Panono throwable panoramic ball camera surpasses 100-megapixels mark

panono-cam

Just how creative can we get? Apparently, the limits for creativity has yet to be reached, as new kinds of art are being churned out every single day. Having said that, the Panono throwable panoramic ball camera has generated its fair share of interest ever since the idea of it was introduced to the masses, and the team behind the Panono is currently working on its final development. Their efforts have not been in vain at all, since they ended up procuring camera modules with better optics and higher resolution which will be able to boost the camera from 72 to 108 megapixels, giving the Panono the proud distinction of being the first consumer camera to exceed 100 megapixels.

Here is a little bit of background history for those who want to know what the Panono is all about. It comes in the size of a grapefruit, and is obviously ball-shaped, while sporting three dozen (that’s a whopping 36!) camera modules that have been embedded all around it. These camera modules will be able to fire away simultaneously when it is thrown into the air, allowing it to capture everything in every direction in 360° X 360°, delivering fully spherical panoramic images.

With the inclusion of upgraded optics and higher resolution, consumers can now zoom in to see even greater detail when they view their Panono panoramic images on their computer or mobile devices. Checking out a panorama on a mobile device is a snap, thanks to the free Panono App which will offer a fully immersive experience as you will be able to move the images through the simple act of tilting the device up or down, and left or right, as though you were inside the image itself. Those who are interested can pick up the Panono over at their Indiegogo project page.

Panasonic “Cut Out the Darkness” project launched

panasonic-darknessPanasonic, the Japanese giant that has done its bit to make sure that darkness is eradicated in different parts of the poorest regions of the world, by launching the “Cut Out the Darkness” project which will see the delivery of solar lanterns and shades which are based on designs that have been contributed by participants to homes and schools in the non-electrified regions. In fact, Panasonic is right now on the lookout for folks worldwide to be involved in this very project, all the while hoping to make the participants aware of the various issues in these regions that do not have the luxury of electricity.

At the moment, around 1.32 billion people worldwide still do not have access to electricity, which is something that many of us take for granted, actually. In fact, many homes in the regions still fall back on kerosene lamps for lighting purposes, and it goes without saying that such kerosene lamps do pose as a serious fire and health threat. Being unable to obtain a sufficient amount of light, it also further restricts them to what they can do. With less or no electric lighting at all, it ends up affecting the health and education sectors, as well as the economy.

Solar lanterns could be the solution here, as users can use these to juice up electricity during the daytime, saving all of that power in the secondary battery, which will then be able to be called upon at night, which will do its bit to solve social issues in non-electrified regions while making sure that fire and health risks are curbed, not to mention to reduce the emission of CO2 by kerosene lamps.

If you want to participate in the “Cut Out the Darkness” project, its website will come with its own application which lets you design a cutout while checking out a virtual shade image on-screen as you work on the design. After the design is complete, submit it online and visitors will vote on how popular it is. The top 100 popular designs will be chosen and manufactured before being sent over to those far flung places that badly need such a basic infrastructure.

RocketDock: Free Mac-Like Dock For Windows

This article was written on August 23, 2006 by CyberNet.

RocketDock - Mac Dock for Windows A long time ago I used to use ObjectDock which gave me that Mac-like dock to place all of my shortcuts. I must have decided not to install the software again after reformatting my computer at some point. I haven’t really missed it too much but after seeing RocketDock I decided to give this a try.

I have to admit that the only reason I was trying RocketDock was because they offer it for free as compared to the ObjectDock which will run you nearly $20! It looked pretty nice and after using it for a day I will definitely keep this installed!

I took a screenshot to the right after I had it installed and got it running. I did change from the default theme to the “Vista Black” one because I really like the transparency effect. I just have the dock autohide itself on the side of the screen and when I need a shortcut I can have it pop back out.

Maybe you are an ObjectDock user and you have that perfect skin that you like. No problem! RocketDock lets you use skins from MobyDock, ObjectDock, RK Launcher, and Y’z Dock. You probably won’t have to go hunt for one because RocketDock already includes about 20-30 skins.

Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention that it even does that little “bouncy” animation that the Mac’s do. You know, the one when you click on the shortcut and the icon will bounce up and down. That may not be necessary but it is awfully cool. 😀

Google Shoots For More Referrals

Google continues to push consumers to use their products by offering web site owners more money for referrals. You can now earn $2 for getting a user to install Google Pack or $1 for getting a user to install Google Picasa.

If you haven’t heard about the Google Pack before then you may find it quite interesting. The package includes some of Google’s very own software like Google Talk and Google Earth, but also includes software from other sources. Some of this software is Norton Antivirus (with a six-month subscription) and Ad-Aware.

Google Picasa is Google’s photo editing software that is pretty nice to do some quick touch-ups. Of course, it doesn’t compete with Photoshop but how can you complain when it is free?
