Tron gaming peripherals soothe your nostalgia with calming blue light (video)

We don’t have the foggiest idea whether Tron: Legacy will serve to reboot Disney’s venerable light cycling franchise, but it’s certainly got peripheral vendors in high gear — you’ll be able to hack the ENCOM Digitizing Molecular Laser with a genuine Tron keyboard and mouse or toss virtual light discs with an Tron-themed Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii controller this holiday season. Gaming favorite Razer crafted this $130 laser-etched keyboard with swappable numpad and programmable macros; it will ship alongside a $100, 5600dpi laser mouse in October, and PDP will provide the console controllers for $50 at an unspecified date. We were bummed to hear that the Xbox 360 and PS3 pads are wired, but in retrospect that might be a good thing — by comparison, Razer’s detachable keypad is just begging to be thrown at an MCP-generated foe. See all the new Tron toys lit up in a video after the break. (Caution: video loads automatically.)

Vizio Unveils Routers, Blu-ray Players for the Living Room

Vizio logo.JPGVizio, known mostly for its inexpensive, high-volume HDTVs, has entered the router business.

No, these aren’t the standard data routers (wirelessly) tied to your laptop or other device, but video-optimized wireless 802.11n routers,a dual-band connection which uses both the 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz band to tie your TV to the Internet. Vizio also announced a complementary dual-band Blu-ray player, which also connects to the Internet.

The XWR100 Dual-Band HD Wireless Internet Router prioritizes HD video
and audio to VIA HDTVs and Blu-ray players. Within it are four Ethernet jacks and a USB port for connecting a hard drive. Compatible
with both Mac and PC systems, the XWR100 will be available in Q3 at an MSRP
of $99.99.

Vizio also announced three wirelessly connected Blu-ray players: the VBR210, VBR220 and VBR231. Vizio’s pricing strategy is a bit difficult to understand; you’ll have to wait until July to buy the most expensive model, the VBR231, which will cost $199.99. But that’s just $10 more than the VBR210 and VBR220, whose chief difference is that they operate on the single 2.4-GHz band shared with other 802.11b/g devices, while the VBR231 uses both the 2.4- and the relatively unobstructed 5-GHz band. All three deliver up to 7.1 channels of digital audio output
over HDMI, with support for Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS
HD audio formats.

Skullcandy 50/50 earphones control your iPhone

Windows 7 hits 150 million licenses: that’s seven copies a second

If Steve Ballmer’s still pumped eight months later, there’s a good reason — Windows 7 has reportedly sold its 150 millionth copy, just two months after crossing the 100 million mark. If you run the numbers — and we have — that translates to roughly seven licenses sold per second since launch, a very convenient number for Microsoft to tout in their marketing communications from here on out. Perhaps execs can celebrate with a nice Windows 7 Whopper, topped with a fresh .dll pickle.

Some iPhone 4 owners report discolored screens

Yellow spots or discolored screens on the new iPhone 4 are being reported before the device is officially available in stores. pOriginally posted at a href=”http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20008666-260.html” class=”origPostedBlog”Circuit Breaker/a/p

Poll: is your iPhone 4 retina display seeing yellow spots? (update: losing bars in the hand?)

Out, damned spot! out, I say! One; two: why, then, ’tis time to do ‘t. Hell is murky! Fie, my lord, fie! Reports are coming in from some of those lucky early iPhone 4 users that there may exist a not-so-lucky yellow coloration in the bottom right corner of the IPS LCD. We haven’t seen this ourselves on any new iPhones, but maybe you’ve had different experiences. Tell us, is your iPhone 4 seeing yellow?

Update: As a number of readers have pointed out, there seems to be an issue with how many bars are displayed on screen — perhaps even a correlation to how it’s being held in the hand. According to Walt Mossberg’s review, Apple has acknowledged the issue as something that has to do with “the way the bars are presented, not the actual ability to make a call,” and that a fix is forthcoming. Indeed, as noted in our review, we’ve had “far, far fewer dropped calls than we experienced on our 3GS.” We’re not seeing very many videos showing more dropped call, but the bar change is interesting. Still, to be sure, we’re adding another poll.

Update 2: Our iPhone 4 purchased in Japan has a pale yellow bar along then entire bottom edge. Picture after the break.

Samsung Behold II finally gets Android 1.6 update

Yes, yes, we know you’d rather get Eclair or Froyo — but sometimes you’ve got to be happy with what you’ve got, and this is one of those times. As far as we can tell, Samsung hasn’t budged on its commitment to sunset the Behold II’s upgrade path with Donut, but at least 1.6 is finally trickling into the hands of owners this week via a rolling over-the-air update that should wrap up on the 25th. There are a few bug fixes in the mix, too — so unless you’ve got a rooted Behold II running 2.2 already, you probably want in on this action. Or… you know, dump this inadequately-supported piece for something running 2.1 out of the box.

Single-serving wine glasses hopefully U.S.-bound

I may be a wine snob, but I’m a wine snob on the go, so I want these sooner rather than later.
