These Hand-Painted Helmets Make Your Head a Work of Art

These Hand-Painted Helmets Make Your Head a Work of Art

Bikes have a long history as beautiful specimens for human transport—fun to ride and damn good looking, too. Helmets, however? They’ll protect your skull from being smashed on the pavement, but are pretty widely reviled from a fashion standpoint. People often don’t wear ‘em because, well… they just don’t look cool. So, question: would you be more inclined to be street safe if your helmet was a one-off work of art?

GTA 5 For Xbox 360 Sold Out At Amazon

GTA 5 For Xbox 360 Sold Out At AmazonThe Xbox 360 might have been around for a fair number of years already, but does this mean it has already run out of top tier games for the masses to enjoy? While many folks are looking forward to the new next generation consoles (Xbox One and Sony PS4), current generation consoles still pack quite a punch and the ability to draw top titles such as Grand Theft Auto 5, or GTA 5 for short. In fact, GTA 4 saw a resurgence in sales before GTA 5 rolls out officially, and here we are with word from Amazon UK that they have run out of GTA 5 for Xbox 360 stock.

According to Amazon UK, “due to high demand, orders placed for Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360) from September 13 will be shipped as soon as we receive inventory”. Of course, those of you who are rocking to the Sony PS3 will still be able to place a pre-order for launch day delivers. This might be an early indicator as to which hardware platform the game will be more popular on, but it would not really matter for the developers themselves, right? After all, it is money rolling in both pockets anyways. Have you already placed your pre-order for GTA 5?

Target will offer at least $200 for your iPhone 5

    (Credit: CNET)

iPhone 5 owners looking to trade in their phone can get at least $200 from Target.

The retailer announced Friday that the current trade-in promotion applies to older iPhones as well. An iPhone 4S trade-in could net you at least $125, while the iPhone 4 could score you $75. The actual trade-in price naturally depends on the phone’s condition and storage capacity.

The money comes as store credit that consumers can use to buy one of the new iPhone models or almost any product at a local Target store or on Target’s Web site. Customers who own a Target REDcard can also trim 5 percent off the cost of a new iPhone or other smartphone.

However, traders can score better deals by going elsewhere.

Target works with NextWorth on its trade-in program. Directly using NextWorth typically earns you more money. For example, a 16GB iPhone 5 in working condition is worth at least $300 via NextWorth.

Walmart is also offering up to $300 in the form of store credit for a working iPhone 5.

Web Development RPG Skill Tree: Dungeons & Developers

If you love playing RPGs, perhaps you’ve imagined what skills and prerequisites you’d need to have in the real world to reach your desired job or level of success. The folks at web development agency 352 Media thought of doing the same thing to their profession and created Dungeons & Developers, an RPG-style skill tree that outlines what you need to learn to become a master web developer.

    dungeons and developers

As with a typical RPG, each icon in the tree represents a skill. The skills involve learning about things like CSS, AJAX & APIs and Advanced DB Management. When you learn a skill, your character gains stats and unlocks more advanced skills. But 352 Media took their geeky project a step further and made it possible so you could actually use the skill tree to help you learn about web development and keep track of your progress while you’re learning. Each skill contains a link to an educational resource such as a tutorial. Your skill tree is tied to a unique URL, so you can bookmark it to save your progress, then check back to see if you’re bound to level up.

    dungeons and developers 2

Once you’ve learned a skill, simply left click its icon to add a point into it. Right-click on a learned skill to subtract a point. You cheater. Speaking of cheating, Dungeons & Developers also has a god mode. 352 Media says you can unlock 100% completion if you “go old school.”

    dungeons and developers 3

Head to Dungeons & Developers to check out the skill tree. As a fan of RPGs I can’t help but point out that the tree is misleading. It’s missing a few arrows for the other prerequisites needed to unlock the ultimate skill. It’s no biggie though, just know that all of the skills at the second to the last row need to be learned before you can unlock Web Development Mastery. The earliest you can do that is at level 26, so get grinding!

Help us decide who deserves free tickets to Expand NY

Last week, we flipped the switch on our #ExpandThrowback contest from the submission phase to the voting phase, meaning the winners of our contest are in your capable hands. What is this contest about again, you ask? Simply put, we wanted to see what old technology our readers could dig up in their garages, attics, closets, glove compartments, et cetera, thus paying homage to the old as we prepare to celebrate the new at this November’s Expand NY event. One lucky winner gets an all-expense paid trip to the event and four runner-ups get a $250 gift card to update their old technology.*

What are some of the old gizmos found in the top 20? Here’s the list, complete with WikiLinks (not WikiLeaks) to fill your thirst for knowledge on tech before we could :

We’ll let you hop on over to the contest and vote for your favorite, and make sure to do so by September 19th. Then, on the 20th, we’ll announce the winners. You also can see the whole smattering of #ExpandThrowback submissions that didn’t make it to the final round here.
