Canon appeals to internet socialites with PowerShot N Facebook camera

Canon appeals to internet socialites with PowerShot N Facebook pointandshoot

Facebook fanatics have a smartphone to call their own, and now they have a camera, too. Canon’s PowerShot N, which first made its debut at CES, just scored a few (relatively minor) tweaks. The point-and-shoot features an unusual square design, so it can be rotated and held in a variety of orientations. There’s a 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC 5 processor, 28-224mm f/3.0-5.9 8x optical zoom lens and a 2.8-inch capacitive-touch tilting LCD, just as you’ll find on the original. In fact, the Facebook branding represents the only significant change here, including a dedicated button on the side to upload images to the site (via built-in WiFi) and a new Facebook upload option in the system menu. It’s hardly worth “upgrading” from the original N, but if Facebook is your life, get ready to hand over 300 bucks for this Canon online store exclusive beginning next month.

Canon intros PowerShot G16, S120, SX170 IS, SX510 HS point-and-shoot cameras

Canon intros PowerShot G16, S120, SX170 IS, SX510 HS cameras

Canon’s got a handful of incremental updates to detail today, including a selection of PowerShot point-and-shoots. The G16 is the priciest of the bunch, ringing in at $550. This model, which is set to ship in October, replaces last year’s G15, and includes a 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC 6 processor, 5x 28-140mm f/1.8-2.8 optical zoom lens and 1080/60p video capture. Next up is the S120, retailing for $450, also in October. This pocketable S110 replacement includes a 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC 6 processor, 5x 24-120mm f/1.8-5.7 optical zoom lens and 1080/60p video capture. The SX510 HS is the cheapest of this premium bunch, with a $250 MSRP. This superzoom, expected in September, packs a 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC 4 processor, a 30x 24-720mm f/3.4-5.8 optical zoom lens and 1080p video.

The G15, S120 and SX510 HS all include built-in WiFi, letting you pair the camera with Canon’s Image Gateway Android or iOS app to upload shots to a variety of social networking sites, including Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. The final model, the PowerShot SX170 IS, does not include WiFi. It’s quite a bit cheaper at $180, however, and should ship in September. This entry-level cam includes a 16-megapixel sensor, DIGIC 4 processor, a 16x 28-448mm f/3.5-5.9 image-stabilized lens and 720p video. That last flavor replaced the SX160 IS, which launched last year as well. The SX170 swaps a rechargeable battery pack for its predecessor’s AAs, resulting in a thinner profile. Catch a bit more on all four models in the press release after the break.%Gallery-slideshow73255%

Google Keep App Updated In this day and age, we tend to be more busy than ever before, with tons of tasks to keep up to, and it can be all too easy to forget about what lies ahead when our days are jam-packed with appointments left and right. Of course, having an organizer would go a long way in helping us figure things out, to make sure that we do not miss an appointment somewhere along the day. Good thing there is Google Keep, an app that helps remind you of important tasks as well as errands at just the right time and place.

Windows Phone Is Number 2 Mobile OS In Latin America, Says IDC

Windows Phone Is Number 2 Mobile OS In Latin America, Says IDCMicrosoft’s Windows Phone mobile operating system might not have made quite the splash in the US market as much as Microsoft would have liked it to, as it remains far behind Android and iOS as the OS of choice among mobile devices. Well, things are looking rather rosy in different parts of the world, and just down south of the US, the entire are that we know of as Latin America boasts Windows Phone as the second most widely used mobile OS, at least according to the folks at IDC. in all of Latin America.

According to Microsoft’s press release, the second quarter of 2013 saw an overall 12% percent growth in Latin America when it comes to Windows Phone. It is also first runner up in Mexico, Peru, and Colombia. The percentage of Colombian Windows Phone owners happens to be 25.6% among smartphone users there, while other Latin American countries such as Argentina, Chile and Brazil, see Windows Phone sitting comfortably in third place. All of those rather impressive positions could be attributed to the affordable Nokia Lumia 520 as well as the higher end Lumia 920. Do you think that Windows Phone would see a similar explosive growth rate in other developing countries, or do you think it is a Latin America thing only? [Press Release]

Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow 2 Gameplay Trailer

Dracula is the undead icon that simply refuses to stay dead, and I suppose part of the reason he has returned in different ways over the past years would be due to the Twilight franchise that butchered his manly image – sparkling vampires that break apart like porcelain? The ability to walk in sunlight, as well as being able to impregnate a human? That’s simply ludicrous! Here’s a throwback to the more macho days of a vampire, as you can check out the gameplay trailer of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 above and see just how much more scary things are in the presence of a vampire and his lair.

Not only that, there is also a fight depicted against a yet unseen statue boss, not to mention a launch date of February 25, 2014. That might not be the original winter 2013 launch period as intended, but still, a couple of months down the road after the year comes to an end is still not too long to wait. We cannot wait to see how the trilogy of Dracula’s story concludes. Just to make sure that we are on the same page, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will roll out on a slew of platforms – the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

    Dead Rising 3 Gameplay Trailer

We have seen a trailer of Dead Rising 3 just a couple of days ago, and here we are with the gameplay trailer for Dead Rising 3, in all of its CGI glory, where you will also be introduced to your fair share of crazy looking death vehicles. I am quite sure that when you watched the Dead Rising 3 cinematic trailer which was depicted recently as mentioned above, chances are you would be wondering whether Capcom might want to steer the title towards a more mature and serious direction. The latest cinematic trailer as shown in the video above happens to do away with such seriousness – considering how you are able to dress up like Evel Knieval with boxing gloves that are connected to a special air blower wannabe so that it can deliver additional projection.

Dumb as ever, you say. Perhaps, but it might just be the zany method of the game that makes people keep on coming back. Dark humor can be quite a niche market, but at least it is still humorous and not so dark and brooding like an actual zombie apocalypse, no? It remains to be seen just how Dead Rising 3 will pan out as a game, but we will just have to wait for a few more months before the title is released.

    Homeshell Flat Pack Home

The kings of flat packs – Ikea, will certainly be more than proud with the Homeshell, an abode that was designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP). Just what is Homeshell all about? It so happens to be an innovative, low-cost building that has been located in the courtyard of the Royal Academy in London, where it has been constructed using Insulshell, which happens to be a flexible and highly energy efficient building system that could prove to be a solution to the UK’s existing housing crisis (for the middle class and poor, of course).

This particular installation is a three and a half story building that will be delivered as flat-pack panels on a truck, taking a mere 24 hours to assemble on-site, now how about that? You can check out a time-lapse film of the construction and be impressed with how this particular innovative building system will be able to come together in such a short amount of time. Once its time on display at the Royal Academy is over, it will be dismantled before being rebuilt on a site in Mitcham, where it will have a more permanent residence there, being outfitted with all the necessary furnishings so that it can function as a showhouse for those who are interested.
