Free concert in LA this weekend, bring your Apple II

Following the only logical path one can take after building a working 15x scale Atari joystick, Jason Torchinsky is pulling together all the Apple IIs that can be had for a quick concert. Those not already entranced by chiptunes will want to give LA neighborhood art space Machine Project a wide berth on Saturday, where participants will use a 16 step sequencer to get something like music out of the system’s timer circuit. Those interested in checking it out can check the source link for details, but if you actually have an Apple II laying around (and aren’t in the middle of a game of Oregon Trail, that’s serious business) you’ll want to show up around 6 p.m. to get things arranged.

Windows Live Messenger Patches Start Appearing

Windows Live Messenger Patches Start Appearing

Windows Live Messenger was just released and millions and millions of users are awaiting the release of Messenger Plus! Live by Patchou but there are some patches already out there that will tide you over until he releases it to the public. Two of the most popular patches that you will find are A-Patch and the Mess.be Patch.

A-Patch has 70 features that it can tweak in the Windows Live Messenger that was just released yesterday. Some of the most popular features it has is removing the advertisement banner, remove buttons that you never use, and it can allow you to run multiple instances of Windows Live Messenger.

The Mess.be Patch also has similar features to A-Patch. It can remove the advertisement as well but one unique feature is that it can make the dashboard translucent (pictured in the screenshot above). You can also load and save all of your settings so that you can configure other computers with the same settings in just a few clicks.

I think that these patches are going to be really popular and downloaded countless times but true craziness will develop when Messenger Plus! Live is released.

15 sexy printers (yes, printers)

When you think of printers, you don’t usually think sexy tech gadget. Well, here are 15 models that might help change your mind about that.

AnaPad, A Wooden iPad for Kids

Sadly, the wonderful anaPad is likely to be nixed by Apple’s legal dogs

I let other people’s babies play with my iPad, usually to shut the whining brats up when they start to cry (again). The soothing tones and gently flashing pulses of SoundPrism usually do the trick, but inevitably these impatient monsters start to stab at the screen, harder and harder until I’m worried about them smashing the glass with their stubby, undeveloped fingers.

So, seeing as kids are pretty easily amused, I’m thinking of taking the anaPad with me whenever I can’t get out of visiting my over-breeding friends. The iPad-shaped toy is a magnetic whiteboard set into a plywood frame. Down at the bottom is a slot for a dry-erase marker, and on the screen are six magnetic “icons” which can be stuck, unstuck and slid around.

The AnaPad comes from Etsy makers twigcreative, and costs just $30 (or a lot less than a replacement iPad screen). Because of those icons, don’t give it to any child under three years unless you’re happy to see them choke. Also because of those icons, which so closely mimic Apple’s own as to be veritable lawyer bait, I advise ordering soon.

Available now.

Archos unveils bare-bones Arnova 7 Android tablet, priced at $99

We caught a brief glimpse of Archos’ new Arnova 7 tablet when it hit the FCC last week and now, we have a few more details on the company’s affordable Android-based slate. Though there’s no information on its RAM or processing capacity, the latest addition to the Arnova clan boasts a seven-inch, resistive touchscreen LCD with 800×480 resolution, supports 720p HD playback, and offers 4GB of flash memory. Running on Froyo, this WiFi-enabled slab will give you access to the AppsLib store, rather than the Android Market, and won’t come with any of the front- or rear-facing cameras you’d expect from higher-end products. But, then again, it’s pretty hard to argue with any tablet priced at just $99. No word yet on when the Arnova 7 will start shipping, but we’ll let you know as soon as we find out.
