Lenovo’s VAIO P Reserve Edition?

What you’re looking at is a genuine Lenovo device taken by a trusted source from inside of a showroom within IBM’s Beijing headquarters Lenovo’s Beijing office. The details sent to Engadget Chinese are brief so we can’t tell you if it’s a working model or not. Nevertheless, it bears all the hallmarks of a ThinkPad Reserve Edition with just a tad of VAIO P thrown in for taste… so to speak. A few more hurried shots at the break.

Update: Tipster clarified that the pics are from a showroom inside a Lenovo office, not IBM’s Beijing HQ.

Sony’s VAIO P going for €599.95 with T-Mobile Germany data contract

Thinking of picking up a VAIO P for your left rear pocket? Do you call Deutschland home? In need a mobile data plan? If you’ve somehow managed to answer yes (or “ja,” as it were) to all three of those inquiries, T-Mobile Germany has a deal for you. Sony’s WWAN-packin’ VAIO P — which has seen itself subsidized in America on Verizon Wireless — is currently being offered for just €599.95 (VAT included) with a web’n’walk Connect L data plan. For those too uninspired to search, that’s a €400 discount from what it costs to buy outright over there. Tempting, nein?

ASRock launches MultiBook G12 at CeBIT, we go eyes-on

ASRock had a surprisingly large presence at CeBIT this year, so it follows logic that it would bring along some new kit to show off. The MultiBook G12 is its 12-inch offering to the bursting-at-the-seams netbook arena, and while it didn’t look all that different from the units it’s going up against, we suppose a little more competition can’t hurt matters. Details on specs were rather scant, with ASRock only telling us that it will ship with a dual-core Intel CPU, up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM, integrated graphics, a 12.1-inch panel (1,280 x 800), room for a single 2.5-inch SATA drive, gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, audio in / out, a built-in optical drive, four USB 2.0 ports, a 56k modem, VGA output and a fancy-ish design on the lid. The on-hand rep wouldn’t give out a hard price to quote, but he did say that it would be priced “very competitively” when it ships worldwide in the April / May time frame.

Keepin’ it real fake, part CLXXXVI: the Vaino not-so-ultraportable

You know, it was just another busy Wednesday here in the Engadget compound until this guy came across our screens and greatly brightened our day. Bearing the appellation that the Vaio P’s highly fashionable media campaign has thus far only hinted at, the “Vaino” is a 10.2-inch, 1.6GHz Atom-powered ultraportable also-ran that, sadly, will not be making it to these shores any time soon.

ASUS Eee PC 1008HA hands-on

While we initially assumed that ASUS’ Lamborghini VX5 would be its sexiest laptop at CeBIT, now we’re having second thoughts. After taking the wraps off of its downright stunning 10-inch Eee PC 1008HA yesterday, we spotted the bugger sittin’ pretty today at the outfit’s booth. Needless to say, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to snag a few snapshots and share ’em all with you. Much like the S101, the so-called “Shell” has very little “Eee” in its blood. In fact, you’d barely know it was part of the family without that descriptive placard sitting there beside it. ASUS engineered this one for fashionistas who’d like a little PC with their next style accessory, and everything from the glorious paint job to the ultra-clean lines screamed “gorgeous.” Really, take a look below and see for yourself.

Samsung X360 ultraportable dips below $800 mark

Samsung’s ultrathin X360 didn’t quite get the love of some of its competition out of the gate, and has already been preempted by the X460, but the X360 has always had a lovable price tag on its side. Not like this, though. The originally $1900-ish laptop is now going for $750 after rebate on Amazon.com, and that includes 3GB of RAM and Vista Biz to boot. Sure, the 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo SU9300 and Intel integrated graphics never did anyone any favors, but at least this should shut up your non-productive Atom-powered bowling buddies. Or you could wait a month for every other ultraportable on earth to best this pricetag and netbook specs to catch up.

UMID M1 photos definitely surface – the rest we’re not so sure about

We’ve been hearing a bit about UMID’s MID M1 since it was first spotted last month — most of it wildly contradictory. At least we’ve reached a consensus (or so we think) on some of the essentials: weighing in at 0.7 pounds, this guy sports a 4.8-inch (1024 x 600) touchscreen, a 1.1GHz Atom processor, up to 1GB memory, up to 32GB SSD, WiBro / HSDPA / WiMAX / WiFi / Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel camera, mini USB 2.0, and an SD/USIM card. The device is shipping with Linux — which may come as a surprise to whomever ordered its Windows and Internet Explorer keys. CNET states that pre-orders start February 13th for 512MB models, while according to AVING they hit the street on the 20th. This thing will set you back about $500 and is only available in Korea. Maybe. One thing we do know, however — we got more pics for you after the break.

Caption Contest: Sony Vaio P is escorted to Grand Central Station

Sony looks to drum up a little more buzz for its new ultraportable, the Vaio P, at Grand Central Station.

Paul: “There’s a Vaio P configuration for every wig-adorned model in your life.”
Josh T.: “She’s so fine, there’s no telling where the money went. Wait, no. It went to the VAIO P.”
Nilay: “Alias has really gone downhill.”
Joseph: “It’s nice when replicants find honest work.”
Laura: “You have no idea how expensive it is to make something look this cheap.”
Donald: “Ok, now bring out the mimes.”
Chris: “Don’t just stand there, let’s get to it, strike a pose, there’s nothing to it… vogue.”
Tim: “Seven blondes walk into a Sony Style …”
Thomas: “Hey look, those mannequins are just as slow with the VAIO P as Vista!”
Ross: “And like that, Andrew McCarthy and Meshach Taylor knew just what to do to kick-start their careers.”

Hey Sony, where’s the 1.86GHz VAIO P for America?

We already asked this question with “1.6GHz” in place of “1.86GHz,” but seriously Sony, is there some sort of weird embargo on high-speed chips to America that we aren’t aware of? While we Yanks have exactly one CPU option for the newly released VAIO P (that’d be the 1.3GHz Atom), those in Japan can order up the VGN-P90S with a 1.86GHz Atom Z540 processor. Of course, it’s a ¥15,800 ($174) option over the baseline Z520, but an option nonetheless.

[Thanks, Erica]

HP rumored to have new Mini-notes on the way, father still unknown

While the Viviene Tam Edition Mini 1000 sure was pretty, it’s hardly what you’d call “new.” According to undisclosed sources cited by the always questionable DigiTimes, Hewlett-Packard is toying with the idea of bringing a few new infants to market in the Mini-note line. If all goes to plan, a WWAN-enabled Mini-note 2150 (13.3-inch, presumably) will hit the scene in early June. For what it’s worth, a new 11.6-inch model is also mentioned, and as expected, the whole crew (however large) is apt to arrive with Intel Atom’s within. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see, folks.
