2011 Hyundai Equus user manual to be pre-loaded on a custom iPad

We thought of theiPad as soon as we first heard the 2011 Hyundai Equus would come with its user manual preloaded on a “multimedia tablet” instead of being printed out, and it looks like our hunch was correct: our friends at Autoblog have confirmed that Hyundai will be shipping a 16GB WiFi iPad with every Equus. The iPad will be packaged in a bespoke leather case with an embossed logo, suede interior, and even kickstand — which’ll come in quite handy as the user manual comes complete with video tutorials for many of the car’s functions. Updates to the software will happen through iTunes, and the iPad sounds pretty stock otherwise, so that’s a nice little perk. Just don’t use it while you’re driving, okay?

Belkin Conserve lineup will make you feel even worse about all the electricity you’re wasting

Belkin‘s just made four new Conserve products available for pre-order. The Conserve Insight tracks your actual devices’ electrical usage and tells you how much they cost you on a yearly basis. It also calculates CO2 emissions produced by usage of a given device on either a monthly or yearly basis. The Conserve Smart AV is a greener power strip with five regular outlets and one green outlet for your television, which can auto-detect the power state of your teevee and turn off your peripherals. The conserve Valet is a four device capacity charging station which turns off automatically once devices are finished juicing up. Finally, the Conserve Socket is plugged into your wall outlet and boasts a timer for automatic power offs. The Conserve products will all ship mid-July, and they range in price from $9.99 to $39.99. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480M reviewed: fastest mobile GPU to date

It’s one thing to have a product called the world’s fastest on paper, but it’s another thing entirely to have the benchmarks confirm it. NVIDIA‘s GeForce GTX 480M has been swooned over for months now, but it just recently hit the hardcore review sites in a big way. Frankly, there’s not a whole lot to say about the thing at this point: it’s simply the fastest mobile GPU to date, with Hot Hardware finding it to be “significantly faster in nearly all gaming benchmarks,” with just one title showing the Mobility Radeon HD 5870 as the champ by only a few frames. If you’ve been searching for the fastest mobile GPU in town, you’re wasting your time looking any harder; ‘course, all of that power consumes an insane level of energy, so true road warriors will certainly want to look elsewhere. Critics pointed out that energy consumption and excess heat were real issues, though both of those are easily overlooked when you’re able to take a beastly laptop to a LAN party rather than your desktop. Give those links below a visit if you still need proof.

Samsung, ATT Announce Galaxy S Captivate

AT&T_Captivate_front1.jpgIt looks like AT&T is finally getting a high-powered Android phone. Just a few days after announcing the midrange HTC Aria, AT&T and Samsung are announcing the Captivate, a gigahertz-class Android 2.1 phone with high-end performance and features. The Captivate is part of the Galaxy S line, which Samsung said they wanted to bring to “all” US carriers when we first got our hands on it back in March.

The Captivate runs a Samsung Hummingbird processor, which should be comparable to the Qualcomm Snapdragons and Apple A4s we see in other top-of-the-line smartphones. It has a Super AMOLED screen, which as we saw in February, is brighter and 80% less reflective than the standard AMOLED seen on phones like the HTC Incredible and Google Nexus One.
Like the new Apple iPhone 4, the Captivate packs a 5-megapixel camera, accelerometer and gyroscope for 3D motion sensing. There’s 16 GB of built-in storage, HD video recording and surround sound. And Samsung promises a music and video store called “Media Hub” which will have “a full library of video and literary content,” according to a Samsung press release. At the original Galaxy S line announcement, Samsung said that Paramount and Hearst were on board for providing content for their new line of phones.
For serious spec geeks, Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 3.0 are both on board, providing high-speed data transfers. Cellular data is provided by HSPA 7.2, which is as fast as AT&T’s network goes right now anyway.
The Captivate will come out “in the coming months,” according to the press release. The companies didn’t announce a price.

Dropcam Echo Acts as Your Eyes and Ears When Youre Away

Dropcam iPhone.jpg
Whether you’re monitoring your office after hours, checking in on your pets while you’re on vacation or just want to make sure that your valuables are safe from thieves, the new Dropcam Echo ($279) may be exactly what you’re looking for.
The successor to the original video-only Dropcam ($199), the Dropcam Echo promises to be easy to set up and use. It measures just 3.7″ x 2.3″ x 1.3″ and weighs 3.3 ounces.
If you already have a Wi-Fi b/g network in the location you wish to monitor, all you have to do is plug in the Dropcam Echo and register for an account on the Dropcam web site.
You can then view footage in any compatible web browser or use the free iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad application which is available on the Apple App Store. You also have the option to invite others to view the live feed via a secure link; they will need to set up their own free Dropcam account.
The company offers a choice of three monitoring plans for their Dropcam. The Basic plan is free, but only includes free real-time live monitoring, without any recording or alert options.
The Plus plan ($8.95 monthly) allows users to record up to one week of video footage in addition to live viewing, and users are able to download screenshots or video clips from ten seconds to fifteen minutes in length.
The Pro plan ($24.95 monthly) offers up to 30 days of online recording. Both the Plus and Pro plans also offer an alert service that sends email or text messages alerts when motion is detected by the camera.

GelaSkins Partners with College Humor and BustedTees

FindersKeepers.jpg

College Humor and BustedTees have been making you laugh for years. Now they’ll protect your valuable technology, as well.  GelaSkins, which makes protective cases for a long list of tech gadgets, has just announced a partnership with College Humor and BustedTees.

So far, the site is offering 17 of BustedTees’ t-shirt designs, now available as case designs. Prices range from $14.95 for an iPhone case to $29.95 for an iPad or laptop case.

So far there are no designs representing College Humor’s original video characters, and I hope that’ll change soon. I’d love an iPad case featuring Ace and Jocelyn, astronaut accountants from outer space.
