Hasta La Gadget!

Well, the Brits ain’t gonna be happy when they see this in the AM. What we’re looking at here is presumably the Dell Streak’s final US packaging — a far cry from the cardboard boxes that the Englishmen are given (and let’s not forget the silly photoshop error on the top). If the features list is correct, this five-inch Android phone is definitely headed to AT&T’s 850MHz 3G band for now (hang in there, T-Mobile fans). Other than that, the accessories and the phone itself look identical to what we’ve got in London, but we totally wouldn’t mind getting hold of this sexy acrylic box — it’d make a pretty cool cradle, don’t you think? Look what we have here? The Dell Streak sure keeps bringing us more and more surprises — unlike most Android devices that lack the Bluetooth HID profile, here it is paired up with our wireless keyboard and mouse (Apple’s Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse, specifically) without any driver hacks. Streak Smart, who made this discovery, had the same experience as us with its iGo Stowaway keyboard and an unknown mouse — typing was as smooth as cutting butter with a hot knife, but the mouse couldn’t do much due to the lack of pointer and scrolling support. If you insist, the forthcoming Nokia N8 is confirmed to support both devices natively, but it shouldn’t be long before we see a mouse hack for the green bot. P.S. — Since commenter dudeville was asking, here’s how to pair the Apple keyboard with the Streak: type a four-digit PIN on the phone when prompted, then type the same number on the keyboard and press the enter key. Good luck!

Hey England, in need of some retail therapy after an unsatisfying sporting weekend? Dell’s got the goods for you with a rich new selection of cables, plugs, adapters, and cases for your new Streak. It looks like the HDMI dock we’ve been jonesing for has probably become a retail reality, but there’s no way to be sure right now — Dell’s only listing an AV dock without going into the TV connectivity options. The fresh offerings also include the kickstand-equipped wallet case that we found intriguing, spare battery and sync cables, and an international travel kit. Of course, every silver lining has a cloud, which in this case is the pricing: nothing here costs less than £24 ($35) and the car- and TV-enabling docks will set you back a cool £55 ($80) each. Jumbo smartphone, jumbo accessory prices.

iPad holdouts, here’s a real alternative. Dell’s first tablet, the ‘Streak’ aka ‘Mini 5′ is set to go on sale towards the end of next month in the U.S.

The device will be available unlocked through Dell’s website and will cost $500 –the same  price as an entry level iPad. The Streak releases later this week in the U.K. and includes a plan that offers the device free with a mobile phone and data contract.

The Streak will be the first real challenger to the Apple iPad. Since Apple launched the iPad in April, it has sold more than 2 million devices. The demand for tablets has spurred other PC makers including Asus, MSI and HP to introduce tablets. But so far, none have made it to the market.

The Streak’s pricing on par with the iPad is a bold move by Dell considering the device feels somewhere between a smartphone and a tablet.

The Streak has a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen, a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, a 5-megapixel camera, a front facing camera for video chat, 3G and Wi-Fi capability. The device also has a Micro SD slot expandable up to 32 GB. It will run Google’s Android operating system, version 2.0 or higher.

Interestingly, Streak has a SIM card slot so you could use it to make phone calls, as long as you don’t feel awkward holding an electronic slab to your ear. Already AT&T has said it will support the Streak on its network.

Specs wise, the Streak is pretty impressive but the question is will the screen size fly with potential tablet users who have seen the 9.5 inch of gorgeousness that the iPad offers?
