoft retail store? Since you’ve given up on real life in lieu of a completely wired existence anyways, perhaps a more meaningful experience would be to mosey over to the company’s online shop and check out all the new PCs and third party software that’s been added to the catalog. No longer just the fine purveyors of Office products and “Bill Gates is my homeboy” t-shirts, this is your newest online destination for Sony netbooks and Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing software — as well as that operating system you’ve been longing to get your hands on. One thing they don’t have? Manic Panic hair dye. Well, not yet anyways.

Geek Squad visa application approved, Best Buy opening stores in UK

We know you’re worried about what could happen; we saw that Liam Neeson movie too, the one where the daughter goes abroad and gets kidnapped and only after killing 351 people does he get her back. Taking trips to Europe can be risky, but our Best Buy is old enough and responsible and can take care of itself, so we’re okay with it taking a trip to the UK next year… even though we don’t know exactly where it’ll be landing. It’s been talking about going for so long it’d be a shame to say no now. Yes, it’ll be packing its blue shirts and yellow name tags so everyone will know what it is, and once it gets there sometime next year we’re sure it’ll call and tell us which franchise location will be first. So until then just try not to worry — and maybe sign it up for some self defense classes or something.

[Thanks, Adam]

Microsoft Store opening Thursday with Ashley Tisdale

Looks like our tipsters were spot-on. The Scottsdale Arizona Microsoft Store is indeed opening on October 22nd as we heard, the first of many we expect to grace local strip malls across the country. “Be entertained,” “Be excited,” and “Be early” (doors open at 10AM), exclaim the ads in the Arizona Republic newspaper, to collect gift bags and concert tickets being given away to the first 1,000 visitors. And wow, Ashley Tisdale… we guess Tony Danza was busy that day.

[Thanks, Sebastian O.]
