Leak sauce: Expansys rides again, three Samsung sets outed?

Seems the good people at Expansys are up to their shenanigans again, but this time we’re seeing a few Samsung sets dribbling out of the leaky tap — mind you, we won’t holler legitimate ’til we hear it from Samsung. The Samsung B2100 — apparently a follow up to the M110 and B2700 — which actually appeared back in October 2008, The Samsung Louve (perhaps a typo of Louvre? It’ll make sense in a minute) and the Samsung Pivot. The Pivot is apparently set to be one of Samsung’s first handsets with Windows Mobile 6.5 and will come loaded with a 5 megapixel camera, QWERTY keypad, LED flash, aGPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, and is touted as coming in a package similar to the Samsung i780. Samsung’s Louve is said to be designed like the TyTN II and shares its sliding and tilting screen — see where the Louvre name fits in? — runs Windows Mobile 6.1, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and shares the i900 Omnia‘s tweak-ready interface. The Expansys “Insider” mentioned filling in the details and posting some pics soon, we’ll get those up if we see them or fill you in when we hear more.

Windows Mobile 6.5 shows up on the Compulab exeda

The more we see Compulab’s sort-of-silly, sort-of-awesome exeda, the more we like it — although the reason we’re smitten today might be because it’s running what appears to be Windows Mobile 6.5, complete with that “honeycomb” app launcher UI. The company says this is an alpha build of the OS, but it does look farther along than those leaked ROMs we’ve been seeing loaded on a few HTC devices, and we’re intrigued by whispers that it takes full advantage of 6.5’s inertial scrolling and other touch enhancements. All that running on a phone which can also boot Android, sports an Ethernet port, and has left- and right-click buttons? We’ll take two. One more pic at the read link.

Olympus E-30 DSLR reviewed: distinctly different, but that’s a good thing

Olympus’ E-30 just recently began to hit store shelves after being announced last November, and the shutterbugs at DigitalCameraReview have taken the liberty of critiquing it for all prospective buyers to see. The cam maintained the quirkiness that tends make an Olympus, well, an Olympus, but when it came down to actual performance, the DSLR didn’t disappoint… much, anyway. It should be noted that it couldn’t hold a candle to the D90 at ISO 3,200, so low-light fiends may want to look elsewhere. That aside, critics were more than pleased with the copious amount of features, the top-shelf focusing speed and the remarkable build quality. If it were priced a few hundies lower, it’d almost be a no-brainer, but with an asking price of around $1,300 at present time, it’ll be hard to sway the eyes of those already focusing on another shooter. Have a look at the read link for a few sample shot comparisons and the full writeup.

Apple’s App Store Rumored to Launch on Monday

This article was written on June 04, 2008 by CyberNet.

iphone app store.pngWith the WWDC conference quickly approaching, rumors are running rampant about not only the next iPhone, but also when the App Store will launch. News.com is reporting that Apple is ready to launch the first app on Monday and so people are drawing the conclusion that the App Store will launch on Monday as well. Originally it was said that the App Store would launch by the end of June, so is Apple just ahead of the game or will it only be announced on Monday and released later?

There’s so much hype surrounding the App Store because this is the way that people will be able to get their hands on all of the third-party applications that have been developed. Ever since the SDK was made available, developers have been hard at work trying to come up with applications that both iPhone and iPod Touch (assuming they pay the fee to get the update) users will want to use. We already know that an AIM client is in the works, as is a mobile version of Spore, along with hundreds of other applications.

As some of you have probably heard rumored before, the new iPhone is expected to have support for GPS technology. News.com makes a good point and says, “the combination of GPS and faster networking speeds should allow for a whole range of location-aware applications to proliferate on the iPhone, as they have on other competing phones.” Oh the possibilities this brings to the table now!

We’ll be following the WWDC keynote scheduled to start at 10:00 A.M. (Pacific) on Monday, June 9th. It should be an interesting day…

Dell Latitude XT2 shows up in a flurry of documentation

Dell’s Latitude XT2 convertible was leaked to us way back in March, and although it missed that planned November ship date, it’s suddenly showed up in an absolute downpour of documentation — great news if you didn’t have any light reading for the weekend. We did a nice heavy skimming of the material for you, and spec-wise, it’s basically just the expected bump up to Montevina: an unspecified ULV Core 2 Duo on an 800MHz bus with integrated Intel GMA X4500 graphics, up to 5GB of DDR3 RAM and the same 12.1-inch multitouch-capable capacitive touchscreen as in the original. (Hellooo Windows 7!) Still no solid word on availability or pricing yet — hopefully we’ll hear more soon.

[Thanks, Johnny]

Keepin’ it real fake, part CLXXVII: HTO HD satisfactorily apes MAX 4G

We tell ya, these KIRFs are getting good. Real good. If we didn’t know any better, we’d assume the HTO HD was a bona fide original, and even though we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this thing is a direct rip of HTC’s MAX 4G, we’re still itching to hold one. In fact, the lucky crew over at Engadget Chinese were able to do just that, and they’ve hosted up a hands-on gallery to prove it. Specs wise, the handset features a 4-inch WVGA display, 5 megapixel camera (with AutoFocus), 8GB of internal storage, an SDHC expansion slot, digital TV tuner, GPS / FM radio modules, Bluetooth, WiFi and a standard 3.5-millimeter headphone jack. Availability is still unknown (big shock there, right?), though it’ll reportedly be priced around 3,000 Chinese yuan, or $439 in greenbacks. In other words, this really might be the most expensive, high quality knockoff we’ve seen to date. Hit the read link and decide for yourself.

Alpine delivers trio of new in-car navigators

If that ’92 Riviera is getting a bit long in the tooth, Alpine’s got a trifecta of ways to simply spruce it up rather than take on an all-too-burdensome new car payment. Both the IVA-W203/P1 and IVA-W505/P1 are double-DIN head units with touchscreen displays (6.5- / 7-inches, respectively), support for iPods / sat ratio / HD Radio / Bluetooth, preloaded NAVTEQ maps of the US and Canada, a foursome of map viewing options and text-to-speech for good measure. For those with single-DIN gaps in the dash, there’s the all new IVA-D106, which offers up a slide-out 7-inch touch panel, 18-watt x 4 amplifier and support for navigation via the optional NVE-P1 drive. All three systems are available as we speak for $1,100, $1,400 and $350 in order of mention.
