Siri Takes A Humorous Swing At Google Glass

Siri Takes A Humorous Swing At Google Glass

Apple’s virtual personal assistant, Siri, now takes a rather humorous swing at Google Glass. Saying “Okay Glass” to Siri will make the virtual assistant return four humorous responses at the expense of Google Glass. “Okay Glass” is actually the phrase that is used to invoke Google Glass, the origins of this phrase are explained in detail here.

The four responses are as follows: “Stop trying to strap me to your forehead. It won’t work,” “I think that Glass is half empty,” “I’m not Glass. And I’m just fine with that” and “Glass? I think you’ve got the wrong assistant.” Its unclear if Apple plans on adding more phrases to the list, these four seem to suffice though. Apple naturally won’t be too excited about Glass. Apple CEO Tim Cook said earlier this year that he doesn’t believe Google Glass will turn out to be a mass-market item. According to him, the wrist is a more natural place for wearable gadgets. There have already been a lot of rumors about Apple working on its own wearable gadget, the iWatch as it is commonly known. Nevertheless, Google has stirred up a lot of hype for Glass but we’ll only know how it performs in the market once the retail version goes on sale next year. [Image via AppleInsider]

Nokia Windows RT tablet may resemble a Lumia, carry an iPad-like price

Nokia Windows RT tablet reportedly nicknamed Sirius, resembles a Lumia

Nokia’s rumored Windows RT tablet is supposedly nearing launch, and The Verge claims to have more details of the slate beyond those tidbits that surfaced at Digi-Wo last month. Nicknamed Sirius, the finished design is believed to resemble a Lumia phone and weigh significantly less than the current iPad. Despite packing a Snapdragon 800, an outdoor-ready 1080p screen and LTE, the tablet would last a healthy 10 hours on battery. It would also include both 6-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, and Nokia may complement the previously mentioned 32GB of storage with a microSD card slot. Pricing would be competitive with the iPad, according to tipsters. While there’s no way to verify the new rumors, the Sirius may launch at a September 26th event; if it’s real, we’ll find out soon enough.

HomeSync Appears On Samsung’s Website Alongside Its User Manual

HomeSync Appears On Samsungs Website Alongside Its User Manual

Back at the Mobile World Congress 2013, which took place in February, Samsung announced the HomeSync. Its a set-top box powered by Android Jelly Bean OS. Basically, HomeSync is a home media server with a 1TB hard drive. It has complete access to Google Play Store when connected to the internet either over Wi-Fi or through Ethernet. Samsung didn’t announce pricing and availability details back then. In May, it released a walkthrough video for HomeSync, but again didn’t say anything about the release. The set-top box has now appeared on Samsung’s website and a PDF of its user manual has appeared on the company’s website as well.

Unfortunately, Samsung still hasn’t disclosed how much the HomeSync costs and when we’ll be able to pick one up. Powering the HomeSync is a 1.7Ghz dualcore processor aided by 1GB of RAM, 8GB of flash memory and support for every standard audio and video codec. USB 3.0, optical-out audio and 1080p HDMI with HDCP support is also built in. Samsung released the walkthrough video for the HomeSync set-top box a couple of months ago, the video does a god job of educating prospective customers about this device. Here’s to hoping that they now reveal pricing and availability information soon.

Siri Gets Sassy If You Ask Her About Google Glass

Everybody knows that Siri gets silly from time to time and starts cracking jokes. Most of them are not funny (e.g. "Two iPhones walk into a bar… I forget the rest.") But when Siri starts trash-talking Apple’s competitors, things start to get interesting.

Apple Rumored To Release OS X 10.8.5 Update Today

Apple Rumored To Release OS X 10.8.5 Update Today

Its no secret that Apple is going to release a new OS X update soon, we just don’t know exactly when it intends to do that. For over a couple of months now the OS X 10.8.5 update has been in beta phase, meaning that it was only rolled out to registered developers. As of now, Apple has seeded seven betas of the upcoming update, the latest coming out on July 31st. Rumor has it that the company has started shipping a pre-release build to select partners, which might mean that the public release of OS X 10.8.5 will take place today.

The folks at AppleInsider claim to have heard from “people familiar with the software” that the pre-release version carries build number “12F35.” It is said that this update is recommended for all Mountain Lion users. Since its only an incremental update, there aren’t any new features in OS X 10.8.5. However, it is said to fix an issue that may prevent Mail from displaying messages, improve AFP file transfer performance over 802.11ac Wi-Fi, improve Xsan reliability and resolve an issue that might prevent a screensaver from starting automatically. The pre-release build is apparently 286MB in size, partners are reportedly supplied the build hours before Apple is to release the update for the public. If this is indeed the case, Apple may very well push out OS X 10.8.5 later today. We’ll keep an eye out and will let you know if that happens.
