Neo Myth flash cart for N64 puts your ROMS where they belong (video)

N64 emulators are equal parts fun and frustrating: it’s great having access to all those ROMs, but wouldn’t you rather play ’em on the actual console? The Neo N64 Myth is a flash cart for your Nintendo 64 that lets you transfer games from your PC to a cart via USB. This bad boy features support for ROMs up to 512MB, all save types (it will even let you back up the saves on your PC), up to two games at the same time, and more. Sure, at $200 some might say that you’re probably better off just buying the carts you want off eBay — but they’re either not as hardcore as you or as well-heeled as you. Hit the source link to see for yourself, but not before checking out the review posted to the DCEmu.uk forums: they put the thing through its paces, and they find that it holds up pretty, pretty well. Video after the break.

Near-final Pandora handheld gets user reviewed, shown playing Super Mario 64

The long (long!) awaited Pandora gaming handheld is inching closer and closer to reality, with all but a few i’s and t’s left to dot and cross (respectively). It’s so close to ready, in fact, that personnel from the device’s production team invited a mere mortal (also known as a forum member) to their homes in order to test out and tinker with a pre-production model. Naturally, his hands-on experience was nothing short of glowing — but really, we wouldn’t expect anything less from a devout forum member who clearly digs even the idea of having a Pandora to hold and snuggle with. There’s no denying the awesomeness that awaits you in the video past the break, though, and if the unit really does handle everything as smoothly as it does Super Mario 64, we’re all in for a treat.

Stable Android 2.1 hacked onto Droid, speeds through those extra home screens

Staying warm out there? Got a cup of hot cocoa in hand? Good, because Mr. Greek35T over at AllDroid has a stable version of the (previously rough-around-the-edges) Android 2.1 ROM ready for all you Droid users to play around with. It’s officially “super fast,” and probably the best thing to happen this weekend outside of that wicked jump you built on the neighborhood sledding hill before you went and watched Avatar with all your old high school friends. Hit up the source link for the full install instructions, and there’s a video of 2.1 in action after the break.

[Thanks, Brandon]

Motorola Milestone firmware coaxed into Droid, multitouch ensues (video!)

If you thought it’d be easy to move code back and forth between two nearly-identical Motorolas running Android… well, you’d apparently be right. Unfortunately, taking clear video of the completed task proves, as ever, to be an insurmountable task. Of course, the Android hacking community has overcome pretty much every other roadblock it’s encountered so far, so it shouldn’t come as any surprise to learn that the Milestone’s firmware has been successfully ported today over to its big, loud American cousin, the Droid, thanks to the work of AllDroid’s Eugene and Barakinflorida who risked their own device for your gain. Our understanding is that the ROM’s cooked in some regard — it’s not bone stock, which makes sense if for no other reason than the fact that the Droid’s got a completely different radio — but fortunately, that all-important multitouch support carries over from the Euro side. We’re hearing direct from AllDroid‘s founder, Brent Fishman, that the ROM should drop in a couple of days. Until then, follow the break for a video of the build in action.

P.S. Don’t worry Droid owners, Google Navigation is still functional with this build.

Update: Better video added after the break! Man, these guys learn fast.

Android 2.1 ported to Droid, no one feigns surprise

You had to know this was coming. That Android 2.1 OS that’s been circulating inside the Google‘s ultra-exclusive Nexus One has hit the internet, and thanks to some clever hackery, you can now theoretically put the update on your Droid handset. We say theoretically, of course, because it’s not quite a perfect rip. DIY instructions were briefly posted on Sholes.info but have since been replaced with a curt advisory to wait for a ROM that properly preserves file system permissions, else risking some serious breaking. The original image file is still available, but don’t say we didn’t warn you. Separately and perhaps unrelated, a video has surfaced of the Nexus One’s boot animation running on Droid — feel free to enjoy that instead, after the break.

[Thanks, Seth and Kyle]

Huge stash of HTC Android codenames found within 2.1 ROM

You know that leaked HTC Sense ROM with Android 2.1 underneath? Well, somebody did some digging and found a wild stack of HTC Android handset codenames buried within. It starts in the realm of the familiar, with mentions of Dragon, Passion, Dream and Hero, but then it starts to get a little wild. Here’s the full list: Bahamas, Bravo, DesireC, Dragon, Dream, Espresso, Halo, HeroCT, HeroC, Hero, Huangshan, Incredible, Legend, Liberty, Memphis, Paradise, PassionC, Passion, Sapphire and Supersonic. Pretty wild, right? There’s no telling what exactly this list implies, other than the fact that Passion and Dragon are indeed on the books, and that HTC’s naming department can really let the superlatives fly, but we’re sure all will be made clear over the next year or two.

HTC Hero gets a leaked Android 2.1 ROM with Sense

We just saw some leaked shots of a Hero running Android 2.1 with HTC Sense a couple days ago, and now it looks like you can get in on the action yourself, thanks to a leaked ROM now up on XDA-developers and AllDroid. Installation appears to be pretty straightforward, but there are some steps involved, so make sure you backup and set aside some time to get things right — and let us know how it all goes in comments!

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Android 2.0 ported to original T-Mobile G1 (video)

Did you hear? Google’s got this little OS called Android that has reached the ripe, mature age of 2-point-Oh. With the giant eclair now sitting on Google’s front lawn and the SDK out in the wilds, what was poor Akira Harada to do with all that code knowing that the Motorola Droid was still days away from shipping? Port it to the original Android device, the T-Mobile G1 / HTC Dream, naturally. It’s a rough port, not even close to being optimized but it should whet your appetites for all those official updates and delicious home-cooked ROMs we expect to be arriving in the hallowed halls of the XDA forums in the days ahead. See it after the break… roll it!

SNES / Sega Genesis USB cartridge adapter now available for pre-order

Looks like our old friend, Matthias — the developer of the USB SNES cart reader — is back on the scene, and this time he’s going commercial. His newest project, Snega2USB, adds Sega Genesis, read and write for battery-backed SNES games, open source firmware, and up to four gamepads to the homebrew fave of classic gaming fanatics world o’er. This is a work-in-progress, but all the pieces are in place to have all orders met on the December, 2009 street date. Pre-orders will be taken until October 31 for $90 in the United States or €75 in Europe. Video after the break.

MOTOBLUR ported to the G1, unreleased CLIQ looks on in envy

It’s unclear exactly how MOTOBLUR software might’ve leaked into the wild, but it’s already been repurposed in the best sort of way into a G1-friendly ROM. Despite its beta status it’s looking relatively snappy, but there are still some missing elements like WiFi and Bluetooth. If anything it’s a testament to how portable and hackable Android is turning out to be so far, and we look forward to the ongoing improvements to Android by diverse manufacturers being disseminated far and wide — though if Motorola had its way, it’d probably at least happen after the relevant device has hit the market. Video is after the break.
