This rumor by no means has been confirmed, but we’re telling you about it so that you can keep your eye out for it. If it’s true, it’s an awesome deal. Rumor has it that starting on November 24th at 8 AM and running through November 25th at 11:59 PM, Wal-Mart is having another “secret” sale. They’ll be selling the 80GB PS3 system for $499 (its usual price) but buyers will be able to choose 10 Blu-Ray titles under $30 for free. Add those 10 to the 5 you already get by mail through Sony’s program, and you’ll have 15 Blu-ray movies worth over $400.

The user who reported this deal at Blu-ray.com says he works at a Wal-Mart in the electronics department which leads me to believe he does actually know what he’s talking about . He said stores were just notified on Saturday and that a link for it won’t be available until about Wednesday. According to what he knows, Wal-Mart is stocking up big for this! He says “For those stores that carry BD already, additional titles are being sent in for the sale.  For those that do not have BD in their store (a small minority), product will be sent to each store specifically for this sale.“

Here we thought Wal-Mart was supporting the HD DVD camp after they sold that Toshiba player for under 100 bucks! Turns out they’re not taking sides, and they’re supporting both pretty equally. Anybody considering buying a Playstation 3 to get 15 free movies if this rumor turns out to be true?

Our time with it was all too brief, but we had just a few moments to play with a SIM-less E71x last evening — and yes, we’re pretty sure this blacked-out beauty is going to sell like Canadian bananas when it launches on AT&T in the next few weeks, especially at that enticing $99.99 price point. Anyone who’s handled an original E71 will know exactly what’s going on here: slim, sexy, totally usable keypad, and WiFi. Too bad they weren’t able to cram in a 3.5mm jack on the E71x to complement the addition of S60 3.2, but hey, we’re just going to count our sub-hundred-dollar blessings and move on.

HP has hooked up with the City of Chicago to install a whole bunch of TouchSmart 2-powered kiosks for a period of six months, offering weary travelers an all-too-brief respite from their normal routine as they wander through O’Hare International Airport’s many nooks and crannies. In terms of functionality, we’re not talking about much action here — don’t expect to plop down and catch up on email or video call the fam on Skype — but users can head over to the city’s tourism website, watch a video about the TouchSmart’s capabilities, and browse a whole bunch of sweet (and huge) images of the city courtesy of GigaPan. The high-megapixel imagery suits the system’s multitouch capabilities to a T, but needless to say, the high-gloss display doesn’t get along too well with Terminal 1’s harsh lighting; check out the video after the break to see what we mean.

This is it, folks — our wildest dreams are coming true. Oh, and in case you aren’t savvy on our wildest dreams, we’re talking about having more Aspire Ones to talk about than we can even count. At any rate, the rumored Aspire One D250 and ultrathin Aspire One 531 have both grabbed a landing page over on the outfit’s German portal, which likely means we’re just minutes, hours or centuries away from seeing these slide over to North America. As for the D250, it checks in with a 10.1-inch WSVGA panel, 160GB HDD, 1.6GHz Atom N270 (or an upgraded 1.68GHz N280) processor, Intel’s 945GSE chipset, a multicard reader, up to 2GB of RAM, 0.3 megapixel webcam, Ethernet, WiFi and optional WWAN. The latter machine is a sleek, 1-inch thick (maximum) rig with most of the same specs internally. As for pricing? Try €379 ($502) for the D250 and €399 ($529) for the 531.

The problem: You are a telco, and you give away netbooks in order to lock customers into lengthy 3G internet contracts. The customer does a runner and stops paying his bills. With a cellphone, simply cutting the service from afar would make the handset useless. But with a netbook? The customer still has a fully working computer.

The solution: Fit a kill switch that can disable the netbook from afar. This is exactly what Ericsson has done, and it even has a catchy name for the tech: "We call it a ‘kill pill," Ericsson VP Mats Norin told the Associated Press.

The mobile broadband card, called the F3607gw, has other features, such as low power consumption and wake-on-wireless capability, but its the remote control that is the most interesting. By sending an SMS to the unit, the card speaks to Intel’s ATT (Anti-Theft Technology) inside the machine. This not only locks down the hard drive but the actual computer itself. Even swapping in a new drive wouldn’t wake the computer from its deathly slumber.

Morally, we’re confused on this one. When you sign a contract, you are agreeing to honor an agreement. Break it and the injured party has a right to redress, and to repossess its property. On the other hand, handing life or death control of our equipment over to somebody else is always a chilling thought. Our advice? Buy your own machine and stick a 3G USB dongle in the side. But then, we’re control freaks. In fact, give us the handle of the kill switch so we disable our machines if they are stolen.
