The source is DigiTimes so take this rumor for what you will. Nevertheless, the Taiwanese tattle house is citing sources at local component makers claiming that Foxconn has been notified that it must ship Apple’s “iPad 2” within the next 100 days or as early as the end of February. DigiTimes says that Apple’s plan to start mass production in January had to be pushed because of ongoing firmware testing. Note that this doesn’t mean that the second generation iPad will ship to consumers in February since Apple would be stockpiling units ahead of a global launch in April, according to DigiTimes. The original iPad was announced in January and began US shipments in April before starting its relentless global march in May.

It’s no secret that the Mac App Store is launching soon. Jobs himself said that it would go live “within 90 days” back when the iOS-inspired App Store was announced on October 20th — that’s mid January, if the timeframe is carried to its fullest extent. Now we have AppleTell citing an “inside source” claiming that Apple is trying to launch the Mac App Store before Christmas, specifically targeting December 13th while telling developers to have their software ready by Monday, December 6th. Unfortunately, the Mac App Store also requires an OS update to end users to which MacRumors reminds us that the new OS X 10.6.6 has already been seeded to developers. So yeah, that’s a pretty aggressive timeline if true and could possibly be kicked off by a press event that would also birth Apple’s rumored recurring subscription billing model in support of Rupert Murdoch’s The Daily digital newspaper.

Call it coincidence if you want, but a December 7th press conference to launch the NFC Forum’s new Certification Program likely has something to do with NFC read / write support built into Google’s new Android 2.3 “Gingerbread.” An OS that could be officially unveiled as early as today according to a cheeky blog post by Notion Ink that includes this bullet:

“6th December is another big day for Android and you will find out how fast Notion Ink can work. (Eden is extremely compatible with 2.3).”

Recall how gung-ho Eric Schmidt was on the topic of Near Field Communication while demonstrating it using a still unannounced Nexus S with an embedded NFC chip at the Web 2.0 Summit. That was way back on November 16th when Schmidt promised a Gingerbread release “in like the next few weeks.” According to the NFC Forum, a device must be certified in order to display the official “N-Mark” (pictured) — a symbol for NFC that tells you where to touch in order to initiate NFC services on your device. So, Google… anything you’d like to announce before Tuesday?

Is Sigma announcing an EVIL (as in Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens, not malevolent) camera today? Digital Photography Review forum member Ryan Shine seems to think so, and says it’s “here” in China. As if to prove his point, we’ve got a trio of pictures for the mirrorless shooter. Hey, don’t say we didn’t warn you — and if it doesn’t become official soon, at least there’s pictures to enjoy.

At this point, is there anyone that doesn’t suspect the next iPad will sport a camera? We’ve heard as much, more or less, and now here’s more fodder for the suspicious out there: according to Digitimes, a Taiwan Stock Exchange filing from Largan Precision pegs itself as the “sole lens module supplier” for the impending second-generation iPad, with shipments (of the part or of the tablet, we’re not sure) due out in the first quarter of 2011. It’s worth noting that Largan is the camera parts supplier for the iPhone 4. We haven’t been able to check out the filing ourselves yet, and for its part Largan’s not saying a word, but we’ll let you know what we dig up. You can now return to the part of your iPad 2 dream where it’s rocking a glasses-free 3D ultra-retina display… on both sides… and it’s transparent… and foldable… and not real.

Update: China Times is reporting that Largan got lucky with the exclusive order because Apple’s other iPhone 4 camera supplier GSEO (Genius Electronic Optical) is already running at full capacity. Said publication also casually mentions an “end of Q1” launch for the iPad 2, which makes sense given that the original iPad was launched in April.
